    Birria taco
    Ilana S.

The Birria tacos really do live up the hype. They're amazing and the perfect way to warm up on a chilly day! We decided to be healthy and try to balance the birria taco goodness with some other dishes, including guacamole and chips, chicken tamale, and steak tacos. The tamale was quite good, and I would definitely get again. The guacamole was just ok and the steak tacos were quite dry. My advice is to stick with the Birria tacos (which I'll be back again and again for).

I tried this place at the recommendation of some local food sites and it was good but did not blow my mind. I tried several tacos and tamales and everything was solid. The restaurant, itself, was clean and charming and service was efficient and friendly. Definitely a good option for authentic Mexican cuisine, particularly if in the neighborhood.

Cozy shop with DELICIOUS food and drinks. The birria is crunchy on the outside and filled with a perfect blend of cheese and meat, to which you can add your veggies of choice. Their consome sealed the deal and brought all of the flavors together. Their agua frescas were also so delicious. The melon was refreshingly sweet whereas the tamarind was a perfect tart to cut through our food. Excited to come back and try more. Note that the space is small. When we went (June 2025) there was an AC, however there were also lots of flies hovering in the middle of the restaurant. They stayed in the middle of the room and didn't bother us when we ate -- it seemed that they were only there to ride the AC wind currents haha.

Taco places can always be a hit or miss & Taqueria absolutely hits. The food, service, & decor all feel authentic. The menu can be a little over whelming at first so I recommend sticking to the basics the first time. The birria tacos & carnita tacos paired perfectly with a Mexican coke or jarritos.

They almost get the fourth star because the staff is super nice and I know it's very authentic. I just didn't go crazy over this lunch. I had got the taco combination. Meats were just ok. Rice and beans were the same. Flavor just wasn't there. For $20, no. Sorry.

These are best tacos i've had in boston so far! the birria tacos are so good, very juicy and the broth you dip it in was also full of flavor. The prices are also very fair as well. The best part is they sell carnitas by the pound. My husband and I bought 1 pound to take home, and we were able to have delicious, juicy meat for the next 2 days. The service is fast and the staff is friendly. The restaurant itself is small but has a decent amount of seats. I'd definitely come back.

Ordered: Birria tacos, melon drink, chocolate cake. The surprise star: the chocolate cake!! Yummy tacos as expected from the other reviews! I would order again! The melon drink was okay...not likely to order again, but I did appreciate the freshness and size. The chocolate cake was surprisingly super delish! I would return just for that!!! I'm looking forward to going back and trying more options!

Food was so authentic, fresh, hot, delicious. The biria tacos were the best I've had, and I've been trying them everywhere for the last 3 years. The chilaquiles huevos verde were so simple, but magnificent, the verde sauce danced perfectly on top of the freshly fried tortillas, the scrambled eggs, onions and cheese completed the experience. The tamales were soft, fresh, flavorful and the sauces that accompanied them were spectacular... Highly recommend... brush up on your parallel parking skills... parking is tough but I'd walk from Newburyport for this meal.

The restaurant is in a bustling neighborhood with many restaurants in East Boston. Parking is easier during the weekend as resident parking isn't in effect. There is limited seating and many customers ordered takeout. If you opt to dine-in you would order and pay at the counter. The dining tables have really beautiful tile. The Carne Adobada came with soft tortillas and a plate of vegetables. The green cilantro sauce is amazing, you'd definitely want more! The pork was so delicious and full of flavor. A lot of people got the birria tacos.

I think these might be some of my favorite tacos in Boston! It's tough finding good, authentic Mexican food in the area, but after hearing many people recommend Taqueria Jalisco, I knew I had to check it out for myself. The place is definitely a hole-in-the-wall with only a few tables. Luckily, we got a table inside when we arrived on a Friday evening. I ordered three tacos with various different meat options and a horchata. I love how the tacos came with some refried beans, rice, and salsa. Everything paired so perfectly together. The ingredients were relatively simple, yet so fresh and full of flavor. The horchata was also the perfect drink to wash everything down with. It had a perfect cinnamon flavor and wasn't too sweet, which I enjoyed. I'll definitely be returning to try out some of their other delicious looking food!

Small neighborhood restaurant with big flavor. The birria tacos were delicious and comes with all the fixings to make each taco into different flavor profile. if there is a line don't let that deter you, the food comes out fairly quickly.

What meat is used for the birria tacos?

    Beef

I see lots of pictures for soft shell tacos but does anyone know if they sell hard shell tacos? TIA

I don't remember seeing hard shell tacos on their menu. I think if you want hard shell something you might want to go for the taquitos.

I had been craving fish tacos for a really long time, and I was delighted to find a whole section of the menu dedicated to them. We started off with margaritas - one of the best companions to fish tacos - and I ordered mine spicy with jalapeño. For food, we shared the lobster empanadas and chorizo and potato taquitos. I ordered the tempura fish tacos for myself. Our margaritas were brought out shortly - mine was refreshing but lacked the kick from the jalapeño that I was hoping for (there was only one thin slice of pepper). Our food was brought out shortly, and I found it a bit overwhelming when our appetizers and tacos came out together. I started with my tacos, and these were excellent. The fish was flaky and fried to perfection, and I loved the rainbow of sauces and toppings. Plus, the tortillas were nice and sturdy and didn't tear. The lobster empanadas were super decadent, and I appreciated the substantial amount of lobster stuffed inside. I was too full to eat much of the taquitos but took a few bites. These also had good flavor but weren't standouts. Next time, I'd just get the tacos and maybe a light app. Towards the end of our visit, the restaurant seemed to clear out, and we had a difficult time trying to locate our server for the bill. Overall, we had a nice meal and satisfied the fish taco craving.

It is a cute spot, but just a heads up that the entrance is a little hard to find- I thought I had walked in through the back door. The restaurant is actually located in the public alley, not directly on Gloucester Street. The food was really good. I am obsessed with their rice and beans. Everyone seemed to love what they ordered! However, Im taking away two stars because of our service and our waitress. When we sat down, she casually asked, "Can I get you started with chips and guac?" At pretty much every Mexican restaurant I have ever been to, that phrasing implies it is complimentary. At no point did she mention that the guac was an added charge. We later found out we were charged $16 per guac, yes because she brought over TWO (!!) which totaled over $30, which felt really misleading. If something is meant to be an appetizer you are paying for, I expect it to be framed as, "Would you like to order any appetizers?" not presented as a default and free starter. That part left a sour taste in my mouth. I would consider coming back for the food, but I would be much more cautious ordering anything they recommend.

The carne asada was flavorful, but the veggie taco completely exceeded my expectations. Instead of the usual peppers and onions, it was loaded with fresh corn, eggplant, zucchini, cauliflower, and a mix of peppers that added great flavor and texture. It was colorful, fresh, and filling without feeling heavy. The real standout, though, was their homemade habanero salsa. It packed incredible flavor with a serious kick. I could still feel the heat lingering on my tongue long after I finished eating. I loved every second of it.
