Rocket Dog's adoption process is fairly simple. While it costs a bit of money, the money pays for initial shots and neuter/spay. They ensure the dog will be in good health and has been taken care of while waiting their turn. Our rescue Lola was approx five years old and was found wandering the streets. Lucky for us she came already potty trained and knew how to play fetch. That was a bonus! As is the case with some chihuahuas, It took some time before she 100 percent trusted us, probably longer than normal. But with some time and a lot of patience she has turned out to be a wonderful addition to our family. There are opportunities to foster dogs if you're so inclined and they can always use more volunteers. They have morning and evening shifts and you can also volunteer at their community adoption clinics. It's been known to happen that a volunteer adopts a dog. I think it happens a lot! They take care of all the early animal care - each of my pets had been spayed/neutered and had received all of their early vaccines - this would ordinarily cost a LOT had it not been taken care of by OAS! For example they have instagram pages for the senior dogs and the rabbits to help promote them more. Please consider fostering or adopting from OAS! And please know that the crisis of animals in needs is not the fault of rescues and shelters, it's the fault of breeders and buyers who keep exploiting animals for profit. As the saying goes "don't breed or buy, while shelter animals die" Separately from fostering, I do mutual aid with some unhoused folks and their dogs. One friends dog who I had gotten spayed ended up getting hit by a car and thankfully OAS received her body and was able to contact us so that her guardian could have closure and we could honor her life properly. It's not an easy job that OAS is doing, but they are saving lives in an ongoing crisis of abused and unwanted animals.

You sign up before you arrive and check in at the lobby sign in kiosk. They do require masks at this time, but do provide you with extra masks and gloves if you do forget yours. Before your shift, you do a temperature check/screening outside which is very easy and non invasive. Parking is safe. A gated lot with tons of security cameras and volunteers in the parking lot at all times. With outdoor tent eating area. Tasks include sorting fruits/veggies and bagging them for transport. Organizing boxes ect. A task for everyone. The volunteers are all very helpful and nice. And at the end of your shifts you can see how much meals you provided. Shifts are 3 hours each. Once you get to the location, park all the way in the back, to the right side, then enter through the door. Once you enter, you'll be greeted, write your name on a name tag, then you'll check in on the computers, and they'll lead you to a room where they'll introduce you to the ACCFB, talk a little bit about the history, safety, etc. They also have lockers if you want to put your bag inside, and they have a break area where you can leave your water bottles, etc. The restroom is also clean as well! For the volunteering portion, I bagged apples & potatoes, and also assembled the giant cardboard boxes to fill up the produce and fruits in. It is super fun and you get a 15 minute break in between. This is a great location to do this solo, with family/friends, or even with work! There are lead volunteers around to help you with anything you may need. At the end, they'll recap how many pounds of foods were pack and how many meals will be served to the community. It is such a wonderful place to volunteer and I know it won't be my last time coming here!

Decided to try out this Goodwill for the first time, with a car load of donations, glassware, cooking items, small appliances, clothes and other miscellaneous. I was pleasantly surprised at how friendly and warm the volunteer there was who helped me unload. He was great, and for the first time in a long time at any of these types of places he said THANK YOU and I really felt he meant it. It made it all worth the cross town drive, and deciding to donate instead of doing a yard sale or trying to sell things on line. Great job GoodWill.

A quaint store with good lighting and friendly staff, this thrift shop isn't big but does curate a nice little collection - I saw cute tops, dresses, scarves, handbags, and jewelry. Everything was tidy and in its right place. I'm not sure if there's a dressing room since I didn't use one, but there are plenty of mirrors around the store that you can use. Bonus: all proceeds go towards their affiliated animal rescue! I picked up a patterned skirt and T-shirt here for less than $20, and my friend got a few items as well. Checking out was easy breezy, and they let us know that they're able to take most donations (though if you have anything large, best to call in ahead of time). It gets hot and there are no fitting rooms, so you have to wear something light to both keep cool and be able to try on clothes. There's also a no return policy which is kinda upsetting since there's no fitting rooms to try on the clothes. The space in between the racks is good, so two people can pass by without bumping into each other.
