    Tomato Confit and Avocado Toast
    Megan W.

Was looking for a light breakfast/lunch spot to sit outside - this was perfect! The menu is on the small side, but plenty of great options! Went with the tomato confit baguette & an avocado toast. The tomato confit was delicious, but I would've liked some more toppings on the avocado toast (lemon, olive oil or a flaky salt). Also had the house blend iced tea which was light and refreshing!

A comfortable dining area. A great place to dine and catch up with a friend. We took two toddlers and felt it was child-friendly. Everything l ordered tasted great. I enjoyed the Sweet and Savory breakfast sandwich with tots. Their pancakes are sweet as well. The London Fog and Pumpkin Spice Latte were lovely to have on a cold rainy day.

The cutest aesthetic. I may be biased because I am a geography major, but the maps on the wall are adorable, amazing, aesthetic, and I assume have meaning! They matched the theme/decor of the entire cafe. Great place to chat or do homework. We took our drinks and pastry to go to walk downtown. The cider was good. I got it cold because it was rather warm outside so I didn't want a hot drink. The orange cinnamon roll/croissant was DELICIOUS! It had the perfect consistency and the right amount of flakiness to it. The taste of orange was very well present yet not overpowering. It was so good. I highly recommend!

I visited Cafe Birdie with my husband in the first couple of months of its opening, as I was curious to try the cafe that replaced the Queen's Cuisine. I was quite pleased. There were multiple vegetarian items for me to choose from, and my tomatoes confit with a fried egg on a baguette was delicious and perfectly seasoned. My husband got an Americano, which he said tasted great; however, it was served in a drinking bowl filled to the top and without a handle, leaving no cool place to hold the thing to drink it. The servers were helpful, and while the inside atmosphere was merely okay, it was delightful sitting on the deck next to all the planets with herbs. Thanks to the good food and vegetarian options, I knew I would go again. 4.5/5 (rated on Yelp 4/5) A few months later, we visited again, this time as a group of 3. We each had items from the brunch menu, including the pancakes (silver-dollar pancake sized cakes), the biscuits and gravy with a side salad, the smoked salmon biscuit, orange juice, coffee, and a Mayan hot chocolate. Everything was great--the Mayan hot chocolate was fabulous! Another customer was fishing to us about the coconut macaroons, and we saw at least two parties come in to pick up cinnamon rolls or macaroons for takeout. They hung maps to decorate the walls, and vases of fresh flowers graced the tables. I think this will be our go-to brunch/lunch place for visitors. Upgrading my help trading to 5/5!

The place has lavender and herbs growing on the beautiful deck seating area. So relaxing. We came because they offer gluten free, we will return for the wild mushroom confit and friendly atmosphere. The owner, Jenny, was very kind. Support small and local

Cafe Birdie is new and absolutely delish! As you step into this new spot, you will be taken back by how cute it is and the amount of options! Everything sounded fresh and flavorful. The coffee options are great. I got the chicken salad sandwich and it was super flavorful. If you hate dill you won't like it but if you do, you'll be in heaven! You order at a counter and then they bring it to your table of choice. Service was polite and helped me with the menu.

My new go-to spot just because I love the ambiance. The shop is at the corner of the street and also so sunny and cozy inside. Great place to chill or get some work done. Friendly staff. Food and drinks are decent home-made quality.

A delightful breakfast and lunch cafe. Bright and cheerful inside, and a very friendly staff. Coffee is from Sump (St. Louis) and is excellent. They put out a nice selection of baked goods including many gluten free items. Daily specials vary but they usually have a nice house-made granola, scratch biscuits and gravy, avocado toast, frittatas (usually vegetarian), etc. They open at 8 so not for early birds wanting their coffee on the way to work. And, they are open Wednesday through Sunday. Parking beside the cafe is limited (3 spots) but they are very close to the parking lot to the west of the library.

1st time stopping in for breakfast to go. Cute place and friendly staff. I had the tomato confit toast- was bummed to find out it had goat cheese on it--which for some reason tastes like manure to me. ‍I'm not sure if there was feta as described on the menu, and it was subbed by mistake, or if that's part of herbed cheese on the toast. All the other ingredients were cooked and seasoned perfectly, so was still able to get it down. Will def try them again-I'm intrigued by the Birdie Palmer I saw on the menu.

My recent visit was to take part of Javapalooza being sponsored by Rivers and Routes Tourism Bureau. When it's warm outside, I enjoy my coffee iced. My go to is, Vanilla Honey Latte with whole milk. If you're having a latte, why not go whole hog and enjoy that whole milk. The rich fullness of whole milk, adds to the flavor. Looking at their pastry case, it was hard for me to choose. However, once my eyes saw the Pizza Scone, I wanted a savory treat over a sweet. The scone was full of flavor, but a little on the dry side. After a couple bites, the dryness did not bother me, because the flavor was so good. Making it a great place to stop by when paying your property taxes, or when you're doing your jury duty. I'm glad to see that they are a proud server of Plaid Coffee. So many other shops use the same local roaster or one from St. Louis, so it is nice to see that they give us a Scottish touch roasted in small batches. I enjoyed an iced coffee. When I drink hot coffee, I drink it black. However, when it is iced, I need a little packet of Splenda and a splash of milk. To accompany my iced coffee, I enjoyed a Mini Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Bread. I was torn between a blueberry danish, blueberry muffin and the mini bread. When I asked the cashier for guidance, he recommended the pumpkin bread because it was a seasonal special. He said, the other two were always available and could enjoy them on another visit. To be honest, the mini Pumpkin Bread with Chocolate Chips did not impress me. I found it to be dry and the pumpkin flavor was faint, but it was chuck full of chocolate chips. Next time I'm at the courthouse paying the next installment of property taxes, I'll stop by again and try one of the blueberry treats. I think I may even grab one of the loaves of bread they had on sale.

However, the people of Edwardsville still love Teaspoons, because it was packed. Things that disappointed me on my last visit that made me decide to take a star away: They are now serving Kaldi's Coffee a STL roaster. I think it is a shame that they are not supporting one of the many local roasters on the Illinois side of the river. Was disappointed that their iced coffee lids were not sip lids. I prefer them, because I am not a fan of straws. I know some people need or prefer straws, but I like the option of not using one. Save the Turtles. Biggest disappointment was my food. I ordered the Breakfast Platter. My scrambled eggs were fluffy and hot and made fresh. They were very good. The English Muffin was also good. It was obvious it was freshly toasted, because the whipped butter spread and melted easily. The disappointments were the bacon and potatoes. Both were cold and tough. It was obvious that both sides were prepared ahead of time. The bacon did have good flavor, but it was chewy and rubbery. My potatoes were on the burnt side of preparation and cold and chewy like the bacon. Damn, when I've ordered this before it was good, not this time. I will at least say, the service and customer service is still good and consistent with what I've had before. Which actually saved them from getting two stars.

So, tonight I decided to stop in for coffee and a cinnamon roll. They have my favorite drink on menu so I figured I would try their flat white. I ordered a regular flat white with extra shot of espresso. The staff that served me was very kind and offered to warm my cinnamon roll. She also noted that the espresso machine was going through a cleaning cycle and it would take longer and asked if that was alright. I stated that was no problem and waited. I'd love to say that everything about my experience here was amazing or even great, but unfortunately it fell flat for me and I feel like I wasted some of my money here. The cinnamon roll, it was pretty darn good. I'm picky with my cinnamon rolls and I would definitely come back here for this one. The cinnamon roll was a great size, very good on price point, and most important it was goood! The dough was soft and fluffy with good cinnamon roll gooeyiness throughout, especially in the center. The cream cheese filling was pretty good, not overly sweet. It did have a bit much icing on it for my personal taste but I don't see this being a problem for a lot of people and I'm pretty use to just scraping some off the top to my liking. So, yes, if you are looking for a good cinnamon roll, come to the Vault for theirs. Definitely worth the trip. Unfortunately, the coffee was a miss. I was unable to drink it because it had way too much milk in it. Even with the extra shot of espresso I could only taste milk. I waited to drink it until I got home and brewed a stronger cup of coffee to add to it and still too much milk. So, I saved it for my kiddo who likes coffee flavored milk. Next time for me I'll be ordering plain coffee or americano with my cinnamon roll. That was unfortunately $6.xx coffee I couldn't enjoy. And I was looking forward to having a great cup of coffee with my cinnamon roll! While I was there I thought I would get my husband a concrete. He loves a good mint concrete with some chocolate to it. I knew he didn't like chocolate chips in his mint though so I asked for mint and krunch. I legit thought this would be a crunch bar broken up in with it. When she handed me the concrete I noticed there were a bunch of sprinkles in it so I asked where the sprinkles came from. The staff member told me it was in the krunch. I stated I did not realize that was what krunch was and thought it was the chocolate crunch bar. She stated that it was like a peanut brittle with sprinkles. This was mostly on me...I should have made sure krunch was what I was assuming/thinking krunch was. Despite that, the staff member was very kind and offered to remake the concrete for me. She was in the middle of another order though and told me she would remake a concrete when she was finished. I waited for her to finish thinking she'd come back and ask how I'd like to remake it. I was thinking I'd order him a mint and hard shell or maybe mint and Oreo. However, she just handed me another concrete. I realized she just made a mint chocolate chip. I knew my husband wasn't going to like it, but I felt bad asking her to remake it again so I decided to just take it and head home. I was right, he couldn't eat it. The chocolate chips were just too much and they get hard when in icecream which isn't enjoyable to bite into. So unfortunately, that was thrown out as well. Another $6.xx that wasn't enjoyed. Definitely room for improvement and I hope this feedback helps for future visitors. I do appreciate the staff there. Everyone was very friendly. They were busy and still offered to remake my concrete. It just was unfortunate that I wasn't asked how I would like the concrete remade. This is a very nice place to hang out indoors or outdoor. They have a very spacious inside area with lots of seating from comfy chairs, to bar stools, to hi top tables, to big tables for families/large groups. They also have a walk up window from outside to order ice cream from.
