We really enjoyed this cute cafe located just across from Notre Dame. My in-laws were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary and this cute spot is where we decided to celebrate with them. I booked a table for 10 guests, since we had the full family in Paris to celebrate. It was perfect and they sat us at a wonderful spot inside. The cafe overlooks Notre Dame and feels ever-so-french. Our server was very friendly and super accommodating for all our needs. That says a lot for Paris! All of the food was very tasty. I can share that my Croque Monsieur was one of the best meals I ate in Paris. Everyone else really enjoyed their meals as well. Overall, this place was perfect to celebrate such a momentous occasion. Cafe Panis is a short walk across the bridge from Notre Dame and where I had dinner after my visit. I ordered a peach flavored tea to drink along with some beef bourginon at 19.50€. A small basket of popcorn and water arrived first. Then a basket of french bread was delivered. Just a few minutes later my entree arrived in a bowl of meat, potatoes and gravy. This dish was savory in flavor with the meat being very tender and the roasted potatoes being delicious too. Finally the bread and gravy were pleasing and made this a filling meal (4). The Fuze Peach Tea was also good tasting at 7€ for 1 glass. I know that French table service can be very slow according to American standards but this experience was worse than expected. I believe I still would be there waiting to pay my bill if I hadn't forced the issue. Another lunch stop near Notre Dame. And again, packed. Still, we were seated quickly and our waiter was exceptionally helpful. My wife decided to please her "sweet tooth" and ordered a cappuccino and pastry plate. She devoured the two chocolate entrees, and shared with me a superb strawberry cheesecake bite. I tried to take a slightly healthier approach and ordered a Thai salad with chicken. Lettuce, cabbage, carrots and mint topped with Thai grilled chicken. Delicious. Situated just right across from Notre Dame this is the perfect spot for a quick drink or bite. The hostess out front was shocked when we asked for a table outside. It had been sprinkling throughout the day. There was a free spot at the corner, on the opposite side of the main street. Our corner was the spot where all the uber drivers picked up and dropped off passengers. It was a popular corner. My sister got an americano and crepe. I got a pint to prep for dinner. Let me tell you something , I was tipsy by the time we had to leave. My favorite thing about dropping by a cafe is you get to use their bathroom facilities. The service was great. The guy who waited on us didn't even write down our order. The food coming out the kitchen when I passed the bar area smelled so good. Happy I did as I was able to partake in French cuisine and glad to report I enjoyed it. First up escargot. Won't lie I was a bit hesitant. Just seeing the shells and thinking " snails" but I put on my big girl panties and dig in. I chose a great spot to experience. It was flavorful and well seasoned. A bit chewy but must admit I enjoyed it. Next up frog legs. Although well presented this was another test of grit. Psyched myself up and took that first bite. Once again well seasoned and flavorful. Meat tender and don't want to say but had a similar consistency to chicken. I'm glad I chose this cafe to be adventurous. Also the feel and energy I felt like a Parisian out for a bite. The little round tables, petite chairs only thing to make complete if I was seated outside but it was too cold. Offered to my son and surprisedly he accepted and tried and he also enjoyed. You truly can't beat the location just a few steps away from Notre Dame. The ambiance is quaint and exactly what you'd expect from a classic Parisian brasserie, and prices felt fair given the setting. Service really stood out. Our waiter, originally from Romania, provided impeccable service and spoke multiple languages fluently. We were especially impressed by the kindness and compassion he showed toward an elderly gentleman seated near our table: his attentiveness and care were genuinely touching and added a very human element to the experience. We ordered the onion soup and the foie gras, both of which were enjoyable and well prepared. The only downside was noticing a small mouse as we were leaving. When we mentioned it, we were told that this has unfortunately become a broader issue in the area following the Notre Dame fire. The beef was tender and tasty, the potato wedges were fried, the carrots were perfectly braised and the red wine sauce sang a siren's song beckoning the French bread to dive in. English speaking waiter. We walked to Notre Dame and were feeling hungry. We stopped in this restaurant, which is right across the canal from Notre Dame; we could see it from our table. Our waiter spoke English, which was very helpful, and he was extremely friendly. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful and relaxing. There is seating outside but it was full and there were large crowds walking by the tables, so we opted for a more comfortable inside seat for our meal. I ordered the Beef Bourguignon and it was very good. My wife got the rigatoni and it was also very good. After our meals we ordered the Irish coffee. It was loaded high with whipped cream and was delicious. We had a great experience here, loved the food and the drinks so we would definitely come here again. We needed some lunch on a rainy day and saw this cafe near Notre Dame and decided to take a chance. The food was decent with some things being better than others- my croque madam- a glorified ham and cheese was tasty. French fries were just a meh - I was on a roll eating fries every day on this vacation but these were not worth the calories and stayed on the plate. They were out of the dessert of the day a chocolate pear Charlotte that I was looking forward to trying so that was a bit of a disappointment. Did get to try escargot- luckily it was only 6 in an order. Okay, so this place is surprisingly good. Or, at least it is for breakfast. We walked by it many times since it was so near our hotel. We always carefully avoided it due to its touristy appearance and its dangerous name, only one vowel away from disaster. However, one early morning we walked by it again, in an attempt to find a different breakfast place nearby. Sadly, that other cafe seemed to be a victim of COVID, or at least it was closed, contrary to the posted hours. Though I was hungry, I am always willing to go the extra mile for good food. My husband, on the other hand, was just hungry and cranky and willing to go anywhere at all. I was still wary of Cafe Panis, located conveniently across the river from the famous Notre-Dame cathedral, but hubby was just happy enough that they appeared to be open. At least, I think they were open. The door was open, but no one else was in there, and staff was busy cleaning the windows. I didn't notice any posted hours to know for sure, but they pointed us toward an empty table all the same. A friendly waitress soon appeared to take our order. We each ordered breakfast, of a sort. I went for the "Parisien" iteration, whereas my husband got the huge Continental breakfast. I think this is an instance where a picture really is worth a thousand words, but suffice it to say that both of our breakfasts were surprisingly good, and not a bad value, either! Stopping in here for breakfast wound up being a happy surprise. After my experience, I can now suggest going to Cafe Panis for breakfast, even on purpose. read more

The family wanted to eat here which was the closest restaurant nearest the Notre Dame. About 2pm, we arrive and the manager / owner seated us promptly. However after that, the waiter service was about to go downhill. The waiter took his sweet time and ignored us. We had to flag down the manager to get the waiter to attend to us. I ordered in my best French (6 years in junior/high school) but obvious that the waiter was more annoyed at my basic French. He mumbled in French which I understood to mean "ignorant capitalist"... We then receive our order and the crepe my son ordered was not as described and again had to flag the manager. Waiter was more than annoyed and returned with the correct dish. My salad was an awful mess - no taste - no flavor. After this restaurant, I never went to another French restaurant and instead went to Asian restaurant which was night and day difference in service. It's true, even after 30 years after my last visit to Paris, the Parisians are still rude, condescending, and lost my respect. I would avoid French restaurants altogether and patronize ethnic places as they are more apt to cater to foreigners. read more

During my whirlwind visit to Paris on a rainy November Sunday, my search for a place to have my meal practically ended when I noticed the cozy interior of this restaurant in front of Notre Dame. We visited Cafe Panis for breakfast before hitting Notre Dame and I would recommend others do the same. Don't sit on the side street side, sit on the Notre Dame side to avoid tour buses and delivery trucks being your view the whole time. We got the continental breakfast that came with croissant, baguette, butter, marmalade, coffee, juice and yogurt with fruit. It was amazing, every bit of it - and quite fast. The server had limited English but enough for us to scrape by with our also limited French. So the great breakfast experience warranted a return.... Come back by here for a cheese plate and drinks and see they have beef bourguignon on the menu and cannot pass that up. Order it to share and immediately regretted not getting two. SO GOOD. Cafe Panis was DELICIOUS!! To be honest, my family and I were quite disappointed in Paris by the food. It's Paris -- everything is small and overpriced, and the exchange from euros to US dollars is like an added kick to the gut. Cafe Panis delivered though! We stopped by Cafe Panis because we were walking around Notre Dame. I'm sure that many tourists stop by this cafe since it's so close -- the servers speak English, which is an added plus for English speaking travelers. I ordered the cheeseburger (how American of me), and my family members ordered the foie gras, escargot, and duck salad. My cheeseburger was so good. Like, better than many cheeseburgers that I've had in California. The patty was juicy and thick and the fries were just the right amount of crispy. There was a salad included which was a nice palate cleanser. In California, the burger alone would have cost $15 so I didn't mind paying the 15 euros for this huge meal. I didn't try the rest of the dishes, but my aunt loved the duck salad and she was given HUGE portions of duck for her salad which she was impressed with. Similarly, my sister received a huge portion of foie gras, so much so that we had to takeaway some home because it was so delicious and she didn't want to leave it there. Additionally, the servers here are very polite. I found that many local businesses in Europe (Paris in particular) are quite rude to Americans because they know we're tourists. Our server actually gave us tons of travel tips and places that we should go and even went out of his way to write down the address for another restaurant we should try. We were very impressed by his friendliness and for the rest of the Paris trip, we kept talking about how great of a cafe this was. Overall, I definitely recommend coming here should you find yourself in Paris, particularly near Notre Dame. The food is yummy, the servers are kind, and the atmosphere will definitely make you want to come back for more. TL;DR: Cafe Panis is the place to be in Paris, especially for tourists. Once we got off the BatoBus and walked up the stairs, we were all tired and hungry. We looked across the street from Notre Dame Catheral and we saw this restaurant. I checked out the Yelp review and saw 3.5 stars. I skimmed the reviews but at this point, it didn't really matter since we were tired. Luckily, they sat us (2 adults and 4 kids) immediately at around 1:20pm. The kids ordered the the kids menu. $10 Euros includes a cheeseburger, dessert, and fries. I ordered the beef bourguignon. It's kind of like a beef stew cooked in red wine and mushrooms. It's a great French dish! My kids got the cheeseburger and steak. The steak tasted okay. Not the best steak. Just decent. We were out and about our first day in Paris, had just visited Notre Dame and the Deportation (Holocaust) Memorial and wanted to grab a drink and a bite to eat before continuing on our way. I hadn't looked into restaurant options prior to leaving our hotel (and wifi) so we just stopped and glanced at menus.* This place looked good. We were greeted promptly and seated at a table by the front window. While I appreciated the fantastic view of Notre Dame, our table and small bench seating was quite uncomfortable. I would recommend a regular table. They do have outdoor seating, although we typically avoided that, because smoking is allowed on patios. They had an IPA on the menu, so we both opted for that. My honey got a croque monsieur (grilled ham and cheese) and I got the croque madame (croque monsieur with an egg on top). The sandwich was good, although far from the best meal of our trip. If you want something easy, and close to Notre Dame, this is a decent option. *This is one really nice thing about Paris... almost all restaurants post their menu(s) outside. read more

Situated with a fabulous view of Notre Dame - in restoration mode - this restaurant has a great location and really good food. We went searching for vegetarian fare and checked out this menu. Nice variety of heirloom tomatoes, everything fresh, served with bread. My dining partner chose the Pinza Romaine for her main, a lovely flat bread pizza with fresh tomatoes. I had the Rigatoni a la Parisiennne, perfect cooked pasta in a fresh tomato sauce, reminiscent of very good Italian sauce, with a generous helping of lovely oozing burrata. The prices were reasonable and the food was delicious. The shrimp were served whole (head-on), which I was fine with, but took my companion a bit by surprise. We were served savory cheese puffs (pate a choux batter-based) prior to our entrees arriving which were quite good, in addition to what tasted like American grocery store, factory-produced baguettes (a HUGE disappointment).
