Small dinner, big taste.. passing through the area for work and came across this little place and had the burger special.. mini burgers, fries and sat at the counter (think 50's dinner).. Service was fast and the food was very good.

Food is good. Even if you get takeout, they ask you how much tip you want to leave. It should be voluntary instead of asking for it.

The bar is in an old historic building and the mural says the bar has been in operation for 120 years. That's a long time of weathering events such as prohibition, wars and the Great Depression. But in a small town like Brazil, you need a good bar. Inside, the bar is ancient, but tidy and comforting. I grab a seat at a high top table. Our server, Deniela, was fantastic, gave us the low down on daily specials and made a few recommendations. Water came out quickly, as did food. She checked on us regularly. I had the daily special, prime rib burrito, which was very good. The prime rib was tender and juicy. The rice was much more flavorful than the usual Tex mex rice. I loved my meal. My husband tried the breaded pork tenderloin. The breading was perfectly seasoned and the large loin was moist and tender. The bun was good, too. The hand cut chips were delicious. (I ate half his chips and could have made a meal of them.) There is street parking. I recommend a visit, but expect to be rooting for Alabama on game day. The food is delicious.

My wife was going to meet some friends at Pappy's. I was working late so she volunteered to get me…read morea carryout order. She figured I'd want my favorite--the big slab of meatloaf with Texas toast. Nope...no meatloaf...not this time. Her timing was perfect as I've seen advertised and heard from reliable sources about the famous "Big Al" from Pappy's. I made my request. She immediately agreed that it had to be tried. The Big Al isn't just a heaping mound of pork. It's a heaping mound of pork on Texas toast with just the right ratio of a sweeter sauce and.....here it comes....a big clump of Mac and cheese!!! It was like a modern day Dagwood with pork, Mac and cheese and sauce. WOW!! I have a sweet tooth. I like a bit of salty with the sweetness. But the creamy Mac and cheese with the perfectly chewy (al dente?) pasta made this sandwich a hit. The sandwich, along with their perfectly crisped French fries were a great combo. It was a HUGE portion and definitely required some to be held back for leftover lunch. Here's what makes the sandwich even better: this was designed by a local teen and his wishes were for some of the profits from the sandwich to go back towards a worthy organization. I'm intentionally leaving some information out so those who don't know will go and discover the rest of the story on your own. Get out of the house and head to 111 E. National ASAP. Pappy's--Meat---Eat---Repeat. There are plenty of choices if the Big Al isn't for you. My wife and I are pretty partial to their bread pudding, too!! You can't go wrong. Last thing that has always amused me...it's also an educational experience going to Pappy's with their animal anatomy drawings on the wall. It's a clean place with tons of room to maneuver. Good stuff!!!
