CoolTech Mechanical came to my home on Thursday, May 28, 2026, for routine HVAC maintenance on two…read moreunits. The technician was professional, knowledgeable, and did good work. My issue is not with the technician. My issue is with the office's billing after the work was already quoted, approved, and completed. During the visit, the technician advised that a capacitor was out of tolerance. He showed me the reading, quoted $155 for the replacement, and showed me CoolTech's pricing sheet on his phone before I approved the work. He then completed the repair and showed me the new capacitor reading. We had already agreed to $177.15 for the maintenance visit, so I expected the total to be $332.15 before any additional discount. Because we are a disabled veteran household, I asked whether they offered any additional discount. If the answer had been no, that would have been fine. Instead, the office later claimed that after a supposed 20% discount, the total was $389. That math does not make sense. When I questioned it, I was told the technician had quoted me wrong, even though he had quoted the price and shown me the pricing sheet before I authorized the work. This is a predatory billing practice: quote and show one price in the field, complete the work, then have the office bill a higher amount afterward while claiming the original quote was wrong. My broader concern is for elderly or vulnerable customers who may not feel able to challenge a bill. Customers should get a hard copy or take a photo of any quoted pricing before authorizing work. I was not allowed to speak with the owner who the office dispatch stated had died on May 4th. We paid the bill are choosing to not use CoolTech in the future.. The technician did good work, but the office billing experience was unacceptable.

Curtis is a very professional, no-nonsense type of man, not trying to up-sell you, and the entire experience was very pleasant. I had a full day planned already and kept calling back because I sure didn't want to miss this appointment. Cary was very kind and understanding and told me the service tech would call me. Steve, the service technician, was kind enough to call me when he was 30 minutes out. When he came he pointed out that the compressor that was having problems was a 2006 compressor, That meant this sweet machine had been working for 20 years! A dishonest technician would have told me that that was a long time for a compressor and it needed to be replaced, But Steve is honest, and did his due diligence, He diagnosed it as a capacitator problem, fixed the capacitator and within 24 hours of my first call to this amazing company my AC was again cooling! When they left we would never have known they were here other than the fact the house was cool instead of sweltering. They have a web-based bidding system which made it very easy to see what they were offering us and what exactly we would be getting. Mike and Tarion were professional as they diagnosed the issue. Mike did a great job explaining to me what the problem was and confirmed my warranty information. He also took pictures from the attic to show me what was going on with the coil. I was given a quote for the work. This is where I didn't quite understand why it was so pricey given Chat GPT was providing the average cost much less. I spoke with Tony, and he provided the breakdown for the estimate for the labor cost. The two men were good and I appreciate Drew and Sam for their hard work and willingness to make sure all my questions were answered. They were professional and friendly and very nice guys. They were quick because it took 2.5 hours to complete the job. Because of that, I overlooked the very expensive labor fee. :-) I would give the company a five star if I felt they showed complete transparency with their labor fees per hour. I know most companies do not want to disclose that information, but this provides the consumer with a sense of respect and not being taken advantage of the situation. I feel this would be a fair. All that to say is, I am happy to be back in a cool home. I now have a home warranty. All I pay is a deductible. :-)

Our breaker would occasionally trip under sustained load, the fan went out, and the compressor starter assist was too small (thanks to a competitor). I thought we would have to replace the system.
