Please bring back the cookie butter ice cream from Mooville. It was the best ice cream I've ever had!!!!!

I was here recently for some ice cream. I tried the amaretto cherry chocolate, the bear claw, and the lemon. They were all very good. I will say that they need to make sure that they are removing the ice crystals from some of the ice cream, as it is not appetizing to look at. The credit card reader does not let you add tips so bring cash if you want to tip the kids. I stopped in some time ago to try some of the new bakery products, not great. I tried the individual chocolate cake and a dry brownie. Neither were great. This was about $14. Trying to get these two pastries seemed to cause some confusion amongst the staff. Probably do not leave a new girl at the register who has no idea what you sell or what is going on. It is nice to have kids working there but there should be someone around who knows what is going on. You staff should know what products you sell so don't leave them at the register before they have any clue what you even offer. And there are not a lot of bakery items to even review with them. Can't go wrong with a giant ice cream and coffee shop! A huge selection of ice cream, including dairy and vegan flavors. I tried their Fruit Salad smoothie, which had a splash of coconut milk, a fruit sorbet, and fresh fruit. It was very refreshing and not too sweet! Perfect to sip on while walking along the beach. Great ice cream! We came on a Friday night at sunset and it was very busy. The staff did a great job of keeping the line moving. They have lots of flavors to choose from, even vegan options. I tried the strawberry pretzel in a waffle cone. They also have kid sizes. read more

Service was lackluster including daydreaming teenager who then put his entire head of gorgeous hair ...without hat or hairnet ... into the freezer while scooping. i mentioned to the manager who shrugged and said we've had this place 17 years and never worn hairnets. ummm why are other people pinning hair back and wearing hats then? also eewww. watch out for hair in your ice cream folks! Great ice cream for a hot day! The line was out the door but moved pretty quickly. One person takes your order and hands it off to get scooped. I got the classic cookies and cream with hot fudge and it was delicious! They do have plenty of flavors to choose from. Walk up those majestic stairs from Silver Beach towards downtown St Joe and chances are you'll see a like straight ahead. It's most likely for Cabanas. A great ice cream/cafe/candy shop located in the heart of downtown. On a Friday night towards the end of summer, there was a queue stretching towards the door. The two employees scooping ice cream were working hard and everyone in line was ready to order so the line moved pretty quickly. Impressive given their massive selection of flavors! We shared a double scoop (~$6 out the door) with pistachio almond and carrot cake--you read that right. Both were super delicious. Stopped here twice in one day - first stop was for a coffee pick me up and the second was for ice cream. The short version - coffee was no good - while ice cream was good. It is a good location - right in the middle of town. Very cute decor inside with lots of airy space. The staff is not great - we visiting during the summer, so I am not sure if they were college or high school students? But no one was that friendly or helpful and it looked like it was mandatory they worked there based on their attitude. There were a ton of options from coffee, ice cream, smoothies, Hawaiian ice, snacks (brownies, muffins, cookies, popcorn). There was a menu for coffee flavor add-ins, but the worker had no idea if all the flavors were in stock or not. So it was a guessing game for me if they had the flavors available? The coffee was terrible. I love coffee and can drink pretty much anything but this ice coffee was gross. I asked for Hazelnut flavor and was told they only have sugar free, so I went with vanilla flavoring. I could not even finish the coffee because it had such a strange taste especially after-taste. We came back later in the day, an hour or so before closing. Pretty busy with everyone wanting a sweet treat. Again, the workers were blasé and uninterested in much of anything. There were a ton of ice cream and even some non-dairy options. I went with a kids' cone since it allowed you two flavors - 2-for-1! The ice cream was very good and rich. I've tried to stop by the last 2 days and they have not been open either time. It says they are open until 9pm. I went at 7pm on Tuesday evening and the doors were closed and lights off. Holy cow their ice cream is amazing. We visited two nights in a row with the family. We loved the espresso hand dipped ice cream. Try it in a shake you'll be amazed. It tastes just like a Frappuccino. The shop has so many ice cream flavors to choose from plus several different soft serve flavors. They even have a gluten-free and dairy free section. While checking out, check out their candy section. After you buy your ice cream head over to the hill just above Silver Beach and watch the sunset. read more

The high schooler types working here are practically the friendliest in the USA. I'd know - since I've been to almost all of it. I have "trying-different-things all summer long" memories of being chased down to eat free watermelon slices there (somewhere along waterfront) and free ice cream scoops here (at this exact spot). Cabanas is one of many ice cream shops available downtown. While it's not the only place it's definitely the least crowded which I can appreciate as a socially anxious human. I enjoy grabbing actual food here as well. I used to enjoy their pizza and grilled cheese, though I tend to just go for ice cream now a days. I'm a big fan of the s'more ice cream and all their gelato favors. My husband, best friend and nephew have all come here with me and we always enjoy ourselves. I really enjoy the decor and general ambiance of this place. The employees are always chill and quick to help customers. This is the perfect spot for some delicious treats. read more

This is a super cute ice cream shop with lots of flavors and tons of candy. I chose it specifically because they have vegan options, but when I visited they only had sorbet one of which was all melted. Love that they have non-dairy/vegan options besides sorbets! I was super excited to try the cappuccino espresso bean and waited in a long line only to find out they were out. I had the vegan Sugar Cookie instead and it was good. They were out of a lot of the posted flavors (regular and vegan) so I wish they would update their flavors as they run out since the line to order is so long. I think it would also make the line go faster because people could have their order ready based on what's currently available rather than taking time to change their order once they are finally waited on and told their flavor is out. If I could sum up my experience at Cabanas in one word, it would be YUM! After spending the day on the beach, and walking around all the little shops, something cold and tasty was just what I was looking for! Cabanas offered ice cream, gelato and other chilled treats! The first thing I noticed was just how many options there were to choose from. I went with the mint chocolate chip ice cream in a waffle cone and it was an excellent choice! My hubby had the chocolate chip cookie dough and loved it! Cabanas doesn't have an abundance of seating, but it also didn't feel crammed. It had a very whimsical, ice cream parlor feel to it and also offered outdoor seating at picnic tables. Most of the staff was younger, but all very polite and helpful. I stopped in here with my fam to get us all some ice cream and was a little disappointed when the worker didn't listen to me about what I'd like. I was given an overturned ice cream cone in a cup shoved on top of whipped cream. Ummmmmm not sure what the person was thinking, but it's not like I was going to complain about it, but still, when someone says they'd like whipped cream and a cherry on top, don't flip it over in a cup (see photo). Stopped by on the 5th of July for my husband's birthday and the door was locked. The sign on the door said it was closing early for employee appreciation night, but the door was locked prior to the time listed on the sign. Their menu was an overwhelming amount of flavors! I wanted to try them all. I got a fudge brownie soft served in a waffle cone, and my husband got a two scoop mixed flavors in a cup. Hands down the most soft served flavors I have ever seen, and it was not expensive. (I'm also a Chicago girl experiencing the low sales tax of Michigan!) The service was exceptional. Was there for breakfast. We were group of 6. We ordered 2 wraps and 2 sandwiches. Took us 6 six times going in and out repeating our orders, 6 times! And 40 min later to get our order. The staff is incompetent, could care less about doing the a proper job. Only by the 4 time did they think to write down our order and yet came out 2 more times because they took the wrong notes. Up to this point we had been the only people in the cafe. We still ended up paying for items we never received. After waiting long enough we left without our food. As we were leaving I advised one of the waitresses to take notes from the beginning as it's a simple task all restaurants do to eliminate chaos, to which she replied " were not A restaurant we're a cafe".
