The best Mexican food in Boston. This place can not do you wrong. Everything me and my wife have tried has been delicious. The steak quesadillas are incredible. The steak chimichanga was delicious. The plantains are always perfectly fried. The portions are huge of whatever you buy and the prices are very reasonable. This is a hidden Eastie gem. There are tables and chairs but it is not a sit down style restaurant. I am totally ok with that. Try it out and you will not be let down. Came here for lunch during work for the first time. The rotisserie chicken lord so yummy. So I decided to go with that, yellow rice, and beef empanada. They put my chicken on the grill as if it were a bit cold? But whatever. I sat down with high anticipation of eating this. I cut my chicken open and discovered it was still VERY pink and uncooked on the inside. I went up to the cashier very apologetically for interrupting their flow of service to other people, and I told them that my chicken was still uncooked and very pink. He offered to either give me another rotisserie or other chicken. I asked what other chicken they had, and the guy just said "fried" and pointed to their cooked food pam area. Some of the stuff, I couldn't tell what I was looking at. So, while I'm looking for another chicken such as regular grilled, another cool from the back area comes up and asks for my plate. I didn't know what he was doing until I saw him take the uncooked chicken off my plate, and just plop a burnt piece of fried chicken on my plate. I didn't want fried chicken at all, but since we were running out of time for break, I had to just take it, as their line was so long and I had to get back to work. Hope I don't get salmonella poisoning. If so, I know why and where! With that said, prices are reasonable depending on what you get. The yellow rice was bland (surprising for a Hispanic restaurant). I just had an utter burritogasm. I shamefully admit that sometimes I'm intimidated by places that *seem* as though nobody who works there speaks English. So first things first: they do speak English, they are very nice people, and this monoglot ordered with no problem. You can eat there or get to go from the window counter, and they will load up a delicious burrito with any and all equally delicious toppings you choose. And the prices are incredibly low. The Cactus Grill is THE spot for burritos. It's a cafeteria-style setup where you can see all of the ingredients that they're using. There a real 'choose your own adventure' feeling here as you can get a small or a large burrito and you can customize the fillings to your liking. It's also refreshingly inexpensive. I'm pretty sure that if Taco Mex didn't have the buxom, scantily-clad waitresses, they'd go out of business because of this place. As mentioned in another review, it is located on a corner in between two watering holes. This has its advantages as well as its drawbacks. I've been there waiting in line behind a belligerent drunkard trying to coax the employees into giving him more guacamole and pico de gallo, I've also taken advantage of the location after leaving one of the aforementioned sleazy joints. read more

Zuper Yum! 12/10 would eat again. Had a long work trip and they stuck me out by the airport for eight nights. This place was an excellent find. I had the chicken burrito and liked it so much I had to go back my last night. The chicken is roasted on site and makes a big difference when compared to chain spots. Went there to grab a quick bite for lunch. It is a cafeteria style set up, so you can see what you order. I ordered a taco de pollo and a taco de carne. Both was good quality but not quite the Northern Mexico style that I was used to. I will go back again to try something else since their lunch plate looks good. read more

fun place, feels like an el torito or some other upscale mexican restaurant/bar! pluses: free coat check! amen to THAT out on a freezing boston night free chips and salsa YUMMM definitely accommodates a huge group. no problems, not too crowded on a friday night. minuses: tostada is like... big salad of shredded lettuce on a chip. not the tastiest thing there.... I ordered chips + guac and a tostada. guac was definitely tasty, but i wouldn't order it again. but was a great deal for all the food & drinks. read more

Went to Rosticeria Cancun recently only to find that they had a fire and were closed, so after looking around Maverick Square for other options I stepped into Cactus Grill. It was pretty crowded and and there was a short line but the ladies behind the counter were super efficient and kept it moving pretty quickly. I got a steak burrito and noticed while they were throwing it together that they put guacamole in it, which was nice (a lot of places charge extra for guac), and then they wrapped the whole thing up and put it on the grill (another thing most places don't do). Despite these extras, though, the burrito was just average. If I come back here again I'd probably order something different. read more

I used to go to this place all the time, the food is good and the price is right, BUT the dining room is always dirty. The floor, tables, plasticware dispensers, trash barrels are always so filthy. I understand that this place is very busy, but I don't think that is an excuse to keep it like that. The chips were old and chewy, the "melted" queso (that I waited 10 minutes for) was cold and weird, the rotisserie chicken was SEVERELY under cooked, and the customer service awful. I noticed they genuinely treated the Spanish speakers extremely more friendly than the none. So don't bother if you don't speak fluent Spanish. read more

This place has great flavoring in their food. They give you a really good portion sizes. There is this kid who I always see when I go in to eat there. He is very nice, helpful, fast and amazing at his job. The only complaint that I have is that sometimes the food is cold, but even then the food taste good. read more

By far the best tacos in East Boston! The burritos are HUGE. The prices are really fair and the food seems to always be fresh!

First off, everything is fresh. It seems like you can watch them create everything in front of you. The burritos are not the most flavorful I have ever had but amazingly fresh. And then they grill the outside! The thing to do get is the random dishes in the metal bins. That is where you find meals with incredible smells and flavors. I had meatballs in a tomato based sauce the other night that knocked my socks off. Be adventurous and order what looks delicious, not just what you know on the menu. You won't be sorry. read more

I been going there for two years and never been dissapointed with the food. The staff is effecient and friendly. I usually go for the burritos, tacos, pupusas, carne asada and Salvadorean enchiladas and any of these items are very yummie. They also have a buffet and feel free to tried any item because they are very adequate with their prices. If u dont want to spend alot for a meal go there because with $6 u will be fed and fulled. I've lived in East Boston a while now and always overlooked this place. I am a burrito connoisseur. Annas use to be my favorite until I discovered this place. This place serves the best burrito I'ver ever had by far. I've tried the veggie burrito and breakfast burrito both were delicious. Place doesn't look too cool when you walk by, but you need to step inside. When the locals crowd the place, it must be good. As your're looking at the menu (hopefully you understand what it is..I don't) you are barraged with multiple choices..so you basically just point and tell them what you want. I have been twice! Absolutely the worst ordering experience ever. The waitstaff is rude and has no concept of a cue whatsoever. Whoever is shouting the loudest and in Spanish gets served first no matter how long you've been wait. However, if you can get through the rude, chaotic environment and don't mind being ignored...the food is great. read more
