Arbosana is a small, family owned business owned by husband and wife duo Derek and Joanna, opening this little space in Village Square in May 2023. They hold tasting classes once and month and you can book your spot online on their website. Their events are also BYOB! Before the tasting, Derek gave us an introduction on the history of Arbosana and how it got started. They originally started their business out of their home and made numerous appearances at farmers markets and other events. He also hinted at opening a second location in Henderson, so I hope that happens in the future! We were given a taste wheel to describe what kind of flavors we would get from the olive oil. Afterwards, we ranked our favorite to least favorite and then we had to guess which olive oil wasn't theirs. Following the olive oil tasting, we also did the balsamic vinegar tasting with four different courses. The courses were mixed greens, harissa chickpeas, cheese, and vanilla ice cream. My favorite was the vanilla ice cream, although it was super salty on top at first, but it got a little sweeter towards the end. I absolutely loved the fig balsamic vinegar added to it. Following the tasting, we got to sample their olive oil and vinegar flavors. My dad sampled the espresso vinegar and he was blown away by the taste of it. My dad cooks for my mom and my grandma, so he was literally in heaven when he saw all the countless olive oil flavors. Not too surprisingly, he went home with like three different flavors. Since I cook myself (I mostly use EVOO for cooking), I got me a 16oz bottle of butter flavored olive oil. My dad and I also picked up their harissa chickpea recipe before leaving. This was tasty but a little spicy. Thanks Derek, Joanna, and the rest of the Arbosana staff for welcoming me back and allowing my group to try out your tasting class! They had a lot of fun and praised me for coming up with this idea.

The tasting experience was very different than other tastings I have experienced. First we did a taste test of four different olive oil. We were supposed to rate them and try to explain the flavor of each one. I wasn't very good at this. Then we saw a series of slides and were educated about olive oil production, freshness, and flavor. We were served a variety of small bites that featured a different flavor of olive oil. The most shocking one was the vanilla ice cream topped with a fig balsamic vinegar! It was so good, & I never thought this would pair together. I don't like chickpeas, however, they served a dish that was drizzled with Harissa infused olive oil, mint, & cilantro which I found to be absolutely delicious! It was $45 for the tasting. It was a fun, interesting, & enjoyable experience. I purchase four bottles of oil before I left. I think they should have offered a small discount on immediate purchased for everyone who paid to be here this night. I would have bought more than 4 bottles if they did. Also, don't forget to purchase the bottle toppers that slow the pour of olive oil. I purchased my four bottles and then someone else told me about the toppers that slow the pour so you don't waste an excessive amount of oil. You can also recycle your Arbosana used bottles by bringing them back to them and they will give you a dollar off your next purchase. A family member of mine, got her degree as a Master Gardener and did a majority of her time working at this place. So knowing family was here, I'd say it's a valuable location to come to. Let's say you are wanting to know how to get a garden growing in your yard - you have tried and everything has turned into charred leaves and stalks with no crops or flowers. Well - you can learn from the Master Gardeners just how to make that backyard garden flourish and thrive with productivity or even just to keep it alive! Spend a little time working with these folks, you can learn how to DIY your own backyard to make it a thriving location and learn when the best time to pick fruits and veggies off the vines and trees. In addition volunteering with these folks you can take fresh produce home (they will be bird pecked or bruised, don't expect perfection) at no charge. And even if you don't want to vounteer your time, and just want to pick up some nice fresh produce - well you can certainly buy what they have in supply as it is in season. Don't expect to just pick it yourself though. They are pretty restrictive about that. Prices for their produce are fairly reasonable. All proceeds from the food sales are directed back into the costs for all the work involved in keeping the farm running. Cash only. Their hours are restricted to Tuesdays and Thursdays. You will know if they are open when you see the gate open. You have to park on the side of the street as there is no true parking lot.

Cluck It Farm is a great local source of produce in the valley. I recently signed up for their 1/2…read moreproduce share CSA spring program and am loving it. The produce is fresh, tasty, colorful, and wholesome. Clearly quite the step up from what you get at the grocery store. You can get eggs too. On Monday afternoon, the website opens for orders for 24 hours and then you can either pick up your order or have it delivered for a nominal fee which is super convenient. If you miss the order window, it's ok as they will make choices for you. They ask that you enroll for the entire 12-16 week program so that they can plan accordingly for the season. There is a cancellation fee which is completely appropriate and fair. They accept credit card and SNAP through their website. If you need to hold on an order, they will allow for it a handful of times per season with adequate heads up (by Saturday) which is nice. If you're looking for a variety of fresh produce to be provided to you and your family on a weekly basis at a reasonable price, I'd strongly recommend that you consider Cluck It Farm's CSA program.
