After a long day working, I walked a block down to get some soul food and I almost didn't make it back because the food had me so full and sleepy. The owner and servers were amazing! I felt special from the time I walked in until I left. The food was seasoned and came out quickly. It was fresh and very delicious!! The broccoli casserole was my favorite by far. It was so delicious. Service was friendly and fast. Most of the waiting was for the food. It was super fresh and flavorful. Everything was perfect food wise. Only downfalls were we wanted corn bread and they ran out when our food was ready. The rolls were more than likely just store bought.. Now they did send us home with a corn bread each. It was good!! I also wanted the peach cobbler but they ran out when we finished. Over all Id love to go back and enjoy some more food! The restaurant was packed with people and cute tables. This is not a fast food or quick service restaurant. It is a cook as you order restaurant. Slow but well worth the wait. I believe it is a black owned business. Been on Broad street for around 8 years. Before that near the Board of Education on side Street. Decor is early old. The building is a mess. The food is OUTSTANDING. Service is slow but super friendly. My wife ordered the Chicked Fried Steak with brown gravy, fried corn, field peas, and corn muffin. I ordered the Hamburger Steak with brown gravy and onions, turnip greens, tomatoes and okra, and a corn muffin. Also, the fresh squeezed lemonade was stupendous. The food was old country style. Located on Broad St this is a great place for lunch. We went rather late, around 2:30 and it wasn't busy but there were several customers having lunch. Our waitress Lakedra took our orders promptly. My chef salad was amazing with ham & turkey and 1000 Island dressing. His club sandwich was very filling with ham, turkey, bacon & cheese. The fries were hot & fresh. The food here is great if you are looking for some good ol' home styled, southern cooking. The place is easy to find and they are open most days for lunch. It was my sis' first time here, and she couldn't stop talking about the sweet tea, even called her hubs who was working nearby to come join us and taste her tea. Country fried steak is a win, as well as the fried chicken and macaroni and cheese. Candied yams are mega sweet, so be forewarned if you're not into that. The server was very friendly and did her best, considering they are obviously and painfully short staffed. The hostess (older lady who is always there) had major attitude. She was not cordial at all, and complained about us needing a high chair, having a diaper bag that took up too much space, and sitting too close to the wall..??? We've been here before and she's never been overly friendly, but today took the cake. Good friends of my husband, and new friends of my mine, are the owners. Glenn is from my home town of Jefferson County, right down the street, 30 miles South of Augusta; his talented wife, Cassandra, is from here, in Augusta. Glenn and Derek worked at Budweiser back in the day; they've known each other for years. He and Cassandra are a sweet couple; very nice. It's a family owned business; they cater also. This is up there with top 5 of the "worst". My sweetie picked this up (Knows I adore good southern soul food). Sadly in my humble opinion this wasn't it. We couldn't figure out why I was so sick, when I inquired about the food and where he purchased it, we knew!!! This place is the epitome of southern comfort food. We went for lunch because, contrary what Yelp has for their business hours, they aren't open for what I would consider dinner hours (after 4pm). It's very quaint inside and they weren't crowded but there is a steady flow of customers who dine in and order to go. We got our food in a very timely manner which was pleasent being that the menu has a disclaimer about wait times which acknowledges that in order provide quality food certain items are made to order (I can respect that).
