I went to the SF store first and met with the owner Tanya and her assistant, Catherine. Great meeting but I needed to wait for the demo to be completed to follow-up on final measurements. Fast forward to yesterday and I dropped into the San Mateo store (easy parking) with final plans/measurements ready. From the very beginning (stressed out lady in parking lot) and into the store, I've never felt so unwelcome. There were no customers in the store and yet, it felt as if I was nuisance plus you could feel the tension in the air among the 2 sales ladies. After i asked a few questions, the salesperson turned to a back office (Tanya's office); they spoke in Russian in front of me and she came out. Hey Tanya...guess what? I understand Russian and understood what you were saying. Shame on you It takes a lot of research before you spend $30,000 +and you expected me to drop a check in SF w/o planning. After visiting quite a few kitchen cabinet stores in the San Mateo area, we settled on Cabinets and Beyond. They weren't the least expensive, but they seemed to give qualified and honest advice about the lines they carried. We were looking for frameless cabinets and, per their recommendations, settled on the Eclipse line by Shiloh Cabinets. If you are looking for a no-nonsense designer with tons of experience who excels in designing functional and timeless kitchens, ask for Olga. I loved working with her - she'll listen to my ideas, but she could also be quite convincing to propose (usually better) alternatives. Our kitchen turned out far better than in my wildest dreams (and I can still not believe how much space I have). And the cabinets are gorgeous! While we had a few issues with some cabinets and doors, Olga made sure they were quickly resolved without much hassle. We initially worked with Doug, who spent time on several designs before finalizing our order, and then we worked with Ashley when questions came up during our installation. They maybe slightly more expensive but they are beautifully made and the most customizable on the market. All the contractors that worked in our kitchen remarked on the quality. Also, if it matters to you like it did for us, Crystal carries formaldehyde free Cabinets with zero VOC stains! I can't recommend Ashley enough as your designer. We completed a full kitchen remodel this summer with Tanya's help. She helped with both the design and the cabinet selection. She was organized, flexible, listened to our needs, and was very creative. We wanted a functional bright kitchen with lots of storage and she went to work creating multiple designs to meet our family's needs. We met several times to discus her ideas and come up with different iterations until I was satisfied. She is also fun to work with so it didn't really seem like work! We discussed different countertops, cabinet hardware and even lighting. She is very knowledgeable about appliances as well. She does it all. For months, since we started remodeling our home, I've sworn up and down to write a yelp review for either a horrendous experience or an amazing one for various companies, contractors, and vendors. Doug Mallon deserves my first rave review! First off, we initially visited the Cabinets and Beyond in SF, seeing as though we live in SF. We made an appt with Jamie. She was nice, but she was working on some ginormous multi unit apartment bathroom project and basically said "well, I can TRY to squeeze in a proposal for you next week...." Our 3 bathrooms may not be a big deal in the scheme of things but it is our home where we live and its HUGE deal to us. We want to pay someone who understands that and treats us accordingly. We don't blame her for being busy, but that's just not the service level we were looking for. 6 cabinet stores later, we decided, let's GTFO of this city and go outside where our business is appreciated. We just walked in on a random Saturday and talked with Doug. He was SO friendly and helpful. He got us a detailed proposal within the next few days, including several design iterations in between. He is incredibly patient, made great suggestions, and has a sense of urgency. If you are remodeling, you know contractors are the worst communicators on the planet earth, so having someone like Doug, who responds immediately, and with substance and honesty, is a freaking god send. Even though we had a tiny snag and one of our cabinets was 1 week delayed, Doug kept on top of it and figured out what the issue was and kept us posted down to the minute. Also I need to mention the pricing was excellent and the quality is beautiful. We had a bid from FloorCraft using the same designs/plans and cabinet maker (omega) and it was double the price that Cabinets and Beyond gave us. When our installer cancelled last minute because of the flu, Doug contacted 2 installers for us, one of which we ended up using (they were able to install over 4th of July weekend with 2 days notice!) Doug is a shining star in this shit pile of people I had to work with in our remodeling project. We couldn't have done this without him! read more

Cabinets and Beyond is the design brain of my kitchen. It was just finished a couple weeks ago, and it looks awesome. Let me describe the person that would benefit from going here as opposed to anywhere else for a kitchen remodel. 1. You have a general theme in your mind on how the kitchen should look, but not sure the exact details. C&B will help you with this by filling in the gaps of your vision and help you nail down the details. 2. You need a sounding board on things you're unsure of. C&B's showroom has just about every solution there is in terms of cabinets and everything connected to cabinets. If you want a real-life example of a solution for blind corner, C&B has multiple ones in the show room for you to play with. 3. You can't visualize the plan. C&B will create a 3D rendition of your kitchen and make it as close to reality as possible. They will do this in a day or so. 4. Your vision is detail oriented, but you've never done a kitchen remodel and don't know what to look out for. The designers of C&B look at every inch of your design to make sure everything lines up. A blue print can then be created to help your contractor execute the vision. 5. You need support with your contractor. C&B will work with your contractor to make sure everything works out. They're even available to consult with your contractor during installation. Also, this includes ordering odds and ends during the project if needed. 6. You need a designer you can connect with. I worked with Ashley, and he was very easy to work with. It's informal, friendly, accessible and though the scope of work can be vast he alleviates the intimidation of the project. He was also agile in working with you, he listened to all my feedback and weird ideas, and he pulls you back at the right time when it won't work out but only if he has to. He will not put pressure on you to conform to that latest fashions, but he'll inform you if you've hit on something that he's seen work before. Also and important if you've never done this before: Ashley helps you figure out what's critical to make a decision and what is not. Too often, in our ignorance, we micromanage every aspect that creates stress and anxiety. Instead, we should stress about the things that are important and relax on details that are less important. Keeps our sanity. I really can't say enough good things about C&B. The real proof is this: We have three bathrooms in our house that are as desperate as my kitchen for a remodel/updating. I have every intention of going back to C&B and Ashley to help with options and design. I'll update this review when that happens. read more

I would also add that, when a glitch came up with the fabrication of our countertop material, Olga immediately suggested a reasonable alternative. As it turned out, the problem wasn't as bad as we thought so the original design remained. (She quickly located a second matching slab for us!) Olga has great sense of style and color. Instead of mentioning that he might be a little late and ask if I would mind waiting, his comment to me when I arrived (wearing work out clothes and with my daughter and mother) was ,"You aren't in a hurry, are you?" like I have nothing else to do but wait for him since his other client was clearly much more important. He didn't try to hurry and didn't even apologize when he was continuing into my appointment time. His comment was, "We're almost done. We're just going to do a few more things..." Their cabinets is great quality. We have their Bellmont painted white cabinets installed over 3 years ago and we decided to remodel our house but kept the kitchen. By remodel, I mean we demolished the entire house at the beginning of Feb 2015, left my kitchen cabinets on the walls, built plywood walls around them, then wrapped the plywood with tarp and waterproofing membrane. The only thing left in my entire house was the kitchen. That kitchen went through weather changes and the entire construction process. They took the plywood box apart a couple of months ago and just covered the cabinets with plastic to avoid getting paint on them. My house is about done now, painted and all. The contractor took the plastic off today and my kitchen cabinets looked exactly how they were 8 months ago!!! No crack on the doors, no decoloring, nothing! They are PERFECT!!! So I just want to give a shout out to them since the quality of the cabinets have been proven :) Also, I should have yelped 3 years ago that their staff and everyone that I interacted with there are super nice and very professional and accommodating. I was dissatisfied with something at the end of the project - not sure if it was their fault or mine with the order (probably mine). I was agitated with living in a construction zone with an 8 months old baby and a 2 yr old kid and was really stressed out. They definitely made life easier for me by replacing the product in question at the time without hesitation. 2 thumbs up for making a mom's life easier! I would recommend Cabinets and Beyond. With this current construction, if my contractor didn't come with a cabinet guy, I would have definitely used them again. read more

I completely remodeled my kitchen through Cabinets and Beyond. I worked with designer Yuriy Nakbo and was extremely satisfied and impressed. Yuriy has an amazing design eye, but his talents go far beyond design. He understands cost trade-offs of various approaches and helped us get the most for our money. He visited the construction site frequently, to make sure everything was installed just so. When we discovered a blemish in the countertop material, he worked directly with the manufacturer and had our counters replaced at no charge. The best thing about Yuriy was his follow-through. These guys were great! Their selection was awesome and yet their stuff was able find exactly what we needed out of multitude of options. Our salesman, Yuriy, was always available not only until, but most importantly, after we made an order. It was pretty amazing how he was able to add an inch here and an inch there so that no doors would collide and all appliances would fit right in - without him we'd have a much less functional kitchen. The staff was also able to identify the stores we should visit for appliances and accessories. Having considered our budget, they were not pushing their selection of door handles, for examples, instead they told us where to go and what to look for to save some $$$. We will go back for the new cabinets (and beyond) when we get a larger house. read more
