Two main areas stood out: 1) Proactive Education: I wish there had been more dialogue regarding treatment options (e.g., fully medicated vs. modified cycles) earlier in the process so I could better advocate for my preferences. 2) Financial Communication: The billing and insurance team often provided last-minute cost updates (sometimes the night before or morning of an appointment). I frequently had to act as a liaison between my insurance provider and the clinic to clear up confusion. I am writing to share my disappointing experience with Dr. Purcell. My husband and I consulted her to help conceive our second child. Despite my history of no prior fertility issues, Dr. Purcell immediately recommended IVF rather than investigating why we were struggling to conceive naturally. Throughout the process, she remained overly positive, never indicating any potential hurdles. However, when the IVF failed, her only explanation was 'I don't know,' eventually defaulting to my age as a catch-all excuse. I have since become pregnant naturally without any medical intervention. This proves that a proper diagnostic approach--rather than a direct-to-IVF path--was what I actually needed. This review is long long long overdue! Dr Purcell and her team were and are absolutely. We started with CARE after using a different dr around 5 years into our fertility journey. Dr Purcell focused on figuring out my body and was the first Dr that helped us really understand and make the leap to try IVF. She was also the only one that helped us get pregnant. It took some tweaking for us to get our miracle baby, but we got her in 2019! The entire staff from the administration, back office, behind the scene staff, nurses, anesthesiologists, other drs were the best and always made us feel supported and heard. However, we ended up deciding to switch to different clinic, we still think C.A.R.E. for the Bay Area is a good IVF clinic for most of people if they want to pursue their fertility journey. read more

I came here about 6 years ago for two rounds of IUI and a full round of IVF without any success. My whole life I have had regular periods and no major pain on my cycles so there were no red flags. After receiving treatment here and still not being able to get pregnant it didn't make any sense to me. After about 1.5 years at this office, we were left with no answers. I called the office and asked for the next steps and they said you have to pay to speak to the doctor on the next steps or we can schedule you for another round of ivf...I was shocked that with all this time with this office, there was no review of my files or what can be done the next time to achieve a pregnancy. Fast forward to 2020, I decided to try to take advantage of the free consultation at other IVF offices. A few doctors reviewed my file and asked why the dr Purcell gave me this dosage and if anyone had ever mentioned endo/pcos to me. I was surprised to be diagnosed with endo and pcos. I had a laparoscopic surgery and went through my second round of IVF at CCRM. I got pregnant for the first time and now I am a mother to a baby boy. read more

I'm taking the time to repost it even while chasing after my toddler (THANKS TO THE CARE TEAM!!) because it's just that important to me. ******** I've been meaning to write a review but kept putting it off cause I want to keep Dr. Purcell and her staff to myself. I was planning to let the secret out after I graduated from their office, but after reading such a ridiculous 1 Star review, I had to drop everything and write my review now to make sure this office knows how awesome they are. I started my fertility journey at PAMF. Terrible. Doctor couldn't remember who I was. Didn't even bother reviewing my chart to refresh her memory before she walked into the room. I left after 2 IUI's. I was referred to Dr. Purcell by a friend who had success with them. And oh my god... from the moment we walked in and saw everyone's faces, my husband and I knew we had made the best ever decision to come to this office. Dr. Purcell always knew from the beginning exactly who I was and what my "story" is and where I was at in my journey. Like I've been her patient forever. I have a health care background so I'm always curious to know details and the why's of everything. EVERY doctor I have ever known would find that tremendously annoying to have someone like me asking a million questions at each appointment. Seriously, I go down a list of questions that I've written down ahead of time. Dr. Purcell has NEVER made me feel like she was in a rush or didn't want to answer my questions. She always took her time and explained everything in such great detail. And she would wait until she knew I was satisfied with/understood her answer before she'd move on. I'm not exaggerating. She has been our advocate and I truly feel she is fighting so hard for us and our success. Crap. Starting to get teary. Now. The staff. They are AMAZING. If you ever get to meet them, you will know exactly what I'm talking about. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. OF. THEM are such lovely people. They care so much about YOU and what they do. Irene is a badass with insurance and is so on top of EVERYthing (and she's wonderful to have a chat with about anything). Michelle is a god send and has the patience of a saint... got me through a lot of hair pulling moments. Pat has been a great support to me... always a great big smile and knows exactly what to say when it gets hard. Erika helps me stay on track with everything going on and never loses her patience with me either even tho I'm bothering her endlessly. Ivy is another one with bright smile and just makes you feel welcome. And Sandra! I miss working with her but so happy whenever I get to see her. There's a bunch of office people hiding in the back and the lab rats :) that I have to thank too cause they keep my freezer babies happy and everything running so smoothly. I love coming to this office. There is absolutely no way you will regret making this choice. I have to say that that review doesn't AT ALL sound like this office. Either she posted it in wrong place or it's fake. I've never been pricked more than once. EVER. My treatment calendar and schedule have always been very clear and straight forward. Dr. Purcell and her entire staff are amazing. I feel like we got SO lucky finding them! There are so many clinics in and around the Bay Area. My wife and I (both female) had been trying for over a year to get pregnant. Upon our first conversation with Dr. Purcell we could just tell she was very down to earth, caring, and less interested in the financial aspect. She listened to all of our concerns and got to know the both us really well. She tailored our care individually, working with my endometriosis and ovarian cysts along with my chronic pelvic pain. She was extremely reassuring and communicative. She put so much time and thought into our fertility journey. The front desk ladies calmed my nerves many times and were very kind and helpful. We started our cycle in January and by March we were pregnant. We are now 16 weeks with a healthy baby girl! We have since graduated from CARE but will forever be grateful for the professionalism and support we received from the staff throughout our time with them! read more

I was just denied care here because their office lacks the proper equipment to treat people of different sizes. I was strung along for months with misleading information only to be told that I can't be treated there because their BED for procedures has a weight limit of 250lbs. This is medical discrimination of the highest order and I will be pursuing legal action. read more

Dr Purcell and her staff are beyond super awesome. My first contact with them was Feb 2012 when the office was fairly new. The office was fairly quiet in 2012 but come 2013, this place is buzzing with patients. There are several stages through the process. Every stage with this office has been great regardless of the outcome. Phase 1: Getting to know the doctor, procedure and process. It's unbelievable how much time and patience Dr Purcell had with us. Our initial meetings were at least hour long due to all the questions we had Phase 2: Legal and Psychological preparation. I really like how Dr Purcell insist we go into the process with our eyes wide open in regards to the legal and psychological side of the treatment and repercussions. Am not saying she gives legal or psychological advice but she makes sure that we seek professional advice on both front. Also found recommendations for us or nudged us to the right direction. Phase 3: Prep work. Part of our process is we had to wait 6 months due to FDA regulations after some initial procedure. The office offers multiple options depending on your situation. Once you have a path, it also gives advice on how to prep for the procedure. Phase 4: Actual Process. Man, I tell ya. Be prepared. There are no guarantees of instant gratification. The staff are great in empathizing during the ups and downs of the process. Phase 5: Breaking the good news. I am not sure who was more excited when we finally got good news: the doctor or us ;) Both Dr Purcell and her staff took time to answer my email and verbal questions with thought and care. Given our 'modern family' circumstances, I am always afraid of reactions from doctors even in the bay area. Dr Purcell's bedside manner, her patience in answering questions, dealing with unique situations professionally all lead me to give this place 5 stars. I really like how she and her staff truly care. Even after many months of not treating me(passed on to a OB now), she or her staff still took the time to answer questions. Conclusion: Whether you are an LGBT or straight couple looking for fertility solutions, Dr Purcell and staff are great to work with. Patient, open-minded, caring, thorough. read more

I am 39yrs old, I had 3 miscarriages and 4 IUI's done with Dr. Karen Purcell last year. It took me almost 6 months to even try for 1st IVF this year due to my health condition. Dr. Purcell was very understanding as well as all the staff's... I can not say thank you enough to Irene,Pat,Erica,Sandra. They are so wonderful everyone made me feel comfortable during the whole IVF process. Although I would say it was definitely not cheap to do IVF with the generic testing and etc. At least I had 1 embryo frozen and I got pregnant right away I am now passed 11wks. My husband and I was amazed how our baby was dancing when we saw the ultrasound. It was the first pregnancy I heard a strong heartbeat with more then 3 ultrasounds. I graduated care for the bay area as of 10weeks but I already miss everyone here. Perhaps I can visit them after 20wks or so and hug everyone one more time. read more

I started seeing Dr. Purcell in January of 2014. We tried to get pregnant for a year with no success. Being that my husband and I are both over 40 we decided to seek help. My husband had a low count and motility and I needed to have small procedure to give us the best chances on conceiving. I had the procedure and we decided on an IUI w/o hormones. Long story short after two tries we got pregnant on the 2nd attempt. On January 1st 2015 we had a healthy and beautiful baby boy. Dr. Purcell and her staff Sandra and Irene were so nice and completely professional. They explained everything step by step and there were no billing surprises. We have been going to Dr Purcell for 3-4 yrs now. For last 4-5 months the staff has been treating us real bad, and there is a lot of churn in their staff. And the staff are really terrible and unprofessional. In case of any disagreement, they will immediately remind you of other IUI places. It does not matter how good a Doctor is; if he/she is not available or accommodating and the staff are rude and lying, it is not a place anyone should go. One time I was scheduled to be there at 7am on a Saturday and the entrances were all locked. I called them and someone picked up the phone after several times. But she was trying to unlock the gate remotely, so all I heard was speakerphone noise ! She did not realize that it was a person calling not the security system at the entrance. When I finally gained entry to the office, it was clear that the person at the desk was late to work and another person from the Lab did not know how to do things at the front desk. Then I saw the front desk staff coming in with a "I'm sorry". I do not know how the delay affected our chances, but I heard a complete different story later from Dr. Purcell about what happened that morning. Another time I was scheduled at 6am again on Saturday. I could not make it. I was there at 8. They would not take the specimen. Irene would not let me talk with Dr. Purcell until 1pm that day because she was busy with other patients. My wife was scheduled for 8, even so Irene was saying she is busy with other patients. When I insisted on seeing the doctor, she threatened to call the Police. If you decide to go, be prepared for the following frequent robotic responses - "Dr is busy with other patients" "Not many IUI places are open on Saturday" "There are other IUI places" "We were here" "Sorry the Lab cannot process you at this time" "We have no other slots" "We can refund your money back if you like" I do not recommend going to Dr Purcell. read more

After reading some good reviews, I decided to call this clinic as a new patient in July 2018. The coordinator sounded great, polite, and I had high expectations. She told me there would be a waitlist for a few months. I asked if a few months meant 2-3 months or 5-6 months so I could call around if I needed to. She told me 2-3 months. In September, she called to tell me they were waiting for me to pay my former clinic to transfer my medical records. I wanted to wait to pay until I knew I would get off the waitlist, but she insisted that even if I came up next, I would be skipped if my records weren't there. On that phone call, I asked an estimated wait time, she reassured that 1 more month would be reasonable. I paid to transfer my records and as of today in January 2019, she has still not made any additional contact to help me become a new patient. A courtesy call to at least see how I'm holding up in the midst of the emotional roller coaster by still sitting on the waitlist would have been nice. Word of advice for the clinic: you should always under promise and over deliver for your patients, not the opposite as you currently are. Word of advice for patients: call around so you aren't ignored and forgotten on a waitlist by this clinic. read more

This review is long over due. I have a beautiful 14 mo old daughter and this miracle happened through Dr. Purcell's amazing care and her wonderful staff. I never asked about their statistics and after going through this journey, I realize that everyone's experience is unique to you, your issues, your body. My journey wasn't easy. I had 4 separate transfers before my little one attached on the 5th attempt. Dr. Purcell never gave up, we talked about the various things I could try, she was very through, very gentle, very knowledgeable. With the last transfer I was just about to move out of state. This was my last try before taking a break. I really didn't have much hope, but it worked!!! During the initial first weeks i was pregnant I had a few scares. Dr. Purcell was so patient and kind and was extra cautious with my case to ensure everything was going well. She made time for me to come in, do an exam, and make sure everything was ok. Her staff was amazing through this journey. So friendly, supportive, caring and understanding. They make you feel welcome, they try to cheer you up, and they share the joy with you. Pat, Sandra, Irene, Dawn, Erica, Michelle, and everyone else...amazing. I wish I knew the embryologist's name with my last transfer. She was new for me, never met her until my last transfer. For some reason, her presence and the way she communicated with me....it was different. I felt more positive about my embryo. She made a huge difference in my experience as she wasn't just the embryologist going over details. I don't know how to explain it....it was just different. I am soooo thankful to have gone through this experience with Dr. Purcell and her team. She made my dreams come true and I will forever be thankful to her and her team. read more

I finally got the time to write a review about Dr. Purcell and CARE for the Bay. The first thing I would like to say, if you have been trying to conceive for a while, but it did not happen, if you are frustrated with the whole "getting pregnant" process, if it seems that all friends around you are getting pregnant, but it's just not in the cards for you and your partner (and some of your friends are even getting pregnant accidentally, woo-hoo!:)))), if you decided to seek help of a professional fertility specialist, please look no further - Dr. Purcell is absolutely-absolutely-absolutely amazing..... After about 8 months of fruitless attempts to have a baby, I decided that we have to act more radically and fast on this matter. My husband and I went through all the tests to find out what the problem was, and it looked like both of us had certain issues. We are both somewhat young too, 33 for me and 37 for my husband. I turned for advice to multiple doctors: my goal was to find that kind treatment that would be the most effective with the least amount of time and money spent. The answer from all the specialists I talked to was IVF. I fully realized that IVF was sort of a gamble and it might not work from the first try. Taking into account that even best insurance plans cover only 1 -1.5 cycles of this expensive procedure, you have to think 10 times before choosing the right clinic. I read multiple reviews, did thorough research, talked to many specialists in Los Gatos area (word of mouth is a powerful source of information when it comes to doctors and recommendations). In the end, I came to conclusion that Dr. Purcell was the one. After we met with her for the initial consultation, both me and my better half intuitively knew that she was the right choice. We scheduled our procedure in four months to allow ourselves some time to travel, compose out thoughts and pluck up courage. However, no matter how prepared you think you are to go though this, it's a true emotional roller coaster (I believe the hormonal injections contribute to that as well:), and sometimes it is really hard to to cope with your feelings. I must tell you that Dr. Purcell puts you at such an ease with each step - injections, egg retrieval, transfer and getting the final news. She presents all the information in a very true and reasonable manner, she was patient with the million questions I had for her at each appointment, even more - she welcomed all my questions and was happy I had them; her bedside manner is EXCELLENT; she was always on time, and saying "on time", i mean minute per minute for all her appointments; she is kind, polite, funny and one of the MOST EXPERIENCED AND PROFESSIONAL DOCTORS, I have ever met, and I have seen quite a few. The OB that gave me a final referral to Dr. Purcell said: "You are going to love her", and I think that is exactly how I and my husband felt about Dr. Purcell. Another thing I would like to mention that she is SO hard-working. Sometimes, I had appointments at the clinic as early as 5 AM to accommodate my work schedule. I would come to the office that early and her car would already be in the parking lot. I did read the previous negative review from another yelper, but I must tell you one thing: when the doctor cares about their patients, that is what matters the most and helps you achieve positive results. The estimate we received from Irene for the cost of the procedure was almost cent to cent correct. The welcoming attitude of Pat and some other team members was outstanding, and what's most important, of course, is the actual result - we are expecting two fraternal boys to be born at the end of August (and that's talking into consideration that we had only two eggs after the egg retrieval, which also speaks about the quality of the lab at the clinic). My pregnancy is going very well, and we are ready to meet our sons in person soon. So, again, looking for a great clinic, trustworthy and professional doctor? Infertility is a roller coaster ride, regardless of who you are and what the cause is. Long story short, my wife and I have unexplained infertility and had been trying to conceive for over 2 years. Dr. Purcell got us pregnant within 6 months of seeing her. It still wasn't easy, with a lot of ups and downs, diagnostic exams, blood draws, unexpected bleeding, etc. We were still on the roller coaster, but we knew Dr. Purcell and her staff were strapped in with us. They were caring and professional and saw us through to the end. I'm only sorry we didn't write a review sooner, but hey, that's what parental leave is for, right? ;) read more
