Lack of commitment and communication is this company's biggest issue. Our project took over 7 months to complete. This included wrong products being ordered, wrong measurements being taken and lack of appropriate responses. I contacted the salesman after 5 months and he said there was nothing he could do to assist us. So in other words, once he had us sign the contract he was done with us. I asked them to deduct 10% from our bill due to the fact we had to have an issue taken care of in the meantime because they never showed up and they refused to even consider it. My husband worked for C & L Ward for almost 3 years, up until this morning. The employees that installed window's and door's would meet at the Davison shop, and partner up and drive in work vehicle's to their job sites for the day. In November, they switched my husbands partner to a man named Joe, they began riding with one another. Joe is the employee who would do all of the work on the inside of client's homes, taking in all of his belongings that came from his own home each day such as work bags and tool pouches and lunch boxes and coats. Joe would spend between 8 to 12 hours per day in each clients home with his personal belongings. My husband worked outside. A little over a week ago, our family started to notice random bug bites. I'm a clean freak, I have OCD, so I wasn't sure where they were coming from. I tore our home apart and we sprayed for spiders and thought nothing more about it. That was until last week, Joe made the statement that he has bed bugs... My husband immediately panicked and called Orkin upon arriving home that day. Sure enough, we now have bed bugs and it is costing us a lot of money to take care of because we refuse to live like that. My husband immediately let Eric Ward know, a long with the supervisor, Dave. Neither one said a word to him. My husband let them know that he refused to ride in the same vehicle with Joe due to this. We had our home treated which cost $1300 and Joe chooses not to have his home treated. My husband explained to Eric and Dave that Joe is contaminating everyone that has to ride with him to job sites, but most importantly the clients home's that he is in for hours at a time with his personal belongings. If it was that easy for him to pass along his bugs in a vehicle, think about how easy it is for him to pass them along while being in clients home's. Not a word was said. Eric nor Dave addressed the situation. My husband took vacation days to stay home and handle our situation. When my husband returned to work today, they wanted him to ride in his vehicle again and he refused. Why would he jeopardize our family and the house treatment having to be in a vehicle with him again. Because my husband refused, they fired him. Just be aware when hiring this company that they do not care about you or the safety of your home and family. They will knowingly send an employee into your home with his personal belongings that has bed bugs. I'm headed to the news with this next. People need to be warned so that this doesn't happen to other families. read more

We could not be happier with our experience with C&L Ward. We are SOOOO incredibly impressed with new windows and doors. After a few stressful outsourced house projects that didnt go so well, i came into this window replacement purchase with a lot of paranoia and negativity. I read a few bad reviews and convinced myself we'd be ripped off or it would take a year for the install to occur. I was super wrong. Now i think those other bad reviews were flukes or unreasonable people. We had all of our windows and doors replaced (about 22 cut-outs with a lot more panes of glass and 3 doors.) A few of the windows were very big. Dave was our sales guy and helped us make decisions on what to select, which we desperately needed. He was super patient and nice. He also answered numerous whiney/paranoid emails of mine--always with a good attitude. NIcole (who scheduled and coordinated stuff and seemed to keep track of ordering all our parts and the pre-finish process) also dealt with my whiney/paranoid questions and always answered timely and comprehensively. Leo came out and did our final measurements and seemed to be incredibly knowledgeable and patient as well. Then, the crew who did the install was my favorite part of all! Chuck, Jake, Justin, Cliff, and others, but i didnt catch all of their names... we were so, so amazed at their skill and speed. It took 5 full days, but it was a huge job and i dont know how they got it all done so quickly and so perfectly. I thought it would take a lot longer and interrupt our daily life a lot more. They were such smart, competent people.. and super professional. I enjoyed hearing them talk in the background. They had this nice, positive energy. They even cleaned super well every night before they left. i'm still amazed how they built the frames on-site. i REALLY wanted wider-than-normal window sills and they super nicely/patiently listened to all my whims and then built them everywhere! They are really all so beautiful. I am so glad we didnt wait to replace our windows. Its wonderful how much quieter it is in our house now that we have these far-improved windows. my husband keeps walking around saying "our house looks phenomenal now!" We first met Dave in mid June and thats when we began the process. Install occurred in early September, just as Dave predicted. Do not use this "company". Ordered a new front door and siding for front porch in August 2019, paying thousands up front (more than 50%). Door installed November 26 with obviously crooked frame across top. Siding finally installed Dec 30 after 3 delays, no shows, and installer showing up without needed materials. Door currently missing top of frame (removed by siding installer) and 1-2 inch gap between sill and siding. After pics sent and complaint called, told Jan 3 that someone would be "right out to fix", scheduled for Jan 28. Notified Jan 27 that materials needed not in, rescheduled for the 31st. The actual work done so far has taken 4 -5 hours. The Jeld Wen door , though beautiful , can be bought at Home Depot or Lowe's. Mine came with the incorrect handle but I will not take a chance to complain at this point, happy to have anyone show up with anything at all. I am writing this on behalf of my parents who enlisted C&L Ward to fix some windows at their home. First of all, this company is exactly the type of company that give contractors a bad name. They took the deposit and didn't show up for 3 months. When they finally did get to the job site they realized they were so incompetent that they ordered the wrong parts. No follow up from the company after this, they would not answer the phone or return voicemails. Finally I emailed the company president on 12/23 about the matter and to his credit he replied and said he would get an answer. A few hours later the evasive customer service rep called and advised that everyone was out on holiday but would follow up by January 2nd. Here it is January 6 and over 5 months since the company took the deposit for work not completed with no resolution. As of writing this email my mother has demanded her money back to which the company responded that the "finance person" was out today but will process tomorrow. I have 20+ y/o Andersen windows and 1 wasn't working and there were lesser problems with 3 others. I called Andersen and they told me this was the best, and closest, repair firm (we live in Ann Arbor). In just a few days their technician, Don, came out. He wore a face mask the entire time, was quite professional, personable, and worked until things were perfect. I'd most definitely use Don again. Great experience! read more

We were excited to buy custom front doors. The excitement is gone! The whole process has been a nightmare. They were ordered in January 2018. The first set is backwards. The unprofessional management has never even contacted us. They finally sent out mid-management with no authority to do anything but assure us that the next set of doors will be inspected and he would personally oversee the installation (the installers were great). I thought mistakes happen - OK they will make it right. Wrong! Today they showed up with another set of doors with a big paint bubble, all scraped up and a dent. Back they go! $6000 for this! We had C&L Ward put new windows and a sliding door in our house. These windows are not up to the standards of other manufacturers.. These windows are more drafty than the 40 year old windowsthey replaced. The bottom of the window where it meets the frame it not air tight. We will have to add barriers for winter to cut down on heatibg cost. The slidibg door is no different, around the handle, cold air screams thru around the handle seals. I warn you all, dont`t be fooled into thinking this is a god company. read more

Update: March 2019 - still have had no one come to inspect the roof or pick up the extra supplies from C & L ward. Finally got an appointment to have them come this morning at 9am. Told them I have another obligation at 11 am. At 8:58 I get a text saying the inspector is in a meeting with Eric Ward who both know my timetable today for their arrival that they won't be out until around 11. What the heck!?!?! If it was me I would have been in the driveway knocking at 8:59 knowing all the crappy service I've given thus far. Soon as the C&L Ward guy got out of his car, without introduction or handshake or anything, began spewing out "this is an $80,000 job... this is a $50,000 job... " etc This was before he even KNEW WHAT THE WORK SCOPE WAS. After explaining the scope to just re- siding the house he took no measurements and no pictures. He only said "lipstick on a pig" and left. 2 weeks later when I had to inquire on his quote, he quoted $125,000. To put siding on a house. Um. I told him he misunderstood. I don't want him to build a new house and then side it, I just wanted to re-side the existing house. What a joke. They were 70% more expensive than my next highest quote of 4 bids. They aren't even trying to estimate, they just spin the wheel. These guys prices are way out of line. They just fish for the uneducated consumer and try to take complete advantage of them. Complete exterior was redone several years ago. There were numerous issues with the installation and materials and much had to be redone. Material that was installed was basically described as indestructible; this same material is no longer sold in Michigan due to it being incompatible with the Michigan climate. What was expected to last a lifetime is now a nightmare and the guarantees and promises are useless. read more

CL Ward stands behind their products, has great customer service, and does a quality job. We purchased a house with original windows. We ordered the windows from CL Ward and when the date for our install came, it was probably the worst winter day we had in 2016. I live in a colonial where two windows were very steep and I was concerned for their safety. Not only did they get all the windows in, my floors, staircase, and carpet never reflected that there was even wet snowy weather outside. We had a few small issues (manufacturer issues) and when a representative from the manufacturer came, they had no solution. CL Ward not only responded promptly to all my calls, but fixed each detail I called about. 9 mos later, I am loving my new windows and my experience with CL Ward! read more

This company is GARBAGE!!! They are one of the WORST companies I've ever worked with. The job they did was well below standard and the customer service is an absolute joke. It took them 3 months to do roofing job that we were told would take 3 days. In my opinion, the job still isnt completed but they sure as hell want their money. We're expected to be beyond tolerant when they keep screwing the customer over but they aren't at all tolerant when it comes to paying the bill. They do an ok install job. But the delays (months) are annoying. And you have already given them your deposit. They did some damage to our electrical and Dave Hunt came out to inspect it. He told us to get an electrician and they would pay us back the $235 we spent to have it repaired. We did exactly what he told us to do and CL Ward wouldn't reimburse us. They wouldn't even answer our emails. Our electrician called them and told them the problem was most likely 99% caused by them. They are outright liars. AWFUL. TERRIBLE. Signed contract in August 2016 and here I am writing in June 2017 and my job is not yet complete. Terrible follow up with months of no contact, missed appointments and no return phone calls. Job was for windows, soffits and gutters - section of gutter blew down 2 weeks after installation, damaging a window, trim and siding. Find someone else - C&L Ward is not worth the headache. I will go out of my way to attend home improvement shows where C&L Ward is a vendor to warn people away from them. read more

C.L. Ward has been a disaster for us with our composite deck. They use an inferior product (Fiberon) which has bleached after less than one year - among other problems. The highly touted warranty is non existent. read more

We are having the worst time with CL Ward. We contracted them for a rather expensive composite deck to be installed. The project was going to be in 2 separate phases with more potential work down the road. The initial date for the build was projected at May 23 and due to poor communication until May 18, materials were not ordered. This placed us in mid June now. When that time rolled around there were more excuses why they had to push the date. Finally materials were placed on our driveway over a week ago and we still have no idea when the deck will be constructed. Everyday there is a new excuse and it gets pushed out. This is the worst experience ever. For how much this is costing and all the work that we had talked about getting done down the road, it is amazing what poor customer service we are getting. Clearly a case of overpromise and under deliver - daily. We feel very taken advantage of. We asked to speak to a manager last week and then later that morning materials were delivered but still no idea when the build will commence. We are halfway through the summer now with no deck. Unbelievable! Update as of 7/14/17: C&L Ward finally sent out a crew to begin the demo on our deck. However, after talking with them, they were under the impression that they were only doing a partial tear down so that they could rebuild on the existing structure. This was not what was discussed at only or agreed to in our contract when negotiating. At the time of our quote the salesperson agreed that there was no way to rebuild on the existing structure because it would not be up to code and unsafe. We completely agreed. However, the information was supposedly entered into their system incorrectly and now they are stating that it would be another $8000.00 to do it the way we initially agreed in the contract! They would only charge us $4000.00 though because of the inconvenience. I'm so frustrated right now it is unbelievable. I thought this was a reputable company and my wife and I feel so duped right now. Not only are they 2 months past the projected start date of the deck but now they are trying to get $4000.00 more out of us. This is classic bait and switch. I truly hope they can rectify their mistakes and finish the job they were intended to do so that we can be done. This is sickening! read more

I don't think I would choose C&L Ward again. They have very persistent sales people. If you give them your number, they will call you and send e-mails to get you to purchase stuff which is expected. I decided to give them a shot at installing a small patch of siding on the back of my garage. The salesperson came out and that aspect was fine. But he never sent me my contract even though he said he would e-mail me. Then the measurer had to be rescheduled from the date they told me barely 24 hours lately. Also fine as they contacted me right away. I complained to the person on the phone about the contract and was e-mailed it. My tentative scheduled install was July 22nd. I hadn't heard anything about the job I paid them to do but I've received regular monthly e-mails about asking me to start a new project with them. I called at the end of July and was told I was 4th in line to be scheduled. It's now almost September and I haven't been scheduled yet. C&L Ward also hasn't initiated contact with me since the initial measurer came out. I'll do my research better in the future. read more

If you want your order completed in a timely fashion I would suggest going with another company. Not only did your install date come and go without a word from our "Project Manager" but we were constantly having to track her down for any kind of update. 3 weeks past our initial installation date we finally got our door. My husband took a personal day to stay home for the install just to be told at the end of the day, the door had been built wrong and would need to be reordered and reinstalled. We would later find out there was a "computer glitch" that caused the problem, not from the "Project Manager" but from the installers during the second door installation. 3 weeks after the first install we finally have a door. After contacting customer service to dispute the final bill, for time, hassle and project mismanagement I have yet to hear a word back. Perhaps C&L Ward should wait an additional 7 weeks to receive final payment??? I should add, it took 14 weeks and 5 days from the first check I wrote, for this project to be completed. read more

We had a composite deck built by C&L Ward in the summer of 2015. It failed inspection more than once and took us the entire summer to get them to come back out and make the necessary corrections. The steps were put in crooked and the boards are not level with the ones that cover the joists (creating trip hazards). By mid winter, all of the corners had separated (by more than 1/4") and we've had three separate visits to correct it but it's still not finished. Huge mistake hiring this company! Wish we could rip it all out and go elsewhere. read more

Like others who rated C&L Ward, our doorwall was late also. We were flexible and it wasn't an issue. Where we did have a problem was after the installation. The evening after the installation, half of our programmable low voltage deck lighting was 'out', meaning it wasn't lit. We called our project manager, Dave Hunt and explained it was an electrical issue. He said they would send someone out. That someone turned out to be him, and because he has no electrical background, was clueless as to how to remedy the outage. He said he would have to 'run it up the ladder' and get back with me. I was not confident that we had a viable plan in place, so I hired a local electrician who spent 2 hours and finally was able to reconstruct and reconnect wiring near where the installation took place. He charged me $235.00 which I felt was reasonable. When I called Dave Hunt, his tone was very snarky and asked me why I went ahead and hired someone. Why, if Dave Hunt knew it was an electrical issue, did he not send someone from his company with electrical knowledge? Over the next month, every step of this customer service issue had to be initiated by me. There was absolutely no follow up from anyone at C&L Ward. Moving up the ladder, I contacted Jeff Calvin from C&L Ward. I resent the electricians report and asked for reimbursement. Our project manager Dave Hunt completely mischaracterized our conversation and said he told me he was authorized to allow us to spend $100 to fix it. This is absolutely not true. After my electrician Ken Russell spoke to Jeff Calvin, Jeff Calvin left a voice message and said that since it could not be proven that their installers caused the problem, they were not going to do anything. We had just spent almost $15,000 with them. Had it been night time when they made the installation, we could have seen on the spot that the lights weren't working. Since they only come on at night, C & L Ward chose to take the low road and insist there was no causality. This company clearly has a problem with their culture. It's okay for everyone in the company to treat customers poorly. Our 2018 budget includes more window replacements on the west side of our home. We will never work with C&L Ward again. read more

On October 31, 2017 I met with a salesperson to order a custom front entry door. I have mixed feelings toward C and L Ward. On the plus side, everyone I dealt with was kind and gracious. The installation crew was great. On the negative side it took four months for the door to be installed. I was originally given an install date of January 10, over two months from the contract signing. It was explained to me that they were backed up with work and that it was possible that the installation would be before the January 10 date. On January 8 I was called and was told the installation would be February 10. On February 9 I was called and told the install had to be pushed back until February 14. On February 13 I was called and told that the installation had to be postponed again and no date could be given. Finally I was called and said that the door would be installed on February 27. If I had known that it would take 4 months to install a single door I never would have gone with C and L Ward. Needless to say I will not be using them again. read more

They were respectful and the finish carpenter did an outstanding job on the trim. Price was good on lower end Windows. read more

C&L Ward is the worst company. They come in with huge promises and great sales people, but then the rest of their process is a nightmare, not to mention their install teams are shoddy at best. C&L Ward installed what was supposed to be a high-end, high-quality roof on my house. It was roughly $15,000 for the roof. My wife and I signed the papers in May of 2016. The salesperson told us it would be a 3-5 day install and they could start by June 16th. June 16th came and went without even a phone call from them. I called our PM on the 18th, she told me they would be delayed until June 27th. This date wasn't going to work for my wife and I as we had conflicting plans. C&L then rescheduled us to July 5th. July 5th came and went, once again, no call, no show, however, the shingles were delivered. The delivery guys left so much trash laying around that I had to clean up my yard and my neighbor's yards. I called our PM again just to hear that we were rescheduled for install again to July 8th. On the morning of July 8th the dumpster was dropped off, blocking the garage, which we were prepared for, but guess what, no roofers at all. Roofers didn't show up until Monday, July 11th. The excuse we were given was that the crew had broken down trucks and one of their crew was hospitalized for heat exhaustion. Whether this was true or not, we don't know, but none of this was communicated to us without me having to hunt down the PM, and regardless, the company has a commitment to the consumer to communicate and figure out the best possible solution. Neither of those were done. Once the job was finally started, the crew was extremely slow. Most days they showed up for only a few hours. Sometimes they would show up, work an hour, head to lunch for two hours, then return for an hour. The most people I saw working on our roof was four, and this is a 3,000 sq. ft. steep pitch roof. Our 3-5 day job turned into an 11-day nightmare riddled with issues. Part of the roof had to be reroofed due to an incorrect install (basically, they took the lazy way out and had to fix it). None of the ridge vents were installed correctly, or consistently for that matter. Some were hanging past the edge of the roof line, others were set back a few inches. They used white caulk on dark brown flashing, so the house looked like it had white dots all over it. There were shingles buckling where they didn't leave enough room against the house. They left so much debris in the gutters (not to mention in our yard/landscape) that the gutter installers wouldn't install the new gutters until the old ones were cleaned out. It took three trips to clean up the leftover nails (the second trip found over 200 nails alone). All the meanwhile, I had to hunt down the project manager and coordinator to get any updates or answers. When the job was finally finished I told the PM that I was going to be seeking a refund for the delays and trouble. His comment to me was, "well, our owner says we've been around a long time and we're not going anywhere." He continued to tell me that I could talk to the owner but I probably wouldn't see a dime because the job was ultimately finished. Mind you, I still owed them 50% of the total payment. So, I sat on the payment until someone would actually talk to me. Eric Ward refused to talk to me, so he made one of his managers, John, deal with me. John actually apologized and made it sound like they would step up. He told me he would personally talk to Eric and call me back in the next 48 hours. Two weeks later after numerous calls to John, our PM, and project coordinator, John finally said all they would offer was $300. On a $15,000 job all they claimed they could discount was $300. Unbelievable. Unfortunately, this wasn't where the nightmare ended. Fast forward to winter 2016. I now have three rooms with stains on the ceilings. The PM came out to check, took pictures, told me he would have a crew out within a couple of days. Once again, more promises that have not been delivered. Better yet, he told me the crew that installed my roof was fired. The communication is still atrocious, I still have to call them for everything. So, at this point we still don't have an answer and the roof is still leaking. As far as I know, no crew has looked or worked on my roof at all. Don't do business with C&L Ward unless you enjoy terrible work and employees that couldn't care less. read more

Don't waste your time! We had C&L out for our free siding/gutter estimate on 5/26/17. With a target installation date of 7/21. We got multiple quotes for the same job and materials and they were priced in the middle, although their "retail" price was by far the highest. Roughly one week later, the Project Manager came out for the official measure. We didn't hear from anyone for six weeks so I called them the week our install was to start to verify our timeline. Two days later I finally got a call saying that we needed to talk to our in-home consultant (salesman) before we could move forward. At that time, I was told they underestimated the job and that our materials were not even ordered and we had to agree to a 27% increase to the original quote!! Now, eight weeks later, we are back to square one. They were nice enough to get us our half down deposit back with a rejection letter though! I would never use or recommend C&L to anybody! read more

A gable vent fell of the side of my house. It is terribly disturbing know that you have a hole in your house. I found this company online and called at 8:00 am and they had someone to my house by 10:15. The person who took my call was very nice and worked to accommodate the request. The technician Allen was very professionally and completed the job quickly. The customer service was outstanding. They will be my first call for future projects. read more

The product and materials are satisfactory and the installation crew was very professional. The Customer Service by the "Project Coordinator" was terrible. She coordinated nothing and was the slimiest person I've ever dealt with. I placed my order for a door and two windows and wrote a check on Sept 1st, 2015. I was given an installation date of Nov. 17th. If I hadn't kept calling to press for information, the Project Coordinator, Ali, would never had informed me they had no intention of installing on Nov 17. The door and windows were installed on Dec. 17th. The screen wasn't right and the grills that come with that style weren't ready. So the job was finally complete on Jan 12th, 2016, more than 4 months after the order was placed and the check written. If the installers & product weren't so good I'd give the company no stars at all. read more
