This review is about the branch of Arandas in Fairlee VT that opened recently. I really want to like this place, as it would be so great to have a decent little Mexican joint in our little gas station... However, I've been 4 times and it seems just too expensive for the small portions they provide. Usually a good mexican joint will at least load your plate with beans and rice to fill you up, but today I got 2 small tamales and a small scoop of bland black beans (with a container of sour cream) that ran me $20, and the tamales (pork) were too salty. Just not enough food for the price of these dishes. Very hopefull they can improve. read more

Got tacos samples 5 pieces with different filling - almost like in Mexico City, MX Got an order of churros and they were awesome - if you would add for extra cost hot chocolate for dipping - they would be outstanding ( but cannot complain Highly Recommend this place. We stumbled across this place when it first opened and it was the best local as well as affordable street MEX food stop in the area by far. After the 1st year, something changed in their spices which meant doing only the pork nachos on occasion. At that point you could do 2xBurritos and Nachos for ~46$ Post flood, I came over to try the burrito dinner an BAMM the food and spice balance was back to normal. Alleluia! However what wasn't the same , was the prices.~+40%.$20.32 dollars for just a burrito with side of rice and beans? I ate at the location in Montpelier in the sunoco this place is awesome! great vibe the aesthetic is wonderful and i went in craving a gas taco. I got the carne asada taco with the rice and refried beans and for vermont this is some of the best authentic Mexican food you can get. I also had the nachos and they weren't what i expected but they were still pretty decent. the picture on the menu just didn't compare to what i received i had expected jalapenos but if this establishment was in burlington el gato would be out of business. I was in town (hungry) and thought I'd give this place a try. So ambience 5*'s service 5*'s. Food was terrific, although I got the torte (sandwich) I subbed out meat for avacado which was nice. The bread was a nice quality, except I'd recommend eating right away otherwise your in for a soggy bottom :/. Lovely festive atmosphere I'm most certainly coming back to try something else. On a side note it IS touch pricey especially if you have kiddos to feed with their kids special at $10.99! That's gonna get expensive real quick. Amazing authentic Mexican Food! My husband and I were in the zone and thought of trying. It was absolutely delicious, and the staff treated us so well that it's become the only place we want to go every time we are in Barre. The horchata water was amazing, the chilaquiles a little spicy in salva verde but pretty good. I loved the quesadillas and the guacamole and chips were excellent. Definitely worth stopping. Tasty and cute. Blink and you will miss it; the restaurant is next to (and occupies the same building as) a Home and Garden store. Delicious food, cheerful environment, and fun ambiance with indoor air conditioning or outdoor tables. Everything served take-out with a large bottled drink cooler and there are picnics tables both indoors and outdoors. There is also Gifford's Ice Cream by the scoop. Ok food, but dishonest staff. We mistakenly ordered food to this location due to a quirk in their online ordering system (meant to order to another location), so called immediately to cancel the order. We were assured by staff that they would cancel the order and refund us, so we placed an order with the location we meant to order from. We followed up several days later when we had not been refunded and were again assured that they would refund us. Still has not happened. As is, we ended up paying 100 bucks for a mediocre burrito, some tacos, and small bowl of guacamole. Strongly recommend avoiding. read more

The food was made fresh and was delicious! I had (5) Carne Asada tacos. Could only eat 2 and brought the rest home. Made for a great dinner the next night too! Highly recommend this place. my boyfriend and i ordered from this restaurant the other night. we were so ex to try a new (to us) restaurant. we ordered online and picked up our food only to be disappointed when we got home. he ordered the quesadillas and said they didn't look anything like what was pictured. i ordered the nachos and they definitely were not anything i was expecting. the meat and beans tasted like it came from a can. on top was some stale chips with melted cheese. i made a face post and the owner commented to reach out to her and i did 3 days ago with still no response. very disappointed in the food quality we were given and the lack of professionalism we were given. i could have made that myself . or fed my whole family a meal with the money spent on this. read more

This being a new Mexican restaurant in our area, we thought we would give it a try.There were six of us and we each had something different from the menu. All of us were very pleased with the quality and the amount of food served and the prices were reasonable. I had the 12 inch steak burrito and was only able to eat half of it. They serve a green chili that is spicy hot, but not too hot. The rice and refried beans were very good. All of these meals were takeout. It's probably best to call your order in ahead of time. I love Vermont for it's hole-in-the-wall gems like the late Indian restaurant/gas station in West Rutland. There's some seriously good eats to be had if you can find them. Arandas is no different. Attached to a garden center with an adorable cat, Arandas serves the real deal Mexican food; the best I've had in the region. This is a great place to order authentic Me Ivan take out. The most (if not only) authentic Mexican food outside a farmers market in Vermont. Everything we ordered was the real deal: tamales, enchiladas, Chile Reno. Equal to anything you might find in the Bay Area where we have lived. That said, the prices are not comparably cheap, especially for the portion size (tamales) but definitely justifiable. There are picnic tables and quaint decor for dine in but everything is served in take out containers regardless so don't go seeking ambiance or for candlelight date night. We ordered the tacos al pastor and the chicken taquitos. We also ordered the chips and salsa. The tacos and the taquitos were both good. The chips and salsa was about 10 chips with pico de gallo. I did not think that was a good deal or what I was actually expecting. Pricing was kind of expensive but I do realize everything is going up at this time. read more

This place is legit. It's Mexican comfort food so it'll be cheesy and sort of sloppy, but delicious. It's not tex-mex like most Mexican places in the northeast, but real Mexican food. We have been on the road for the past week and I was craving good Mexican food. We definitely found it here! I had the tacos al pastor, which were phenomenal - so full of flavor. The onion, pineapple, cilantro were finely diced making it easy to keep everything together for each bite. The spicy green salsa had some serious back heat...you don't feel it right away but when you do...whew! My hubby likes less spice/heat and went for the chicken quesadillas. Filled with lots of cheese and flavorful chicken, they were a great hit. We ate out of to go containers at a picnic table.
