Cackleberries is a great local, family run business. It's very popular (especially on weekends), so I would not recommend it for a large group, unless you're willing to split up...They do have a lot of seating on both sides, but expect to wait to be seated. They work you in a fast as possible, but there might be a wait to pay your check too. Did I mention it's very busy?? Today, I sat at the counter and had the ham/cheese omelet with a couple of extra vegetables and it came with real potatoes (a must for me since I don't eat deep fried hash browns) and a short stack of pancakes. Everything was really good. My first pancakes were not hot, so I asked for new ones and they came right out hot off the grill and were good. Please give them a try, since you won't be disappointed for good food and service. read more

Really good food and value for the money. I ordered the vegetable skillet which had potatoes, broccoli, spinach, eggs, Swiss cheese, peppers, and onions. It was very good and hot. It came with your choice of toast or pancakes. I got the pancakes, and they gave me two large pancakes. Needless to say, I could not finish the food. Service is also good here. Cackleberries was busy on a Sunday at brunch time, but we were seated immediately. I chose this place for my first Terre Haute brunch because it is locally owned. We had to park on a side street because their lot was full. Service was very good and waitresses came around every couple of minutes to check up on us and refill our glasses. Food came out within seven minutes and looked great! I chose the crispy bacon omelette, which comes with hash browns and a side of toast or pancakes. Both the omelette and the hash browns were underseasoned and I had to add salt to my plate. I wish the omelette had onions/peppers/cheese with the omelette, but it was only bacon. I enjoyed the texture of the omelette and the potatoes. The pancakes were a good size but had a weird sour aftertaste. The portions were huge for the price ($7.50) and I ended up not finishing my meal. Would come back and try other things! read more

Better than Denny's, because it has that local Terre Haute ownership feel, but it is like a Denny's. I would always take the local spot over the large corporate chain any day, so I am happy to eat at Cackleberries. I have now been here twice over two years and the breakfast options (served all day and my meal of choice any hour of the day) are pretty good and reasonably priced. An omelette, with pancakes or toast, is going to set you back $8. Ambiance is very much a local feel and kind of rough around the edges, with relatively uncomfortable banquet like chairs, dull covered walls, relatively bad decor and cut out paper stars on the doors advertising the specials of homemade soups and the featured sandwich of the day and such. Although I give Cackleberries a 3, I would go back and again would prefer to eat here over a spot like Denny's. read more

Cackleberries was a treat! My husband and I came to Terre Haute to drop our son off at Rose- Hulman. We were happy to see the owner was wearing a Rose-Hulman T-shirt. We formed an instant connection. Not only was Tim, the owner, an extremely friendly guy, the food was excellent! We ordered french toast, eggs, bacon and pancakes. The pancakes were huge, the French toast was wonderful with thick, crispy bacon and fluffy eggs. The portions are large. We left feeling satisfied. When we come back to town, we will certainly come back to Cackleberries. Much better than going to a chain restaurant. The wait staff was very attentive and personable and made us feel very welcome so far from home. read more

Cackleberries continues to be one of my go to places when I don't want to cook in the mornings before I have to work or go out of town. The food continues to be as good as always. The service is good, too. The one downsize of the last time I was there was that I received hateful glares from other patrons when I spoke Spanish to the lady who was bussing the tables when I left. We are both U.S. citizens and born in the U.S. So I didn't understand the glares. Ethnically, I'm Cherokee and Shawnee, so I wonder what kind of glares I would get if I had told him that. That's not going to stop me from coming to Cackleberries, though. read more

We recently visited for Father's Day breakfast. We were able to get right in at 8:30am which was a surprise because I thought it might be busy for the Holiday. Shortly after we arrived the place really filled up. I decided to go with the Sirloin and Eggs Special that was on the board as we walked in. I ordered my steak Medium Rare. It was delivered WELL DONE. I usually order medium rare because I figure even if it is prepared Medium well I can still eat it. Well this place really didn't know how to cook a steak. I can't really expect a breakfast place to know how to do that. The hash browns with my meal were not cooked well either. Some were crispy and most were just like soft chunks of backed potato. Also when ordering I wanted to see if I could trade my 7 year old's bacon for 1 egg. She said no. I asked how much an extra egg was and she said $1.09. I then asked how much extra bacon would be and she said $2.19. Using that logic I asked again if I could trade the bacon for the egg and she said no. I'm used to the breakfast diner type places catering to whatever you would like. Not this place! She wasn't even nice about it. She could have said I'm sorry sir we can't do any substitutions, but she just bluntly said it. It doesn't even say no subs in the menu. Overall I would say the food here isn't terrible. It's just not as good as others make it out to be. Might as well go to Denny's. I think I'll just hit Cracker Barrel if I need breakfast in The Haute. read more

It's locally owned and much better than any chain restaurant in the area. I got the vegetarian skillet this morning with a fruit bowl! I have also had the omelettes and pancakes, both are tasty! The fruit bowls here are freshly made each morning. One of the best fruit bowls I have ordered from a restaurant. We got seated quickly and our food came out fast and hot!
