What a cool spot right along the railroad tracks. I think it is a converted train station and the cafe concept works. It is a great place for lunch with both outdoor and indoor seating. They have a coffee shop on the one side if you want to grab and go which is what we did. I ordered the chocolate chip cookie and it was nicely done. They also have a barista who can make you any type of coffee/tea that you need. The place was packed for a weekday lunch so it has to be doing something right. They have assorted pastries and other treats like cake pops as well if you need a quick snack. Overall, this is a fun top quality place. The staff is very friendly so next time I will come back for a sit down meal. read more

I grew up around here and can say it's worth a try, but probably not the best place to repeatedly go for a "fancier" cup of coffee or light lunch in Tenafly. Tenafly Coffee Shop and Brasserie in the area are probably better, safer choices. (If you're looking for cheaper food, try Celebrity Bagel or Good Taste Chinese) The location and restaurant setup is very unique - it's inside the old train station, which is conveniently located right downtown near some shops and across the movie theater. The coffee is good! But Tenafly Coffee, which is no more than a few mins walk away, has better selection. The other reviews you are seeing about the staff has been an ongoing issue with this establishment for a long time. Yesterday was my first time at Cafe Angelique and I have to say I enjoyed my lunch. The Turkey and Swiss was extremely fresh, the salad was light but filling and the mint lemonade slushie was so delicious. The only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is because after being seated we waited a while for our server to come to take our drink order. However it was a little busy and it seemed a little under staff. Our server though was really nice and polite. Overall it was a pleasant experience and I will be returning some more this summer. read more

Cafe Angelique is perfect for breakfast, brunch, and lunch -- no matter what I'm in the mood for, there's always something on the menu that I know I'll enjoy. It's a great place to take any friend or family member, even if they're picky, because there's a good variety of food, drinks, and pastries to choose from. I try to get a table outside whenever it's possible, but the interior is really nice as well. I've never had trouble finding parking and the restaurant is in a convenient location, close to a bus stop. Some of my favorites are the shakshuka and the asian chicken salad. The portions are generous, the prices are super reasonable, the bread is awesome, and I always leave feeling satisfied. Most recently, I ordered shakshuka and my friend ordered Belgian waffles, and we were both really happy with our meals. One of my friends has a food restrictions to almond so when asked if they can substitute the almond croissant in the French toast for regular bread they said no. Sometimes it is adequate other times, it is positively non-existent. Outdoor seating in the summer and Spring is fabulous with the Park, Train Station and downtown area in fresh air as your scenery. It's beyond comprehension how this is not at least a 4-star choice on Yelp (people ... go figure). So, one small but actually fairly urgent bit of feedback. I have been here a couple or three times, each time wanting to have a better experience; I still nurture the hope that maybe there's a time when the counterperson will have the time, or feel more comfortable with herself or himself in the role as counterperson, to just say "good day! REALLY overpriced. I mean come on, almost $8 for a puny little slice of cake? Did I say Puny!! Not even 1 inch thick. $8 for a small tiramisu? I think they get away with it because of trendiness and being in the more upscale area. Adorable town and downtown but this place kinda turned me off. As a French immigrant with an Italian mother from Napoli, I know my pastries and not only are they unnecessarily overpriced but they're really meh. So let's start with the fact that they don't make the food at their premises. They get it delivered. Therefore, if you want a popular dish, there's a good chance that they ran out of it. This has happened multiple times to us when ordering the salmon stick (salmon on a small bagel). The lattes are great and the service is usually wonderful! The waiters get all the stars!!! I used to be a regular customer going there 3x a week for the past 1 year ordering their granola bowl... the staff has always been responsive... I always needed a small mustard cup of extra granola... and the staff had no problem with that, and I always tipped well... only recently, they charged me an extra $2 for that! Second time having a late lunch (2p) on a Saturday here and it was yummy and the service was great! Not sure what I ordered that last time, but there were a lot of new items on the menu today. As we entered through their bakery, the display of colorful macaroons caught my eye! I must come back to try those out soon! We entered the dining room and were invited to sit where we wanted. They were fairly busy (only about 2-3 empty tables open) with, what looked like a full staff running orders. We chose a table by the window overlooking some shops across the street. Within a couple minutes the server came to take our drink order. One large black coffee and one medium soy moccachino. She came back with our drinks and took our order. I ordered the Smoked Salmon Bagel Stick (may they should rename it...?) and the Turkey and Cheese Croissant, both were delicious! The bagel stick was filled with cream cheese, basil leaves and smoked salmon. It was a small portion, so if you're going to try it out, I suggest ordering something else to go with it to make it a meal. As for the turkey croissant, it totally hit the spot. Thinly sliced turkey and melted swiss cheese on a warm, flaky croissant -- perfect! Fiancee had their Greek salad. The entree salads are big, so have a good appetite if you're going to order one. The salad was filled to the brim of the decorative, slanted bowl and was topped with a lot of feta cheese. All items came out at the same time and we had a good time enjoying the food and the ambiance. Overall, service was quick and food came out in good time. Total cost for lunch - $35 with tip included. I've been here multiple times whenever I'm visiting my in-laws in Bergenfield and I really can't bring myself to enjoy Cafe Angelique... The cafe is located in the middle of Tenafly where the train tracks are. It offers outside seating during the warm summer nights and large seating inside the cafe. The cafe looks sort of like an old train station made to replicate cafes in Europe. It's inviting in the sense that it allows people to come enjoy a cup of coffee in the middle of the town or a romantic dessert date. I do enjoy the interior as it offers the large dining section and the 'to go' section is in another part of the cafe. While the staff (specifically Vanessa and Manuel) were amazing at providing above and beyond service, I can't bring myself to enjoy the desserts and beverages that the cafe offers. Previously having dessert here that I did NOT enjoy, I decided to only order a hot chocolate with Almond milk. Granted I didn't get whipped cream or regular milk with my hot chocolate, it tasted like Swiss chocolate mix. Very bland with only the color of hot chocolate, it was definitely not worth the $4 for a small mug. The tiramisu my husband had was surprisingly not as bad as I thought it was going to be... My only reason for coming here was because my in-laws love this place, but it just doesn't do it for me. It doesn't seem worth it me to pay the $4 for a hot chocolate when Starbucks offers the same options and their's is much more flavorful. Again, I have tried Cafe Angelique multiple times and each time it never gets any better. I would not go out of my way to come here for a cup of coffee/tea or dessert. OUTDOOR DINING COVID REVIEW Came here for outdoor dining this past weekend. And wow their protocol for keeping you safe is very concerning. Few things I noticed... just because an employee is wearing gloves doesn't mean you're safe and doesn't mean there is no cross contamination!!! These employees are touching people's plates and cups and everything and then going to other tables and touching their stuff too! Unless they are changing their gloves between every table (which I didn't see myself) then again... UNSAFE!!! Covid germs can easily spread!!! They leave salt and pepper shakers and sugar packets out on the table. Is that for real? The whole POINT of this new protocol of outdoor dining during covid is to PREVENT all possible chances of cross contamination. Why are salt and pepper shakers sitting out on the table for ppl to eat with their hands and touch. That's unacceptable. And when we got there, our table had crumbs everywhere. Again, totally unacceptable. If you're doing outdoor dining during covid you MUST be aware of where ppl have sat down and PROPERLY DISINFECT the table when the guests leave that table. Very simple. Disappointed in the attention to detail here at Cafe Angelique. Suggestion; have employees who ONLY touch dirty things as they clear tables and have employees who ONLY serve clean plates utensils etc. AND properly disinfect the table! Keep all salt and pepper off the table. If a customer wants salt and pepper then shake it for them on their food until they say stop. If they need sugar packets then bring a few out at a time at a customers request. Again, THE GOAL HERE is to prevent all possible chances of cross contamination to the best of your ability. We've been seating and waiting for over 90 minutes for our drinks and food, had our order taken 3 times just to find out that it did not even make it to the kitchen. So after waisting an hour and a had without being served we left and went to eat somewhere else. My favorite thing about Cafe Angelique is the ambiance: the European red painted walls with long Renaissance-like portraits and cupid momentos dressing the room. I love how this place is built in an old train station with plenty of sunlight flooding the room. The food is decent to great depending on what you get. I usually get the Israeli bagel, which is really good. Their pastries/baked goods are good in general. My mother is in love with all their espresso drinks. It's a tad pricey, but then again, it's the full on experience of sitting in the room that makes it worth it. Today's servers were fairly nice and accommodating but I know that in the past few years I've frequented this place, they have not always been the friendliest. I guess their trying to reconstruct their image. I'd say fair job well done. read more

Ordered a mocha, iced coffee and a cheesecake and it was $19 altogether. It's OK. The cheesecake was Kosher and it tasted good. But not amazing. Again, everything was just OK. Bitter chocolate mousse is just regular and not particular dark chocolate tasting. The other chocolate mousse was just overly sweet. And my mint tea was two mint sprigs in NJ water which tasted basically like dirty grass water. I mean it's cool if you had put a ton of fresh mint in there but really the small amount of kind plus gross water taste just made it unpleasant. I had expected just a regular tea bag of mint tea. When you leave New York for the northern suburbs you do so because you're looking for places to discover that are off the beaten path, who can offer specialties you might not find in established neighborhoods that you've been going to over and over since you moved here as I did in the mid-90s. Last Friday a friend and I took a short trip to the Tenafly Nature Center, a park outside the affluent town offering trails and stations where you can sit and observe and be one with nature. I'm into forest therapy, and to be surrounded with so much fall color, a thing that made the area preternaturally alive with deep, fiery oranges and sun-kissed yellows peppered with deep wine and amethyst, was a wonderful experience for the both of us. We emerged elated and renewed. Coming back, we decided to stop for coffee. Tenafly doesn't provide a Starbucks that I know of so we took a gamble to Cafe Angelique, a former train station located in the now closed Bow-Tie Tenafly Cinemas. Café Angelique is an odd, schizophrenic coffee nook. The entrance has a warm, inviting atmosphere that feels closer to an ice cream shop, with a trio of high tables where you can sit and enjoy a pastry alongside a coffee of your choice in complete privacy. The staff--a tall guy in a hip navy blue T shirt with white stars, and some Hispanic-looking workers, seemed to be having a great time talking while working. I smiled at that rapport. However, the moment we stepped into the "seating place" which had a sign placed on its entrance describing it for " consumers only" (not inviting, a shame), I felt something amiss. A sharp faced lady with black hair, probably pushing 70, deeply absorbed into her phone, immediately looked up with a look of pre disdain at me as I held a conversation with my friend. I stared back and she continued to give me the angry look as if I'd interrupted a moment of electronic zen and had the manners of an ex-con. But, because I don't pay attention to the neurotic or the privileged, I soldiered on. We sat deep into the cafe and continued to talk (albeit in a hushed tone although there were some college kids having a rather animated conversation among themselves). Expecting this to be a passing cloud we decided to order. We were wrong. A tall girl with a dour expression came to our table and in a tone of sheer boredom and trust-fund baby entitlement she asked for our orders. I took a while, which didn't endear me to her. In the end, I ordered after my friend, and in no moment did she extend the courtesy to announce if there were specials or maybe suggestions. After all, for a place that seems to have been there for a long time, wouldn't that have been the right thing to do? I was at a loss. It didn't help that my friend informed me that not once had she ever witnessed service being friendly from the girls working there.l and that all of them seemed to believe and act as if they were above their jobs. Adding to that the already hostile, heavy atmosphere that hovered in the seated section, we drank our beverages rather quickly and left. However I will say that the entrance place which I described earlier was much better. Perhaps we should have stayed there? Who knows. My advice: find a Starbucks nearby or an alternate choice. Or avoid Tenafly altogether. It seems to be an entitled, unfriendly, over-privileged town. Unless you're "white / affluent." read more

The food here is very good, the place is also very nice with outdoor seating and is perfect for lunch, dinner or if you just want a pastry and a coffee. The one issue I have with this place is the service is not great here I have come and it has been decent but on more than one occasion it has been subpar. However, when I come here I make sure not to be in a rush or on the brink of starvation and even though it may take some time I usually enjoy my meal. Terrible. Very slow and less than mediocre food. I will not be returning. I ordered a turkey and cheese sandwich for my daughter and the picture shows what i received. Cold bread in a basket, which was thrown on the table after having to remind the waitress about the bread (again, for a sandwich I had ordered). What first landed on our table was the rolled up turkey on a plate and shredded cheese.... I don't understand how they can serve this.
