Tyler spent nearly 2 hours with me making sure everything was perfect, even taking the time to adjust each component multiple times. He was incredibly patient while teaching me proper technique that it was obvious he had worked with many others as well. Last Cabela's gun purchase. Drove 30 minutes, arrived with CPL for prepaid on-line item pick up on a Thursday at 7PM. Gun counter understaffed. 4 guys working and 15 people ahead of me. Browsed the store for the next hour. Prices 30% higher than on-line competition after paying shipping to the house. My number was called at 8:32. Transaction completed at 9PM. Drove 30 minutes home. The $20 I saved buying their sale item wasn't worth the wasted time. No more Cabela's for me. read more

I have been here a few times and each time has been a terrible experience. I feel like the customer service needs to be re-evaluated a bit and should be a little bit more of a focus. Take pride in the products sold and time to learn and be knowledgeable about them. I had been a regular here and just since Jan 2018 I have spent over $2000.00 here. Not kidding, I was outfitting my new boat with accessories. Today needed to return a transom saver I bought two days prior and had never opened. The customer service guy was not at all friendly and ask if it had "ever" been used. I told him no, clearly it was not opened. He did the most thorough exam I have ever seen. Spun it around twice. One of the stickers had a hole in it where the store hung it up. He picked at the torn sticker and gave me a real funny look then asked again, did you use this. Okay I understand you have No idea what this is or how it's used but clearly it is in the pack with all plastic and tape untouched. He actually went to round three with a "so you never opened it" yes I was pissed at this point. He did return my money- actually points on my Cabela's card. Hint to Cabela's - if I have over $100 in points I am a frequent flyer here. Maybe a thank you for your business or a "have a nice day" this guy was just cold. Sorry my business interrupted your day. Being stationed in California makes opportunities to go to Cabela's a treat. I was outfitted for a compound bow here a few years ago and came by recently to check out their cold weather gear. The store is fairly large and has a great selection. Really thought their gun library was well stocked. Recommended for your hunting and camping supplies. read more

This was my first time to the store and Was happy to find very helpful staff, and some of the best prices for hunting equipment I have found. At the time of checkout they made me aware of coupons that were not online that save me $20 I would definitely recommend this store. read more

They never have any products in stock but offer to order them for me. If I wanted to order something without seeing it I would have done so from the comfort of my living room. I ordered several products which went on sale 3 days after purchasing them. I called to request a refund of the difference which they would not do. So I returned my original order and reordered it at the lower price. As I sit here writing this I've been on hold with them for 15 minutes but they just pick up the phone and out you on hold. It is really nice to see Cabela's come to the area. The store is smaller than I am used to but it does have most all of what I would need. It is kind of tough traffic-wise at times but easy enough to get in and out of. We are sure to be back. read more

I had purchased a birthday gift of moccasin style slippers for my wife, which was inadvertently damaged prior to purchase. This was of no fault of the store, and would have been easily missed, as it took until getting home for us to realize they were damaged. I then took the slippers back to the store to exchange them, and then came the reason for this 5 star review. Upon entering the store, the greeter promptly directed me to the returns area, where I waited in line behind 2 other customers. Within 3 minutes I was helped, with a friendly face and good attitude. The clerk took my exchange item and directed me to where I could find a replacement. I asked if she needed id or a card to ensure I was the correct person when I came back, and she assured me she'd remember me. Upon finding a suitable replacement, I waited, again for less than five minutes, and was able to have the same clerk help me quickly and efficiently, requiring only a signature from me, no card swipe or extra verification. The door greater thanked me for coming in and wished me a good day. This experience could have taken forever, and been a disappointment, but instead the experience, and exceptional customer service made me want to return as a customer. read more

The cashier we dealt with tonight was the worse we have ever had. She was less than professional. I have a Cabela's card and when I swiped the card the screen had no display. I asked why is it doing. She said You have to swipe the card very rudely.. I said I did twice did it a 3rd time. I said oh well I will use my MasterCard. I swiped it, it pops up debit card. I said no it has to be credit how do I do that? again very rudely Kelli said you have to hit the button. At that point I said WOW maybe I don't want to drop a few hundred on a couple fishing poles.. Her attitude changed quick when I said I will get online and send my complaints. Kelli is NOT a good asset to the Cabela's company.. Time to go to Tackle Warehouse. read more

Went to Cabela's in Grandville Dec 9th 5pm with flier in wife's hand & some merchandise in my hand. Went to the counter wanting to buy 2 scopes for my boys who are stationed in Texas. Stood by these scopes for 48 minutes with NOBODY coming by. NOTE : It was NOT even busy... I asked a guy who worked on the floor if he could show me the scope I wanted but he said that was not his department. I said you are standing here by the ammo which goes into the gun that the scope sits on. But said again could not help me. There was a group of employees behind the counter to the right of me where it appeared you would do the final transaction on a purchased gun. Got there attention once & they said... just a minute. Never happened. Was just about ready to give up & a salesman walked by who was behind the counter. I said SIR.. He must not have heard me so I said SIR a lot louder. He just looked at me & I said I would like to look at this here scope. His exact statement... I am helping customers with a ticket. I said I am a customer & I want to look at this fricking scope!!! He pointed to the ticket machine. I saw the ticket machine over on the counter & I knew it was there. I just thought it was for people who was buying guns & did not realized that ticket was for the entire area. For that matter I knew the # on the serving customer display said 62. The #62 never changed the entire time we were there. I was done took my flier wadded it up gave it to him. Took the merchandise that I was going to buy left it on the floor & told him a few choice words of what I thought of him & there service. I know these reviews go nowhere there will be people that will defend this store & Blaaa Blaa Blaa. But the last few times I went here In Grandville & also in Dundee. Both the stores have been limited on help & I constantly have been told when asking about bow supplies that I could not locate prior during & after the season. Oh you can find them on line. I'm actually done with this big chain store that is over priced & the employee's well I'm sure there are a lot of good ones that do work there but lately they have been far & few in between. Stopped in on Black Friday and with an exception of the wait to be helped at the gun counter (2-1/2 hours, able to go get dinner and come back with plenty of time), had a great experience. Alan, Tom, the nice lady at the gun payment counter and the young gentleman with dark framed glasses at the check out counter where I bought my gift card were all extremely helpful and turned around the experience. I've been a Cabela's customer for 40 years & since Dick Cabela died then it was sold the service is gone IMHO. Ordered 3 rifles, 2 took 2 months & 1 was quick so went to get them & got grilled by Al in the Grand Rapids store, rude maybe because I'm in a wheelchair? A friend bought a new rifle that after we tried it out found it was used. I'll never shop there again. Try calling & you'll never get the gun counter. The best service is internet pickup but they might as well quit selling guns. Maybe Al's really an anti gunner I don't know but I'm done. I called John the manager with no call back so I guess he doesn't care either. Really sad IMHO. read more

I visited the Grandville store today and I was assisted immediately by a helpful employee who was very knowledgeable about the locations of the items I was seeking, however they did not have two of the three items in stock even though the website said they did. I was rather disappointed that I drove an hour + one way not to get what I wanted when the website said they had it. I ended up getting a substitute brand for one item, at least it wasn't a total waste of time. The store was very busy being a Saturday and I found the customer service to be excellent, unlike many other reviewers. I only give them three stars because of the discrepancy between the website information and what they actually had on the shelves. read more

I own a mineral company that makes minerals for deer and elk. We purchase all of our trail cameras from the Grandville Mi store. I had a very disappointing personal experience concerning trying to get a bowstring installed on my personal bow. I called the store and asked if they could install a new bowstring on my compound bow, I was told they could. I went and dropped of my bow and did not receive a claim check. I was called a day later saying they could not install a bowstring on my bow and I have to send it in to Hoyt because they don't carry the proper string. I asked if they could order the string needed and install it, I am happy to pay for any extra charges. I was told no, I needed to come pick up my bow and send it to Hoyt for the string to be put on. I went back to the store a few days later to pick up my bow. I met Scott from the archery dept and asked for my bow. I told him I was very disappointed that Cabela's could put a new string on my bow and then told a day later to come pick it up and that I had to send it in to the manufacture to have it replaced. Scott told me in a very rude tone, not to give him attitude and he did not owe my any explanations. I let him know I did not appreciate his rude behavior and tone and asked to see a manager. He said GO FIND ONE!! I or my company will never do business here again. I will instead go to the mom and pop sporting goods stores for all my business and personal needs, they will appreciate my business. Cabela's advertises that they price match other companies, as long as they are "brick and mortar". Meaning they have an actual building that they sell in, and are not just online stores. I asked a gentleman at the gun counter to price from a store that met all price match policies. After a long wait, he came out with his manager who explained they would not match the price. I asked why and was told that they would make less than a dollar on the sale. I have been a loyal Cabela's customer for years, buying everything from guns, to clothing, to camping equipment. I am horribly dissatisfied with the service I received. If a store does not want price match, that is their right. However, do not advertise that you do, yet only decide to when it is convenient for you. read more

I tried four times to call a department today to check on an item's availability, and four times it rang for over 6 minutes before it automatically hung up on me. BEWARE if your looking for a Gun Safe. We went to the store several times looking at their selection before we were able to get someone to help us and answer our questions. They have a delivery company, In The Nick of Time, that will deliver the safe for a very large fee. We purchased our safe, called In The Nick of Time to set up delivery. The scheduling person told us we had to take pictures and measurements of the door/stairs before they could schedule a delivery, so we did as asked and emailed them the info. They called and set up delivery for a couple of weeks out. Came yesterday to deliver the safe and the delivery people took one look at the stairs to the basement and said we can't deliver the safe down these. Then proceeded to tell me that if they had know it was outside stairs he would have know right off it wouldn't fit. Then they charged me $150 to stop by and tell me they can't deliver my new safe. Cabela's is going to charge me a return fee so it going to cost me $175-$200 to NOT get a new Gun Safe. What a rip. They had all of the information before they scheduled the delivery, just an easy $150 for them. I wonder if the Safe was even on the Truck, I never saw it. read more

I have been saving my "points" to purchase a new gas grill. To replace one purchase about 5 years ago from the same location. We wandered around the store looking for gas grills and found none. We asked 2 sales people if they knew if the store still carried grills. Both of them wandered around the store looking just like we had. They clearly had no clue if the store carried them or not. We finally found a gentleman that was familiar with the gas grills and were informed that they only now carry their own brand and no longer carried the major brands. We chose not to purchase the Cabelas Mr Steak grill based on the low ratings. As we were walking out of the store we noticed some kayaks out front on sale. We had been discussing purchasing a few for the cottage so we went back into the store. We went to the marine section and grabbed a few paddles and 4 life vest and proceeded to the check out. We inquired at the check out about purchasing 2 of the kayaks out front of the store. We were told that we needed to go back to the marine department to get a ticket for the purchase. Once again I found 2 sales people that knew nothing about how to get this "golden" ticket to allow us to purchase kayaks. I waited for around 15 minutes and decided to leave. I went back to the check out and the nice girl said that she had found the tickets and was able to ring me out. We finally checked out and were told that someone would meet us out front of the store to assist us. 10 minutes later the guy meets us out front. I asked "are you the guy that is going to assist us with the kayaks?" He answered that he was. I then stated that I would have just grabbed them myself if they were not cabled and locked. That is when he decided that he would need a key! We had 45 minutes into purchasing 2 kayaks. I have spent less time in signing for a house or buying a car. Our visit previous to last night was our annual trip with our family when we let everyone including the grand children help us use up our saved points. The store used to have a nice selection of children's adventure type toys and clothes. They toy selection is down to one small rack and the children's clothing selection is one side of one shelf system. We have decided to drop our Cabela's Visa and change to something with frequent flier miles. I don't care to get Cabelas points any longer. And typically we accumulate around $3000 to $5000 points a year. read more

The service at this location is ridiculous it takes 20 minutes for the operator to answer the phone and no matter what department you get transfer to it will be over an hour to get that department to answer the phone I don't understand how a place was such careless management of time can stay in business. read more

Hi went on grand opening, had my hand on a brick of 22 shells, worker grabbed it about a half second after me and pulled it from me, I said Im going to buy that brick, which he said, and I quote, not this brick, I'm going to split it, and opened it up, and gave me a 50 round box, which I said no thanks, and put it in his shirt pocket. Prices are to high! Talked to them about the lure prices, and they just gave me a political answer. I could get this certain lure I like all day at Gander Mountain for $3.99, they were 7 bucks. But they did help ruin the prices here now, because Cabelas came down to 6 bucks, but Gander went up to$5.50. Now the best part, where I work we hired two employees from them, after talking to them what happened to me they said this happened all the time. I found a reel that was $200 and it was on sale for $86, not going to (Carry it any more,) talked to salesman about it and he said we could do better, he found one in Idaho for $46, I said send it. When it came in, they called on Tues. but I had to wait until Sat. to pick up. When I got there, they told me they called and said that I said I don't want any more and put it in the bargain bin, which guess what, I don't own it. That was enough, I went back to my Bass Pro credit card and never looked back. And besides if the general public would look at prices, BPS is on the average cheaper. This could be why Cabelas could be looking to sell out, so far I have read in two money magazines, and news papers about it. Yes you have beautiful stores but, all I need is less frills and better prices. I did not get into the two people I caught stealing and they did nothing, because they did not want a scene and maybe have bad publicity. read more
