We decided to have our anniversary lunch a day late at The Brick House because my husband requested it and we both had the afternoon off work. The typical parking lot was fenced off so we had to utilize the street parking nearby. We were told to choose a seat and they'd be right with us. They only opened at 11am, at by the time we got there around 12:30 it was starting to fill up a bit already. My husband got the "in a van down by the river" cocktail, which I tasted, and we both agreed was delicious. For our appetizer, which we had never ordered one before from this establishment, we got the Wisconsin cheese curds. The sauce it came with reminds me of a good sauce for onion rings and was just as amazing on the cheese curds (it was called Sunny ranch I believe). We both got our usual entrees, my husband ordered a double smash burger and I got the atomic punk sandwich, both of which came with fries. My husband devoured his food, while my anxiety basically required me to wait until we got home to eat. I would definitely recommend stopping by The Brick House and grabbing a bite to eat. I went with my niece for lunch and we both ordered salads. I had the Green Goddess and she had the Loco Chicken salad. Super fresh, generous portion, house made dressings. Chicken was perfectly grilled and tender. Lots of sandwich and appetizer options to try next time! It was a bit busy and took a minute to place our order, but to be fair, our server did ask us once but we weren't ready at that time. We then set our menus on the edge of the table to signal we were ready, but still took several minutes. Which was actually ok as my niece and l were catching up! Server was very nice. Whoa! TASTY! Another lunch in Michigan with the in-laws. We selected a table, and were greeted by our waitress. Menus were provided (nice and big, lots of options). I ordered their Fair Warning which came with fries. My wife ordered their Mean Street, which came with Au Jus and tasty fries. The kids menu has such titles as "I Don't Know" (Chicken tenders), "I Don't Want That" (Grilled Cheese) and "I'm Not Hungry" (single Smash Burger). The Classic Smash Burger did not disappoint--juicy patty, melty American cheese, tangy pickles, grilled onion, and that signature brick sauce on a soft brioche bun. Our server, Sam, was excellent--attentive, friendly, and kept everything moving. Meals came out quickly without feeling rushed. We took our family to The Brick House today. All I can say is hands down, this restaurant's is amazing!! The food was so good. I had a green goddess salad and omg was it so good. Y hubby got a double smash burger and he said it was delicious!! My mother-in-law and one son got the Call Me a Doctor Monti Cristo. They said it was so good! Buffalo chicken dip, Little Dreamer eggplant veg sammich, and Somebody Call a Doctor Monte Christo; that last one was an INCREDIBLE take on that classic. No one does MC's anymore so try it! Read all the "great" reviews about this place and finally decided to go here for lunch. What a disappointment! We opted for some specials but were regretting it when our bill came. Always thought specials were specials to get people in the door not to get people to not come back. We could have gone to Perry's Steakhouse (yes I know there's none in Benton Harbor or near) for WAY less and had a fantastic Friday lunch with more drinks. Our bill was $72'ish and almost a $4 service charge added on. For what? Having the pleasure of eating at your establishment and getting gouged with mediocre food. Really 3 1/2 stars. We had a HUGE group that just kept growing, and Kelly was able to accommodate us. We were 23 kids and 20 adults with separate checks. The staff never seemed frazzled. They were mostly friendly and worked very well together. The menu is small but the options are interesting, the quality is good and it's presented well. That smashburger was legit one of the best I've ever had. The special sauce was amazing the burger itself was juicy yet smashed, with crispy edges. Delish! The Brick House, in Benton Harbor, Michigan, is a fun pub in the heart of the downtown Arts District, serving up top shelf meals and cocktails. It IS a bar, but it's definitely restaurant/food focused and totally family-friendly. Perusing the menu, I noticed all the sandwiches were named after Van Halen song titles. The fun meal names continued with the kids' menu which includes "I Don't Know," "I Don't Want That," and "I'm Not Hungry." We began with a "Lillian Board," named after the owner's late grandmother. It's The Brick House version of a charcuterie board but features Michigan-made Polish sausage... a tribute to Grandma Lillian's Polish heritage. The sausage is sliced and seared, then served with spicy mustard, a side of house-made pimento cheese, toasted bread, and cornichon pickles. The sausage is not smoked like some polish sausage, allowing you to taste the savory flavors of garlic and what I think is marjoram. I had never had homemade pimento cheese spread, and it was fantastic. I would take a tub home with me if they sold it like that. Next up from the appetizer section were the best frickin' fried pickles I've ever had, which are cleverly called "Frickles!" They come sliced, breaded and flash fried. Unlike most fried pickles, these maintain a nice crisp crunch. The seasoning is on point with some fresh cracked pepper zip, and the Brick Sauce served for dipping is outstanding. You'll find this secret sauce in several of the Brick House signature dishes. "The Atomic Punk" is an elevated grilled ham and cheese sandwich. The buttery, creamy taste of Brie cheese brings the other ingredients together, which includes fresh spinach, honey mustard and get this...apple slices! Who comes up with concoctions like this? The sweet and crunch of the apple slices are certainly unique and delightfully contrasts the saltiness of the ham. We sampled a couple cocktail creations too. The "In a Van Down by the River" cocktail was a huge hit for all of us. It's grapefruit vodka with fresh lime, soda and a jalapeño slice. The jalapeño is very subtle with only a trace of heat, however the longer it steeps, the more the spice kicks in. Lastly, I smashed my face into the "Smash Burger" prepped with American cheese, pickles, grilled onion, and more Brick Sauce. The perfectly steamed brioche bun could barely contain it all. Benton Harbor has some pretty amazing burger joints, and everybody seems to have a strong opinion, but there is definitely a new contender in the Benton Harbor burger debate. The fries are natural-cut, leaving the skins which lend an earthy, savory flavor that I enjoy...you know, fries that actually taste like potatoes. My wife wants to come back and next time order the " Unchained" crispy chicken sandwich. The pickled jalapenos and Brick Sauce-infused slaw sounds yummy. Oh, and make sure to save room for "Judy's Chocolate Cake!" I'd say the Brick House is Rockin'! read more
