Hilo Shore Excursion, Volcano National Park, Rainbow Falls Excursion. Gio was awesome and very knowledgeable. He went above and beyond, he made the adventure a fun experience. He gave us an excellent tour and we highly recommend touring with this fantastic company.

We booked The Volcanoes National Park & Waterfall Tour with this company and we're very excited to take the journey. However the tour was very underwhelming. First off the bus that took us, was not conducive to a view. The front window was halfway hidden due to the layout of the bus. We had no views. The company stated they would supply waters, snacks, umbrellas and ponchos. None of that was supplied. We never went to the Orchid Flower Nursery, or the Japanese Gardens. We did however get dropped at a Public Park area that had some Japanese style bridges and ponds. We drove through the town of Hilo, but again did not get to see it very well. The driver was a nice man but he really didn't give us a lot of information and half the time we couldn't hear him because his Mic was off. The air conditioning was up full and we had to ask several times for it to be lowered. Lunch consisted of a 7-11 stop where we got sandwiches and drinks which we ate on the bus. Once we got off the bus to see things we were left to explore usually for 10-15 minutes alone. No guided tour, no information on what we were seeing. The Volcano's aspect was the most underwhelming of all we were expecting to see Lava, but instead saw steam vents and a mini view of the crater from a long distance away. Reminded us of a mini version of the Grand Canyon. The Macadamia Nut Farm is closed and not open to the Public at this time. On the way home we stopped at a Candy Store. We opted to get off the bus at that point even though he was taking us to see "The Blank Sand Beach" which he said was ten minutes outside the town of Hilo. We decided to skip because we were expecting the Black Sand Beach on the south of the island and considering how awful the whole tour was, we decided that this beach would be also. This Tour was promoted as something it is not. We were extremely disappointed considering we drove from Kona to Hilo to take this tour. 1hr45min. We wasted our money. So frustrating. I really hesitated about writing a negative review, I don't like to do it. But, I feel others on the tour felt the same as we did and were not prepared for the underwhelming experience. Be warned!!

Friendly guide. Poor vehicle for sight-seeing. Questionable sites. One of the sites was seeing lava in a lady's backyard.

Keep in mind there is no snorkeling on this excursion and the area around the Hilton is not safe or appropriate for snorkeling. I am writing the review solely on the lava field excursion part. My wife was very dissapointed that there was no snorkeling as we purchased new snorkeling equipment. Roxy was our tour guide and was probably the most knowledgeable and professional tour guide we have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Roxy was knowledgeable in the history of volcanoes on Hilo and elsewhere, horticulture, bird species, animals, Hawaiian culture, tourist attractions, history of the Hawaiian Islands, tribes and Capt. Cook, beaches, teachings, burial practices and so much more. Roxy told stories of the early days in Hawaii and how it evolved. Also as a noted her driving and safety practices were impeccable. If you are planning to come to Hilo you must make it a point to reach out to Roxy. We spent approximately 8 hours on the tour and it was so enriching although the lack of snorkeling was a dissapointment . Highly recommended Mahalo

The "Japanese garden" was built to honor the early Japanese sugar cane plantation immigrants who played a massive role in Hawaiʻi's economy and society. I've been to other Japanese gardens (not in Hawai'i) so I was actually a bit shocked at how plain or underwhelming this was. It felt like a simple park with a lake with a couple of architectural Japanese bridges. There's a koi pond too and a couple of lanterns. Overall still a nice place to stroll and to admire and take in nature. We didn't stay too long because it was overly hot thought. We didn't really know where to park but I think there's street parking you can find.

Let's keep it simple…read more The below website link has all the information you could possibly want or need about the history/what you're going to see/map/volunteer information and more for the gardens. www.liliuokalanigardens.org/ The best summary I can give is this. The gardens are free. They are tranquil and they are beautiful. There is little to no issue with parking except for on the weekends when it was definitely busier but overall, there seemed to always be spaces either on Banyan Drive or on Lihiwai Street along the water. The only real small negative would be that some of the trails and walkways do washout and/or flood over due to the excessive amount of rain Hilo has gotten this year (and that was pre-Lala). If you're in the area or staying in Hilo, this is a nice stop whether for ten minutes or an hour.
