This is my favorite Mexican restaurant and for sure the top 3 for places to eat in Stilly. I ordered crepes without the chocolate sauce and whip cream, the Snoopy drink and also the breakfast burrito. SO GOOD!!!! Service is always wonderful as if you're dining at a friend's. When we walked in multiple staff members greeted us kindly with a smile. Our waitress was very kind and personable. This is Stillwater's hidden gem. The coffee is the best part. When you are seated and immediately get served a plate of homemade chips and salsa, you know you're in for a treat. Café Mona has an informal atmosphere. No fuss, but clean. They serve delicious Mexican food. We got the El Gordito (meats plus jalapeño and pineapple), which was such a nuanced explosion of flavors! We also got the chilaquiles, which is pretty much fried chips smothered in red mole sauce with steak tips, guacamole, cilantro, onion, and an egg. It was so good. What a great experience for breakfast this morning! Service was top notch. The manager even visited the tables to check on the customers. We usually eat the hotel breakfast when traveling but it was a no, so we headed out and lucked out on Cafe Mona. We split the migas plate. It was plenty of food for two people. It came with corn tortillas that were warm and fresh. The migas were a perfect ratio of eggs, tortillas and seasoning. They were seasoned so savory with a hint of spice. The plate came with home fried potatoes, nicely seasoned. Oh and the refried brand were very tasty too! We paid $15 with tip. Excellent value, wonderful food and great service. Service was nonexistent! 4 people at our table with an order of queso, we had to walk up and find someone to give us more chips. TWO TIMES! It was the same for refills on drinks, nonexistent. We would have to chase someone down to get us refills. The requested lemons for the tea came when we were almost completely done with our meals. The eggs were warm (only), the fried potatoes were cold, soft and shriveled.. appeared they were previously microwaved or something. So I ordered Machaca Norteno and 2 tacos and my friend ordered the pistol Pete burrito. Based on the reviews I was excited. When I got back and opened the food that excitement was diminished. I thought they had rolled my flour tortillas up in some foil.... Wrong that was the burrito if that gives you any idea of how small it was I thought it was rolled up tortillas. They didn't give me any tortillas. I opened my matcha nortena and it was the most bland unseasoned shredded beef in eggs. I have had this dish before and it is one of my favorite but not from here. The tacos I got were the same bland. My friend was more than disappointed in the burrito and still very hungry.The Agua Fresca was great.... Except all I got was a cup of mainly ice. Café Mona Has Some Real Deal Authentic Mexican Meals! I like all versions of Mexican food: Tex-Mex, New Mex, Authentic Mex, Taco Bell and even some versions of Californian Mexican food. Stillwater's little Café Mona, concealed in a strip mall on the north side of town may be a hidden gem for "Authentic Mexican Food." Let's get to it! Starting with the chips served with their excellent salsa. Be sure to ask for the hotter version of the salsa. Neither is really that hot so, if you are like me you may still need to add some of the commercially made bottled hot sauce on the table. But, the café made sauces are good. You will notice that the chips are obviously hand cut small triangles, from corn tortillas and fried there; not commercially made chips! My wife ordered the Enchiladas Rojas: three Queso Fresco enchiladas topped in authentic red mole enchilada sauce and served with potatoes, carrots in a delicious Adobo sauce. It also came with rice and a small lettuce, tomato and sour cream salad on the plate. My wife loved the Queso Fresco in the enchiladas with the delicious sauces on them and the vegetables! The sauces on both meals were fantastic! Great Meal! I had to try something I have never heard of, the Chilaquiles Mexicanos. This was their tortillas chips smothered with their red mole sauce. The big plate of chips and sauce was then loaded with chopped grilled steak, queso fresco, red onion, and cilantro. Then the whole thing was topped off with a dollop of sour cream, guacamole, and crowned with a fried egg! Refried beans on the side! This was a big delicious filling meal! 1st time there.... This will definitely be our future stop in Stillwater/perkins when we want Mexican! Chips are crunchy, salsa is really pico de gallo (yum!) and they have some warmer salsas if you're looking for some heat! I'm we had a burrito and street tacos. They fixed my burrito as requested (I'm a little picky) and the el pastor on the tacos was super juicy and flavorful. Sides were great as well and the $4 margaritas were good too!
