Had me a wonderful breakfast at C & C Cafe last weekend. It is a bit of a drive from lower central Bucks County to Perkasie, but the trip and destination were both well worth the time and effort. This part of Bucks hasn't changed all that much and its large open forests and fields, and the ageless charm of this 19th Century village, make for a near magic experience. C&C is on the first floor of an old building and feels sort of like being in a basement. The dining room has room for about a dozen tables, while the counter where I sat had 5 stools. From my perch I was able to see most of what was going on. The house was near full with locals who all seemed to know each other and talked of community issues and the latest sporting news. Staff was friendly and mostly high school kids working part time jobs to save for college or other consumption. The woman in charge was mistress of her domain and made sure everything ran efficiently. I walked in with an open mind about what to eat, but upon seeing the weekend specials, I knew I would look no further than, "Pappy's Italian Chicken Fried Steak." I was curious and seriously interested in one of my favorite morning meals that is not available in most places. What arrived about 15 minutes later blew my mind. It looked like veal/chicken parmigiana, with rich red gravy over beautifully pan fried thin packed ground steak. Thick chunks of mozzarella melted atop the two filets, accompanied by two scrambled eggs, home fries, rye toast, and a steak knife just in case the fork/butter knife didn't do the trick (they didn't cut the mustard). The CFS was delicious, and I cut it into small pieces to prolong my enjoyment. The red sauce was epic and made in house. The potatoes were good, but really unnecessary given the awesomeness of the main attraction. The rye was standard and useful in sopping up the sauce. The eggs were really just a space filler on the already heavy large plate. It was one of those meals that I didn't want to end. The coffee was also quite good, and I appreciated the refills. This was another of my favorite breakfasts for 2022. I have had a few already, but C&C was right up there with the best of them. So tempted to return soon!

At the very least, Rise and Grind Cafe has an interesting name. Without reading too much into it,…read moreit references the rise of the dough in the baking process and the grind of the beans as its excellent La Colombe Coffee is brewed. A saltier interpretation is also easily possible, but this is a family website. The corner store on North 7th Street, Perkasie, is large, bright and airy. Windows all around make for a pleasant room to sip and chat. Additionally, the floor space is taken up with cute household goods and accessories for purchase, from honey and jam to mugs and glitchy signs. Their pastry display is mostly locally sourced or made in-house. Very attractive in a down home way. I ordered the Breakfast Hash and large Java. The La Colombe was great and the meal was served in an aluminum foil lined plastic to-go box. It was composed of diced sweet potato, onion, green pepper and plenty of chopped sausage, with rye toast wrapped in foil. It was delicious with mix of savory and sweeter flavors and two over easy eggs on top slowly leaking into the mound of veggies beneath and adding their smoothness and subtle taste to everything. I sat at the shelf in the front of the store eating and watching kids with Easter baskets searching for painted eggs. It was obvious that Perkasie puts effort into being a family town. They put a smile on my face and made my drive up county even more worthwhile.

This historic location was a rest and play stop for literary and theater New Yorkers in the 20s and 30s and probably beyond -- check out the famous signatures and notes in the albums in the main living room. The owners keep a handful of rescued farm animals (pot-bellied pigs, mini ponies, goats), and it is clear they are well cared for. It is a busy place for big wedding events now, and so we like to stay during the week. It is very relaxing to walk around the grounds. We saw a giant heron in the pond and deer strolling. There are so many nice places to sit outside with a bottle of wine and a book or snacks. Rooms are very unique and comfortable. You have a lot of different personalities to choose from: lofts, cabins, barn spaces, etc. Many have jacuzzis which can provide your evening entertainment, lol. We have not eaten in the restaurant because our top restaurant on earth is very close by, but when it was closed, Josh gave us great recommendations. And he made a lovely tofu scramble for breakfast as a special request. One sweet touch: despite checking the room, we left without my spouse's expensive phone charger. Housekeeping found it and ran after us before we could drive off without it. She did not have to do that. Always tip your housekeeping staff. The extended Covid months have been very hard on inns, restaurants, and event spaces, and it must be stressful for them as things come back to life when so many events have been postponed. It is wonderful to be back out again. We will return -- a lot.

The Barley Sheaf is very serious about pandemic precautions, so masks are in full effect, and they'll walk you to your socially-distanced table in a beautiful, outdoor gardening setting. The inn itself is an architectural delight, as well, so you are surrounded by beauty on all sides. Service was pleasant and forthcoming. I wouldn't say that this is the finest level of dining, of course, you're not expecting EMP in the middle of Bucks County, but this is a good attempt, and people are pleasant and quite dignified. The guests were all well attired and the crowd is polite and kind. Food is of the adventurous character, which I enjoy. A lot of different flavor combinations (they like to do salé and sucré), beautiful plating, interesting textures, and good cooking techniques. My favorites were the octopus appetizer (so buttery soft and tender, which is a rarity) and the pheasant special, which was a pleasant and apropos surprise in this outdoor, country setting. Finally, this is a BYOB restaurant with perfectly selected wine glasses, fine silverware, and other special touches such as a freshly starched linens, etc. which elevate the dining experience.

It also had shrimp wrapped in bacon and a side of potatoes. The servings allowed us to both bring home leftovers of which I ate for dinner. Highly recommend Sammy's. Go!!

I also tried the soup of the day which is the chicken corn chowder and I highly enjoyed it. It's a very small cafe and not much room to move about so when it's packed it gets pretty noisy. The couple things I want to note are around how long it was to wait for a table and food. We arrived in the area around 1125am and I called to place my name on the wait-list. Upon answering, the hostess informed me you have to place your name on the waitlist in person. No issue, I walked over to do this. Only to find out that the waitlist is monitored by Yelp, which can easily be done online. So that was very frustrating to see at the start. We then were told to wait 15-20 minutes. When we got to the front of the list, they then informed us that we needed to wait an additional 20-30 minutes as the kitchen needed to flip. This was very confusing and a big turn off. Eventually, I spoke with a woman who allowed us to come inside and sit down instead of waiting outside for over an hour. It would have been nice to know at the outset of this whole interaction that breakfast wasn't going to be an option and then it would be an hour before we could order and eat. At the end of the day, we ate our great food and enjoyed being able to dine at this place. I will just look into a few more places on my next visit here.

The food has remained very consistent here for years. The menu is appealing, and the prices are very reasonable. The convenience alone made this hotel a perfect choice--being able to walk over to the theater was a huge plus. The show itself was a Harry Chapin tribute in January 2026 featuring original band members Steve Chapin, Howie Fields, and Big John Wallace, which made the evening especially memorable. The hotel itself has Victorian details and a grand antique bar that gives the whole place a great vibe. It is a must-stay if you appreciate history mixed with modern comfort. Our room was clean, comfortable, and surprisingly quiet, providing a high-end yet cozy place to rest after the show. We had a delicious dinner at the hotel restaurant before the concert, and the breakfast the next morning (included with our stay) was great.
