The jewelry selection here isn't wildly exciting to me, but the staff is polite and very helpful, the space is actually WHEELCHAIR-ACCESSIBLE (rare for this island), and the prices are reasonable. There aren't a lot of fine jewelry stores on Martha's Vineyard in general, and certainly not very many that are open year-round at all, so automatically the very existence of this store holds value. I wear a large ring size, so the store offered to have one custom-made for my finger, rather than sizing an existing one that they had at the store, which might've destroyed the integrity of the setting...I'm used to this! It was ready when they said it would be ready (about 6 weeks, which is typical most places in the US, in my experience), and I am very happy with the ring! I wish they had more estate and vintage pieces, but I think they cater to more mainstream tastes than my own. If you're looking for an island pendant or charm in gold or silver, a wedding band or solitaire engagement ring, or other small-scale fine jewelry, this is probably a good place to stop by if you're in Vineyard Haven! read more

The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I feel like when you walk in, the basic customer service can be hit or miss (at least in the summer). BUT once you get the attention of one of the people they are kind and helpful. I bought a MV Island ring a couple years ago and I went last year to the one in Vineyard haven to ask if they could shine the ring. They happily obliged without cost. This year I went to the edgartown location and not only did the manager shine my ring from them but my class ring AND my Alex and ani Harry Potter ring. I was so grateful. I stopped in here after dinner wanting to look at engagement rings. I asked the woman working if they had any moissanite. She proceeded to say that she would "never carry anything moissanite because they were just not at all pretty." That they were "one small step above cubic zirconia, and look really fake when the light hits them because of the rainbow hue." It took me until I left the store to realize how rude and flat out mean she was being. In no way did I return the insults but she continued to hurl them until I left. What if someone had been in the store wearing a moissanite or cubic zirconia? But clearly she didn't care. The impression I got from her was that she was the owner, or one of the owners. That makes this all the more unacceptable. I am not against spending thousands on a harvested diamond, but for me, a lab grown or moissanite are more sustainable for the environment. I don't recommend coming here unless you want to be treated poorly and spoken to in a condescending manner. Spend your money elsewhere and have a much more enjoyable experience! read more

THE place for distinctive island charms in sterling silver or gold. They have fantastic sales all the time, so pay attention. And they are always professional and knowledgeable. Questions welcome at all times. It is especially fun to bring in your own treasured piece of smooth purple wampum or soft sea glass to make into a unique charm which will continuously remind you of some special Vineyard moment. (Great idea for birthday or bridesmaids' gifts.) While they are known for their charms, they also sell fantastic jewelry. My favorite dressy earrings come from C.B. Stark. Just LOVE them. Open year round so extra bonus points. They are famous for a reason. No trip to the Vineyard is complete unless you stop into C.B. Stark. read more

Best jewelery on the island. Known for their beautiful charm bracelets, which feature Vineyard charms like lobster pots and lighthouses. I have a charm of a carousel horse, honoring the Oak Bluffs old fashioned carousel. The coolest thing about CB Stark, as the previous reviewer mentioned, is the ability to bring in sea glass and have them make it into a charm. I was going in to buy my mother a bracelet from this store! My belly ring had fallen out earlier that day, so while I was looking just thought I would ask if the jewelry store sold any. The blonde lady at the counter was extremely rude. Started talking about how she has no piercings or tattoos on her own body ( weird) . Then told me she only sells normal jewelry while laughing. This was all in-front of other customers, so I left and bought a bracelet down the street because I couldn't stand how rude this women was. read more

I have never been to Martha's Vineyard, but I was looking, no searching for a fine jewelers that sold a single seagull pendant in sterling silver. Everything I came across, was either with diamonds, or 2 seagulls. I wanted something simple yet well made. Then I found the CB Stark website & found my single seagull (which to me represents my Grandmother's spirit flying free)...I visit her every year at Bass Harbor Light, Maine, her most favorite place in the world. My brother has even captured me on the rocks with that single seagull flying above me. This necklace was a birthday gift from my parents & I will treasure it always. After reading the other reviews I am thinking of searching for sea glass on our October trip this year & having a bracelet made. SO excited.:) read more

This all started a month and a half ago. I went to CB Starks to get a tray engraved and was told this was possible and they would outsource my request to an off-island engraver. I paid for this work to be done up front based on the price quoted to me. I felt CB Stark was a responsible proprietor having a long history of service here on the island. Not hearing from them after 3 weeks, I checked in on the status of my request and was told that the engraver would not be able to successfully engrave the tray I left them. CB Stark shared if I still wanted the engraving, I'd have to have it done on another type of item, i.e., silver- or silver-plated item. I returned with a silver-plated bowl and was now told I would need to pay additional to ship this item out to the engraver. Again after another two weeks, I had to check again with them as to the status of my request. They shared it was still not yet finished and to check back again in another two weeks. So, after another two weeks I checked and was told it had been received. I went to pick it up and expecting to be given the item after having paid for it, plus shipping. CB Stark shared that additional money would be necessary. Not wanting to cause a scene, I paid the additional money and left. I find my experience with them to be extremely a horrendous customer experience with absolutely no communication whatsoever. I feel for the work requested I was ripped off. Despite their history of reliability, I would not recommend them. CB Stark if you are reading this, I hope you will correct your practices, so someone else will not experience what I did. read more

They are amazing!! I called them about a bracelet that I received 10 years ago to symbolize a future that never happened...I was calling to see if I could send it back so that they could give it to someone on MVY who would want it. It didn't seem right to just give it to Goodwill. Within a few minutes, the wonderful woman got the story and told me to send the bracelet back to her. She's going to snip off the charms that make me sad and put on a new charm to symbolize my new adorable son. She even offered to melt the heart charm into a ball and toss it into the ocean for me! I love their jewelry and visit the store whenever I'm on-island. Now, I love them even more!! They aren't just a vacation spot jewelry store. They are amazing people! read more

I had horrible customer service experience at C B Stark in Vineyard Haven, MA last week. I wanted to buy a charm bracelet, of which I still have not received yet. I had gone online and bought a gift certificate for CB Stark on the martha'svineyardgiftcertificates.com website and printed off the $100 certificate. Well, the clerk was extremely rude, very condensending and basically told me that I made up the gift certificate myself!! I couldn't believe it! She said her manager had never heard of it either. Well, C B Stark is all over the gift certificate website. They told me that they would call me the next day to see if the certificate was valid or not!! Which, of course, it was. They need to learn some customer service skills, I wouldn't buy anything from them again! read more

I am not surprised by the positive reviews here. I once would have been one but now I found myself torn between a 1 or zero, if I could choose zero. One star seems fitting given I have visited CB Stark for more than 2 decades clearly indicating a positive relationship at some point. During that time I have built a beautiful charm bracelet with reflective of more than 30 years of memories on the island. Happy to say that not all of my charms came from them so given the choice of other MV jewelry locations, I will purchase from them moving forward. CB Stark sold me a charm that was unique to their inventory and defective - enamel came off. They replaced it and told me they would again as long as it happened. I was especially impressed by this customer service because this particular charm had significant meaning attached to my wedding on the island a decade earlier. CB Stark replaced the charm once but when it needed replacing a second time, I was told immediately that they would not do it (despite their previous promise). The quick response made me curious about whether others had had the same issue and the store was taking a financial hit or if they simply questioned me. Either way, I felt they were liable. I even had my receipt from the 2 years prior. The sales person lacked empathy, compassion and was simply rude - as was the manager who I was promised would call me yet never did. No apology, no acknowledgment of my years of patronage, or concern about the meaning of the charm to me. Just an offer to swap it out for a charm that cost less and still require me to cover the postage to ship it to my home. I did manage to get that waived via phone but again, the sales person was rude about doing so. Sad that the tradition of buying from CB Stark has to end - my mother has also purchased from them and won't again and just this year, my 9 year old daughter wanted to start her own charm bracelet. I promised her we would at 10, a birthday milestone. But, we won't be visiting CB Stark. There are other options on the island for quality, cute, charms that are often less expensive. I was willing to invest in CB Stark until they stopped caring about my business. Not sure what lense they work through when it comes to customer service but the fact that I have to now wonder is problematic. I will share my experience with my peers and family. I recommend visiting other jewelers on the island who have less of a monopoly or name recognition but still offer good service, quality products and appreciate the business. And, if you must go to CB Stark, be aware of your purchases there - not always the best quality- and make sure you get any agreements in writing. read more
