After asking a number of friends for recommendations I still wasn't satisfied with the list of floor installers and companies we had narrowed down. I did a little more on-line searching and stumbled onto UB Flooring close to me in Plymouth. I read their on-line reviews and found good and bad, but they worked with the bad to make things right and decided to dig deeper. Their storefront isn't fancy, but the store included samples of everything I wanted to see. Being frugal myself (), I like to see companies being smart where they spend their own money - on their product and skilled employees. We left the showroom with samples to review at home, narrowing down our choices enough to ask for a quote. The quote was reasonable so we decided to set the date to have new floor added and old wood refinished. We discussed the quote, Sam answered all of our questions and we decided to put half down to buy materials and hold our spot. We picked a date 3 months out so the floors could be done when we were scheduled to be out of town. They brought in the bundles of flooring a few days before installation to acclimate it to our house and floor. The processes of lacing in new flooring, installing, sanding, staining and finishing could not have gone any better. Tomorrow they will be adding the finish coat and our floor journey will be complete. Communication has been stellar every step of the way, and they could not have been more clear with their questions, answers, guidance and suggestions. Strongly recommend UB Flooring and Sam to get your job done right!

There are several particals of organic matter in the finish; the steps had to be redone 3 times due to uneven color; there is stain/varnish on our walls, peninsula and the sides of the steps; the entire floor had to be varnished twice and the entry from the foyer to the kitchen, does not have thick enough varnish and one of the transition boards was ruined. The overall job took 3 weeks longer that what we were told. The most disturbing thing was their tempory electrical connection at our main electrical panel for their sander. An electrcial cord was connected to our main panel in our basement. The cord ran from our basement, up two sets of stairs to the kitchen, and the panel cover was left off. This was in an area that was used by us and was left like this until the sanding was finished, two to three days. The way it was done was very dangerous for the person who made the connection, and for us. The owner did come to our house due to the complaints. He admitted some things were done poorly or incorrectly and poo-pooed other things. When told about the danger with the sander hook up, he acted shocked that it was dangerous and said that is the way they have always done it. When asked why the company doesn't run the sander off of a generator, he said it was too expensive to purchase generators. In the end, he took 400$ off our bill.

My husband was…read morecatastrophically injured in an accident and we were told we need to move somewhere that can accommodate his wheelchair and other disability needs. Very expensive. When we reached out to Kristiaan to ask if he could help us remodel our kitchen, he not only agreed to give us a quote without charge, he also came to our house and taped out the entire design on the floor, no charge. None of the other contractors were willing to put in that kind of time and effort without a guarantee that they would get the job. Kristiaan not only worked with the IKEA plans we had designed, but he further figured out the engineering required to support the large, open span that we had to have suspended over my husband's wheelchair. Everything you see in the photos is brand new and done by Kristiaan. What you don't see is that, on the other side where we already had IKEA cabinets, he moved the entire cabinet run over and built a stabilized support for our new kitchen sink. He also worked with the countertop installers to get us the cutouts that we needed, and recommended the best outlet/lighting system for us. And when IKEA dropped the ball and failed to deliver the promised toekicks, Kristiaan developed a workaround and personally went to IKEA to pick them up for us. A good friend of mine who is a luxury home builder in the Twin Cities said that Kristiaan basically fulfilled the idea of "aging in place" that is extremely popular now. Instead of moving to a "senior" type development, hire Kristiaan instead to make over your current home into your dream home.
