Super cool vibe inside with friendly staff and owners who are always on site, sometimes with her little girl which is adorable. Good food, heavy on the meat and cheese, fried everything (almost!) but there are 2 good salads but I'd like without any cheese! Place is former diner so you can find a comfy booth. We had the Cubano and a La Bomba, both very good. Children's corner with toys so they can stay entertained. Service was a bit slow but cordial. Got the eggs Benedict with chicken -- eggs were cooked perfectly, the hollandaise sauce was delicious and the plantain base was like a little potato pancake/latke. So good! My fiancé got the poutine and it was masssssive! He got two full meals out of. And yes, the desserts are definitely as good as they look. The dessert case is dangerous, but delicious! read more

I will say, the food is pretty fantastic. My eggs beni came out a bit cold, but the taste made up for it. My gripe is the small portions at astronomical prices. Beans and plantains are so cheap. I feel if serving sizes on these particular items were beefed up, this spot would be such a home run. I would at least grin and bear the prices if I were served a heaping plate of food. I think it would draw so much more of Colchester's audience with this small change. Another small blip, our waitress forgot our cafe con leche. She offered to make it right at checkout, but we were on a time crunch leaving for a road trip and couldn't wait for it. 20 minutes into our trip we stopped at McDonald's because we were still so hungry. I implore you, rethink your portion sizes. The food is really wonderful, but this first trip will be my last based on the cost and portion sizes. read more

OMG. Absolutely busting! We ordered takeout, but upon going inside we saw that the restaurant is so well decorated and feels spacious as soon as you get inside. Def will be going back to eat in next time. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The food was absolutely delicious. Now I know what the fuss is all about. We both had empanadas. Mine with a day's special, stuffed with chicken and waffles. It was smashing. Somehow light and rich all at once. Maria and her team are doing something special. At 1:30 on a Thursday, it was quite full and you could tell everybody was more than happy to be there. The vibe is true to the 'hood (Colchester) but they've brought along an island (DR) and Philly-Italian sensibility. Absolutely fantastic experience. We WILL be back! read more

Definitely a sucker for their ever-changing rotation of baked goods! You can tell a ton of love and passion goes into everything created for this place, down to the CUTEST little kid play area while you wait in line for a table for Saturday brunch. Had THE BEST breakfast at Cafe Mamajuana this past week! The Tres Leches French Toast and the La Bomba (pork roll, egg and cheese) were both ridiculously good. Everything was fresh and delicious and perfect. As someone who grew up in North Jersey, I feel like I know a little something about pork roll, egg and cheese. The Vermont made 5th Quarter Pork Roll, the slab of fried cheese and the perfectly cooked egg on a delicious roll make it one of the best the best, and maybe the best, I've ever had anywhere ever. And we agree that the Tres Leches French toast is our new favorite French toast. The service was friendly and attentive and we felt very comfortable and welcome. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! Also: Apologies for not taking pictures but there was no way we could have paused for a photo shoot when those plates arrived...we had to dive right in. And, I know the pork roll/Taylor Ham debate still rages on but seeing as the 5th Quarter Pork Roll is a distinct and unique Vermont product, I decided "pork roll" was the most appropriate term to use in this review. The maduros (fried sweet plantains) -- chef's kiss. The plantain stuffed with slow-cooked pork, rice, beans, pickled red onions, topped with three kinds of salsa transported me DIRECTLY TO HEAVEN, do not pass go, do not collect $200. I discovered Cafe Mamajuana through a local online news site. I immediately started following the Instagram page and everything looks delicious. I was mostly excited about a new food option with spices! I stopped at a pop-up and tried the empanadas. They were delicious. There is a huge variety in case you have any dietary restrictions. When Maria opened up her storefront, we stopped in on the first day and we're so satisfied. I've been wanting to go back for a bit but it's a little away from home and is open about 4-5 days a week. Cafe Mamajuana is a hidden restaurant in the north end that teleports you out of vermont. The menu is unique and well thought out- its no wonder they were nominated for a james beard award! I got the Pescado Frito (fried red snapper) after seeing that they finally had it back in stock and was thoroughly impressed. The fish was perfectly cooked, and tasted incredible. We had a graduation party catered by Café Mamajuana this past weekend, and it was fantastic! We got a variety of dishes: maduros, canoas, empenadas, jerk wings, rice, beans, a couple salads and more. Every bite was delicious. Maria was a pleasure to work with and made planning easy, and prepared a beautiful menu for us. The food was carefully packaged with all the toppings kept separate, so everything was fresh and delicious when served. All of our guests enjoyed the food immensely. UUF, LOVED our takeout dinner. Per Dominican partner, delicious- though he prefers his mom's arroz con gandules :) more for me lol. Everything fresh and beautiful. Some of the best empanadas-- pork, beef were our favorites. Bean, cheese empanadas both tasty but couldn't help imagining a bean + cheese empanada baby... Jicama salad, solid chimi, tostones stuffed grilled cheese loaded with perfectly seasoned mushrooms mmm. We love the pork and chicken empanadas and tried the chicken and waffles version tonight and it was amazing, highly recommend trying.
