    Howl-O-Ween party 2009

Yay for dog parks in Montgomery County! Now if only there were Doggie Bars my little pal and I would both be lushes. My guy had a great time socializing with dozens of pint-sized pooches today. The park had their "official " Grand Opening celebration with a Howl-O-Ween party today from 9-12pm. It was a blast to see so many doggies in disguise. My pooch peed on his costume (I think on purpose) so he didn't stay in it for long. Without it on it made it easier for him to chase his new friends around the naturally landscaped grounds for small pooches (under 20 lbs.). The adjoining fenced in area is for the big boys and girls and was packed with excited pooches. The park is FREE and opened regular park hours, sunrise to sunset. However, it is closed from 9-11 am every Tuesday for weekly maintenance. Your well socialized four-legged best friend will love it here and so will you.

Cabin John is our favorite dog park in the area by far. It's great that there's a separate section for small dogs - I believe the cut off is 25 pounds or so. Really awesome spot for your dog to run around and meet some friends!

This place is great for dogs. With the trees, rock agility feature, water faucet, and large space it really was great for my two dogs. They ran so much with the other dogs they'll sleep for days. People seem very respective to pickup poop and also attentive if an issue arises between two dogs. Out of the numerous parks in the DMV area this is one of the best ones I've found.

Great location, we went today and the exercise area was super clean. Waste bags accessible all around the park. Pathways to the area was very clean and safe. Lots of parking and the 'small dog' area was quite big. Water fountains were working and clean water was available. There's also tables to sit and a dog climbing area. Big open spaces for dogs to run around and play. Even the areas at the far end where dogs go do their business was clean. I highly recommend this place for your pets if you're in the area!

I have a new puppy and need to introduce socializing. After her shots and okay from the vet, I decided to Yelp dog parks. This one had great reviews. I will agree, the people who I came in contact with are pleasant and dogs seem to play well with others. For pet owners an overhead cover with benches as well as sitting stones by the climbing area. It's a no-leash park! Nice. One side is for 20 lbs. below and the other side are for over 20 lbs. The place was clean and there was enough room for running around and a high fence seperates the two areas; dogs can interact through the fence. They also have a "Mutt Mitt" station to help with any clean ups. The place also has a climbing station on both sides for additional exercise. I really enjoyed my first dog park experience here. I will come back for sure!

This is MAKAVELI in the Big dog area today.

Great dog park! Very spacious with plenty of room for large dogs to run. Lots of dogs there for my boy to play with. Poop bags and trash cans on hand, clean park. The one suggestion I have is to add more of the wood chips/shavings to help with the mud. There was plenty by the gate but not farther back into the dog park and we left muddy. Overall great experience and he's happy so I'm happy too!! We will be back.

    Small dog park

I just adopted my rescue dog about a month ago and have been trying to socialize him with other dogs. I read great things about Cabin John Dog Park on Yelp and they're all true! Since I've only been to this dog park, I can't compare it to any other ones so I'll list what I like about it. -separate areas for small and large dogs. This is a must if you want to protect your small and slow moving dog from the more active and larger dogs. -lots of space! Both sides have trees, shrubs and shaded sitting areas for the dog parents -lots of free parking -free poop bags -a double gate to prevent dogs from escaping -attentive and friendly people This is a great use of my Maryland tax money! :)

Can't see why anyone would give the less than 5-stars. It has a fantastic dog park, great playgrounds and open areas to hang out on. There's also a ton of parking. Everyone we bumped into and talked with was also really friendly!

    Big smiles!

Ask the Community - Cabin John Dog Park

How muddy does this place get the day after a heavy rain?

Very muddy for the next few days. I'd recommend bringing in a towel or a roll of paper towel for your pup. Wear dark pants and a pair of shoes you don't mind getting mud all over. I always give my dogs a quick bath after coming back from the park.

I just moved to the area and have noticed that some dog parks charge for admission. Does Cabin John charge for entry?

No, this dog park is completely free.

Pros of this dog park:…read more * The parking lot has never been full full to the point where I can't park * It's very close to my home (I know this is super subjective, but it's a huge pro for me) * There is a plentiful amount of benches for seating inside the park * There are two distinct areas to the park. One is a gravely are that is super long and narrow. The other is a grassy area that is open from April - November. The grassy area ( you can barely see from the parking lot) is where a majority of the dogs hang out I've noticed. There is even a small pavilion in this grassy area that benches for seating. And this grassy area is HUGE. If you want to really throw the ball with your dog and have your dog run around a big space, this grassy area is just for you. * There are multiple bag stations and several trash cans * Everyone I've met there is SO SO nice and I've definitely made some quick friends with some awesome peeps. Cons of this dog park: *They need to take the poop trash bags out of the trashcans more regularly. The past few times i've been... the smell was quite atrocious. And when the wind blows... well... it might be the only time where I'm hoping it's not a breezy day. *There's no separate area for smaller dogs. So if you have a wee tike of a dog, just know that there will be much bigger dogs running around that could possibly knock into your little one. Definitely a super solid dog park. I haven't been to MANY dog parks in the area. But I most definitely like this one leagues better than the Cabin John Dog Park. Next one I've gotta check out is King Farm. A lot of people from the park say that is a pretty solid one in the area.

bring own water! go pee before arrival (human owners)…read more still winterized (h2o pipe closed. 2and-all grass w WC closed until spring) but nice. mix of medium-large breeds of all ages. ones here now all pleasantly accompanied by attentive owners. looks like there's a 'happy hour' group of friendly regulars looks like some earlier patrons send their maids to pick up after their pets as I stepped on quite a few poop pies ...wish I could afford not to pick up after myself....
