I loved Cafe de Mars! We found it on yelp for lunch after taking (lots) of pictures of the Eiffel Tower. Its a short walk from the tourist congested tower, however once you turn down the street the cafe is located on, you'll find a nice quiet stroll where tourists seem to have disappeared (as well as the obnoxious men selling cheap Eiffel Tower statues - ugh!). We were greeted and sat down right away, and brought the menu on a chalkboard, although it was also posted up on the main wall for all to see as well. After struggling a bit with our translation book, the waiter came over and asked if we would like for him to translate the menu for us. Yes please! We shared the mussels (which I think in my menu picture is the one starting with 'Pot marrous aux 5 epices but I'm not sure!) which we both loved! They bring an extra plate for the shells, so we took them all out of the shells to start, and then enjoyed it like a soup. They were smaller than I have seen for mussels before, and had a fennel flavored broth with lots of flavor. For the main course I had the fish (I'm not sure which one on the menu this was) which was amazing! It had a rich creamy sauce that had mustard seeds in it which gave the sauce a nice light crunch and added some texture to it. My husband had the pork (duo de chochon) which was very tender with a mild rosemary flavor to it. Of course its not a meal in France without dessert! I had the goat (cheese) cheesecake topped with blueberries, which was of course delicious! I would highly recommend Cafe de Mars if you are in the area! read more

First time in Paris and this was the first meal we had. We came for lunch right when they were opening and the staff was more than welcoming. The service was beyond and the food was DELICIOUS. The menu was written on a board and our server's recommendation for me was the pork and banana/bacon risotto... wow is all I have to say! They also had live music which was so enjoyable. Truly a gem find. We've been in Paris a couple of days now and struggled to find the true culinary experience we'd been hoping for, until tonight. Two words: Goat Cheesecake. Flavorful, light, delicious. For a nice night out. When the plates of beef and trout came out, we were a little surprised. They were intricate but smaller than we had expected. However, upon a first bite, we realized this place really was authentic. The flavors were incredible, and there is nothing more to if than a chez who knows how to cook well. Their menu changes often, but I am fairly confident whatever you get will be well made. If they have the goat cheesecake that day, that really is a must. It may be the best dessert I have ever eaten. Prices are around 20 for each plat, 10 for each entree or dessert, and moderately priced for drinks. I would definitely go for lunch if you can, where they have a very well priced fixed menu with the same dishes as dinner. What a wonderful place. When you walk away from the Eiffel Tower you are bombarded by souvenirs and the aggressive panhandlers. You continue along the street seeing brick and mortar souvenir shops and overpriced tourist trap cafes. If you go one more block east, you can get a glimpse of Paris for Parisians. This gem is on a quiet little street with minimal traffic. Once you spot this small cafe with 8 or so tables you are unsure of their cuisine. Don't judge this book by its cover. As we perused the black board menu we saw different international twists on Parisian food. They also have delicious vegetarian options. As we sat down, the owners were gracious hosts and fluent in many languages. They made us feel instantly comfortable. The wine list is short, but cultivated and features the major wine regions for a decent price. We started our journey with foie on toast with peach lavender jam and avocado soup with chili oil. We then enjoyed pork loin with kohlrabi and strawberry compote and sambal flavored butternut squash over black rice with a delicious coconut cream. The desert was equally amazing with goat cheese cheesecake and dark chocolate flourless cake. I will be recommending and possibly visiting again while we are in Paris. What a great find!! read more

This is a small restaurant with some great dishes. Only a limited selection but great food. I saw quite a few locals too which is a good sign. We had the charcuterie and foie gras for starters. For the entrees the flank steak, lamb should and bacon cheeseburger. For dessert the goat cheesecake and lacquered peach. A friend recommended this restaurant and it did not disappoint. Not only was the food fresh and delicious but the staff was personable and helpful. We left a cell phone at the table and the manager ran down the street to catch up with us and return it. This quiet cafe, walking distance from the Eiffel Tower, was the perfect ending to our first day visiting Paris. One of the best meals I've had in my life, no exaggeration. This is a must go to place if you are visiting Paris. They change their menu every week, and have various different types of foods. I had a steak that was marinated in delicious red wine sauce with mushrooms, creamy mashed potatoes, and goat cheese cake with blueberries. This was one of the recommended places in Steve rick's book, and it was one of the best recommendations. 10/10 recommend, I would love to eat here again if I had time. read more

We had a totally fabulous lunch at this darling café very close to the Eiffel tower! Our teenagers loved the cat, moose, and Maria the manager was amazing. After spending time at the Eiffel Tower, it's likely you're hungry. So many tourist trap restaurants in the neighborhood but this is not one of them and reservations are highly recommend. We made a reservation via Facebook from the states and we're sure glad we did. Upon arrival at 730pm, we were greeted by two of their friendly staff. Both spoke English and the young lady was actually from Nebraska. She was so helpful, friendly and knowledgeable about the food, Paris and life in general. We enjoyed this bistro so much we came back the next night too! The menu is a small menu that changes somewhat from day to day. I had started with the foie gras which was delicious and then ordered the Salmon. My wife had the tuna appetizer and then the steak entree, both amazing. Wine was terrific and while this is not an inexpensive bistro, it is our favorite in all of Paris! read more

American tourists should steer clear of this place. My wife and I were very much taken advantage of and overcharged by the restaurant staff - by roughly 3x. We live in New York City and travel regularly, so when our bill (for 5 glasses of Champagne) came to 155 Euro - I probably should have known enough to challenge our blond haired waiter, especially after he insisted on a tip (not customary for France). Unfortunately, we were in a rush to make our dinner reservation and I did not challenge the massive price tag. However, I felt compelled to write this review after looking at their menu prices while in our taxi. A glass of Champage is 10 Euro, as listed on their website and also listed on this menu. So after a quick stop for a few drinks, we ended up paying about 3 times more than we should have and roughly 1.5 times that of our most expensive dinner in the city. I do not normally write poor reviews but this time I felt compelled to at least warn other people about this place given its high review score. Please be careful friends and instead of coming here and questioning my review, I suggest not taking the chance and just walk to the cafe across the street. read more

I don't know why there are not more reviews for this wonderful French restaurant by the Eiffel Tower. It was amazing! For starters we had the asparagus and the salad. Both were presented beautifully. For dinner we had the lamb sausage and the beef in pastry. Another beautiful presentation and so so flavorful. For desert we had the chocolate cake and a goat cheese cheese cake. Words can't describe how great it was. The service was fantastic as well. Our waiter was always on point with refills and asking if we needed anything. The only little problem we had was trying to get his attention to get the bill. Not really his fault, it is a small place and he was busy with two very large tables at the other end of the restaurant. We will recommend this small delicious cafe to anyone we know coming to Paris. We went here for our first dinner in Paris because it received such glowing Yelp reviews. Our experience, though certainly not unpleasant, also wasn't much to write home about. One thing you should know (that we didn't), is that the menu changes daily, so the awesome food descriptions you see here likely won't be in effect when you go. Because of this, the menu is also very limited: there were only four entrees available when we were there, none of which were particularly appealing to me at that particular time. For us, the food seemed hit or miss. Our foie gras appetizer was only okay...a big slab of cold, rather solid pate (as opposed to the gooey warm deliciousness we had other nights at other restaurants). Ditto with our beef: it was a little too chewy, and the red wine sauce a little too single-note to be really outstanding. On the other hand, our dining companion's fish, with a Thai-derivative peanut sauce, was light and flavorful and pretty amazing. Our waiter rejected my (admittedly crappy) French and spoke English to us, but did not seem particularly pleased about it. We opted to go elsewhere for dessert. read more

My friend is a regular of Café de Mars and she brought me here for a meal on a Thursday night. I was warmly greeted as I entered the restaurant and the staff were friendly in general (a nice change from your typical Parisian bistro.). We came here thinking that the menu price continued into the evening but the set deal is only available at lunch. This made dinner slightly more expensive than we had planned and perhaps a little over priced for what we got. However the food was definitely great - I had the lamb tagine with orange flavoured couscous that was absolutely delicious with just the right amount of sweetness. It was a good portion size too and the bread was a sourdough bake. Yum. I had the gateau chocolat for dessert - moreish, rich, soft in the middle. It was very well done and I am a particularly fussy chocolate cake eater. Not the best I have ever had and it was served simply with a small blob of unidentifiable cream of some sort. It could have been served with a little bit more 'something' for the price I paid. The waitress suggested a lovely red to accompany our meal and the overall ambience of the restaurant was very pleasant. I would recommend this place to anyone in the area - however be prepared to pay a bit extra for the privilege of eating in the 7th. read more
