After our group's weekly hikes, we like to stop somewhere and have some snacks and time to socialize. It's also when we decide where the next week's hike will be. We hiked Parks Peak in Henderson this week. I looked on the map before the hike and found Cactus Wren Park which would be on our way home. I had also ridden by this park when I rode the St. Rose Parkway bike trail once. It was a perfect place to stop. Lots of parking in their lot, covered picnic tables--if you sat in the right spot you were in the sun for warmth. There were a number of children playing in our area supervised by their mother(?) We wondered if they were home schooled kids and this was their PE. On the other side of the people park, there's a dog park. The park was well maintained and was a great spot to stop! read more

This place is ass bro. There is barely any grass! Me and my family went to walk my dog who is a poodle part chihuahua and we saw this fenced area with so much grass but the entrance was weird but we did not think much. MY DOG LOVED IT we were having so much fun but she saw a dog and started barking through the fence and well of course she gonna bark but the owner of the dog my dog barked at got mad! He said this was not the dog park that it was a construction working on growing the grass up. And well that's shit! We went to investigate where the real dog park was and that one was ASS. There was grass but so little and no trees whatsoever cause dogs need trees to pee and poo like you can try it if you want by my opinion if you have a dog you love to spoil don't go there. I wanted to find a dog park that was: 1) Close to home 2) large so Mack had space to run around and feel free 3) Safe for not only me, but my fur baby Thankfully, this dog park checks out on all the requirements. The park itself is not that big; I would say the dog park is about 50% of the actual park. When we arrived, there was mini league soccer practice going in on the lawn area next to the playground. When driving up to the park for the first time, the dog park is all the way at the end- near all the power lines. There are 3 dog parks compiled in one area: one entry gate for small dogs, one entry gate for large dogs and one entry gate for "all dogs." The small and all dogs area are roughly about the same size and the large dogs area is much bigger than the two. I would say this park is pretty decent but they didn't have a lot of climbing things for the dogs. It's basically grass, dirt and a few large rocks. When we arrived around 8p, there were a few other people but then it got dark pretty quick. The lighting after sunset isn't all that great so best to come in the mid afternoon/early evening. Parking is along the street unless you park in the parking lot on the complete other side and walk over. Overall, nice dog park near a few super huge houses. read more

Cactus Wren Park - Dog Parks Near Me - Henderson, Nevada

When I passed through here hiking on the City of Henderson Trail System [ CHTS] in Seven Hills, I stopped to spend a few minutes in Cactus Wren Park (a couple hours ago). From my observation, the dog park is one piece of this neighborhood park. There are other pieces that include a baseball field and a skate park. Cactus Wren Park offers a spectacular vista of the Las Vegas Strip. Especially a few feet away from the dog park, on the adjacent St. Rose Parkway pedestrian bridge, where I went on a picture taking binge. I love hiking trails (when it is not 100 degrees). Cactus Wren Park is one jewel of many scattered throughout the CHTS. Because Cactus Wren Park is contiguous to the CHTS, I am a fan. Dog Owners will be a greater fan knowing that the CHTS is a dog friendly trail system. read more

Not the BEST dog park I've ever been to, but I do like that there are three sections for dogs: small, large, and all play. It also gets pretty regular traffic: My dog played with 3 dogs in the 1.5 hours we were there on a Saturday afternoon. I like this park a lot. I frequent quite often because it's close to home, it's clean and in a safe area. There's two jungle gyms; one for kids ages 5-12 and another one for kids 5 and younger. I like that the ground around the play area is padded instead of sand to cushion and falls that may happen. There's no gate around the play area so just keep a close eye on your little ones. The parents I've talked to during my visits have been nice and none of the kids have been bad apples. There is also swings, a basketball court and a volleyball area. Next to the playground is a baseball field where I have seen a few games being played. Overall, it's pretty solid park that I know I'll be visiting a lot more since the weather is getting warmer. read more

We just recently got cleared by the vet for our dog to start socializing post vaccination series. So we decided to venture out and try out some dog parks. We had already passed 2 this day and they were really small and there were no dogs around, this one was gonna be our last try. Cactus Wren is a nicely kept park, softball field, kids play area, and a nice off leash dog area with 3 separate runs. There was only one other person there with 2 dogs, he was really friendly and offered to introduce his big dogs so to our pup one at a time. They had a blast wrestling in the grass, there's lots of space for them to run around and blow off steam. We plan to check out a bunch of dog parks so we can decide which is best. But we will definitely return to this park. read more

Beware! The dog park is nice, the problem there is a morning pack of large aggressive dogs that attacked my dog. The people obviously were regulars and two Shepard's and a pit bull ganged up and took down my large standard poodle down. He was crying and crazed with fear. The dog owners did work to stop the attack but then actually tried to blame my dog for not sharing his ball! I was dumbstruck! I will not come back here in the morning, this group is not welcoming, dogs nor humans. read more

Its a relatively small dog park but its section off into 3 areas so thats great. The big issue is that if you have a bushy or long hair dog then they will pick up all the spiky seeds from grass. Not took me 2 hours to remov3 all the spiky from my shih tzu's hair. read more

Cactus Wren has all of the small touches to make it a great dog park. There are three different sections (1 for small dogs, 1 large section for large dogs, and 1 section for miscellaneous). There are plenty of benches and chairs (so dog owners can move the chairs into the shade on hot Vegas days). There's a water fountain with a dog fountain right outside the park gates. And the people and dogs that frequent the park are friendly and knowledgeable about dogs (at least the folks who visit in the mornings are). All in all, it's a great place for pups to play. read more

This was my first time at this park. It was for my nephews 1st birthday party. They have different areas to choose from to reserve for the day. We had a covered picnic area that had 4 good sized picnic tables and a huge bbq grill. The cost was $50 to have the spot for the day. The kids were able to play on the playground and run and play football in the large grassy area. I noticed it is a dog park too! Had I known they had such a nice dog park area I would have brought my 2 fur babies. I will bring them back another time for sure! The restrooms were clean and didn't smell bad. If you want to reserve a spot for a Saturday I suggest at least giving them a 3 week notice to ensure you get that day. read more

Wow, or Bow Wow????? I started to come here when I tood a three month sabbatical. Great place. 1. Three fenced in areas, although not sign posted, the large middle one is for the huge dogs and the two on the side are usually where the smaller dogs or difficult dogs go. 2. Facilities - Very nice, seating in each, garbage bins, the plastic bags are usually filled, and rarely empty. 3. Grass - An issue, in the winter, it is dried up and almost dirt like. When they water, it becomes mud. Not fun for clean up. 4. People - Overall, the dogs bring overall nice owners. Most are friendly, and will engage in a conversation. Most control their dogs well, however, most do not do well in the clean up section on aisle 4. Come on folks.... 5. Sticks and Mesquite Beans - The mesquite trees give off the bean pods which will fall to the ground and the dogs like to eat it. I was a bit nervous and found out that unless they eat a ton of it, it is not harmful. This only occurs i believe in the fall for a few weeks. Overall nice place. Check it out! read more

Being a dog trainer, I have gone to many dog parks in Las Vegas an Henderson. Although there are many parks that are cleaner, nicer, larger and more accommodating to families and definitely more accommodating for parking, this park isn't the worst on the list. Parking as I mentioned above is scarce. A parking "lot" is not existent. This park is smack dab in the middle of a neighborhood which is great for saftey, however disgruntled homeowners are prevalent. A tip for you is "don't park near someone's home!" I definitely know I'll return to this park, frankly because it's close. But my suggestion to Las Vegas and Henderson is this..... Other states like Oregon have a card system in order to get into their top dog parks. The card is connected to the city which has vaccine records on it. Pet owners have to pay at the city a fee to get the records for vaccines put on the card. If the vaccines expire the card gets turned off. Obviously there's a card swipe system in order to get into the gate of the park. No current vaccines on the card then you don't get entry to the park. Highly suggest this so that Las Vegas and Henderson do not have outbreaks of disease or parasites! Also the information of the pet is on the card as well.The pet has to be spayed or neutered to get a card and must be licensed with the city! To me it's a no brainer! But again it is Just a suggestion! read more

I'm a fan of it being within close proximity to my house, but the fact that the dog park comprises of mainly dirt makes me less than excited to bring my dog here. The park is never too busy and the owners I have encountered have trained their pups well. Any chance I have to Momo socialize with others is great. Being located next to the interstate makes it loud and chaotic. Most of the dogs stick to the inner areas due to the noise. The play areas are broken down into three sections; large, small, and mixed dog parks. I usually like to put her with the mix due to her fascination with small canines. Just keep an eye out so that our tiny friends don't get hurt. The grass area in the middle of the park is fantastic for her to run around in, but it is less than ideal when their is a full crowd. read more

Excellent trail for a late night run! My friend and I ran 4 miles at night on the paved trail. The trail was brightly lit and safe too! We ran at night so we didn't get to see much of the scenery or surroundings, but I would definitely come back for a run during the day. There is a safe parking lot for you to park your car in right next to a playground! Located in a nice, clean, and quiet neighborhood so bring your kids, dogs, and yourself for a nice, relaxing getaway! read more

It can get dusty out here since there's no grass. But the dogs all love it and they're not bothered by dust! I just recently started coming here with a dog that I'm fostering and I've met a few of the regular dogs and their owners. Nice people and it's interesting to come into a community of people I didn't know existed. Dog owners are generally nice people with a lot of patience. Many strike up conversations to get to know your pet and tell you about theirs. I've never had an issue with parking. It's been easy every weekday morning even at the busy time of 8:30 to 10:30am. Most mornings before 10am you'll find a lot of dogs at the park. You'll get another group out there towards the end of the day too. I've gone there around 12 or 1pm and there's folks out there too. It's rare that we're out there alone. read more

I had wanted to go to this park for awhile...I could see it from St. Rose Pkwy but didn't know how to get there. Thankfully my co-worker knew how to get there and gave me directions. If you are coming from the 215, headed S. on Eastern then you will take a Left at Ione. Follow the brown "Cactus Wren City Park" signs and you're there! My favorite part is all of the grass. It's hilarious to watch my dogs roll around on it! I also appreciate the 3 separate dog areas. There isn't a specific designation for small, large and mixed so you can take your dog in whichever one you prefer. I haven't had any issues with people or other dogs here. Everyone has been very friendly. I'm an Assistant Organizer for a French Bulldog Meet Up group and this is the Henderson/South Las Vegas location I designated for our meet ups. Love this dog park! Three dog areas - one for small dogs (less than 25lbs), one for large dogs (more than 25lbs), and a mix area. Both the small & large dog runs have plenty of shade & benches. I've been to both at different times throughout the day (noon, early afternoon, evening) & have been able to find shade to stand/sit in each time. Each run has a mix of sections of dirt & grass. My only complaint is that in the large dog run, there is a section of dirt with lots of dog poop. Usually owners are great about picking up after their dogs when I'm in there, but beware if you're absent mindedly walking around in there. The large dog run is long enough for fetch to be possible and fun. There's a water fountain right outside the fenced area, and it works and the water that comes out is cool! So it's very convenient to refill your dog bowl there. And if you're bringing a dog to a dog park, you and your dog are going to get dirty. Some dog is going to jump on your lap and/or slobber over you. Expect that and dress appropriately. I don't know why people are complaining about the dirt... Anyways, I think it's a great park! there's also a nice paved sidewalk that loops you through other parts of the park. There's a skateboard park inside, which is pretty cool, a grass beach volleyball court (though I've never seen any group use it...), a shaded plastic jungle gym, covered picnic areas, and a baseball field). It's a very family friendly park. Wished I lived in that neighborhood so that I could walk there with my pup! read more

Pretty park, not over crowded. Infact my dogs was the only ones in the area the whole morning :( so much for socialization for the pooches. Why on earth though would they put a park under commercial grade power lines! So if your pregnant or have a small baby I would probably avoid this park to avoid exposure to the massive EMFs. Just to be on the safe side! But if you have kids the skate park area and the basketball area is nice and not full of undesirables. read more

This was a cool Park in a nice place to take the kids or the dog for a walk the dog park is pretty bad getting I would say it's pretty nice the only bad part about it it's kind of weird is that the telephone pole support lines are inside the dog park so if you thought of running around and not paying attention I can run right into one of these support cables and ginger itself so I'm always a little leery about putting my pooch run full speed and trying to guide it away from those areas when my dog gets running cause my dog's not always paying attention to stuff sticking out of the ground other than that they have a walkway over Rose Parkway really nice that has great views of Las Vegas and I attached a couple pictures that I thought everybody might like to see because Las Vegas such a beautiful city especially when you're in Henderson. read more

I found this dog park through yelp and decided to bring my 3 year old Pom-chi to this place today. It definitely is spacious. There are three sections, 1 for small dogs, 1 for medium dogs, and 1 for big dogs. But that doesn't really matter if your dog enjoys playing with dogs of all sizes. The first thing that caught my eye about this park was how well kept it is despite the dead grass lol which is understandable since we are in the desert. There are trash cans and a water fountain for your dog's needs which is cool because usually you provide your own bags and stuff. My dog enjoyed it here. There were lots of dogs for her to play with. She even enjoyed the benches even if those are for us haha. I would definitely bring my dog here again. I just wish they had more dog parks that were like a play ground for dogs. If there wasn't any dogs here then it would not have been as fun for my four legged pal. read more

I would give zero stars if it was possible, or maybe -3. The people here on yelp actually called this a good dog park so I wasted my time driving here with my very excited dogs. We pull up and it just looks like someone took a lot of land that was covered in dirt and rocks and they put a really crappy fence around it. The biggest gaping holes in the fence I've ever seen. There are 3 areas for dogs to play. Mixed, small and large. The small dog area was busy today. Everyone was friendly. There were 4-5 people and about 7 dogs. The large dog area with one dog. Plenty of shade in the small dog area how no shade in mixed dog area. There was no dog poo. I will be back again. The pups had a good time. read more

This park was great for our Australian Shepard - the large dog area has a strip of grass and a larger pebbled area. There was no dog waste in the area and the people were friendly. There was also water fountain right outside of the high fenced area. There is also a large open green grass baseball and recreation area (not fenced), a skatepark area, and a walkway. read more

This was my very first Doggy Park and it did not let me down. We have a new 4 month old puppy (the age they have to be to go to puppy parks apparently) and we want to keep her interacting with other dogs and people as much as possible. She loved it. There are 3 separate sections and they are good size sections. I didn't notice if certain sized dogs needed to stay in a particular section but we tried out two of them. I have taken my dog here 5 - 6 time. There are plenty of space with three sections,1 big one usually people with big dogs are using, and 2 small ones. It is nice place that you can talk to other dog owners and let your dogs play together. Also It is always pretty clean which means everyone clean after their pets. (I'm sick of dog owners don't clean after their pets but you notice there are surprisingly many of those owners out there, if you take a walk on St. Rose Parkway Trail just nearby this park.) My dog is not good at being around too many other dogs so I try to avoid busy times and when I took her after dark one time, I didn't feel safe enough just because there were not enough lights and went home so I with there were more lights at night time. The dog park is small and has three runs. The small dog run terrain was mixed with an area of grass, and dirt. there is a nice tree so it offers shade. There is a drinking fountain just outside he run and people have left dog bowls of water in each run. Personally I did not let Henry drink from them because it is standing water and there is no way to tell if it is safe from viruses and bacteria that other dogs may harbor. I used the park today because I happened to be in the area, however I would not go out of my way like I would for Bark Park with their amenities. It is a great neighborhood park. read more

This place is right around the corner from the house. Its a good place to take your dog and let it run around for a little bit. Its nice that there are different sections for each type of dog (Small, Medium, Large) so your purse dog isn't mauled by a real, full sized dog. As with all dog parks its up to the dog owner to make it enjoyable or not... It drives me nuts that there are a few people that insist on showing up with their dogs and refuse to scoop their poop or be respectful of others. read more
