The Long Version: District Deli opened up around March 2025 in the space that was Bismallah Pies (was Charlie's Groceteria before that). My husband and I dropped by to pick up a sandwich to share. The sandwiches are all named after nearby streets, which really gives it that neighbourhood feel. All meat sandwiches are $13.99 and vegetarian sandwiches are $12.49. You can also build your own for $13.99 where you can choose 2 meats, one cheese, and whatever vegetables you like. We went with the build your own option. We got roast beef and prosciutto cotto, fresh mozzarella and lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, pickled onions, pickled eggplants, and roasted red peppers, with a bit of honey mustard. The sandwich was really good. The bread was fresh, as were the other ingredients. It was a bit pricey in my opinion, but this is in comparison to other similar sandwich shops with $8-10 sandwiches (like 50 Two Sandwiches or Shorty's Sandwiches), but they are in industrial parts of town, so I get it, rent in Hintonburg is higher. Prepare to be amazed............... We had heard about his place for months and how awesome it was so we finally decided to try it out. When we got there at mid-day on a Saturday there was a line up out the door. My wife suggested we go for a walk to let the line thin out a but. We got back and the line had thinned out so we went in. They have a set number of sandwiches and you can also make your own, but we decided to try their set sandwiches. I got the Parkdale and the Holland, my wife got the Bayswater, and we picked up a Scott for my daughter. When we got home, we were nothing short of blown away. The quality of the sandwich was amazing - the bread was light and fluffy, a ton of meat, fresh veggies, great sauces, just incredible quality. More importantly, fantastic value for money. Even more importantly, the staff were wonderful - they chatted with us but kept the line moving - super professional and friendly. The quality of the sandwiches here rivals Old Tyme - no word of a lie. The bread they use is very very close to what we had in Lafayette and the quality of the fillings is outstanding. The Bacun strips were rice paper rolls with some attempted flavours but none came through. And two Vegan Bennies ($16) - a super grainy slice of bread topped with the same tofu, green onions, Bacun and some red pepper strips (NOT Coulis as described in the menu). If some person was having a tofu dish for the first time I think they would describe tofu as no flavour at all. We vegans know that you can do amazing things with Tofu. The home fries in the above dishes was the best - now that we could give 5 out 5. All of us had to go and get Sriracha and Ketchup from the counter to rescue the dishes. Coffee was too weak as well. When you go in and order on the counter and you get food delivered to your table. Should the restaurant still offer to tip on the machine BEFORE even we were served? The order did take a long time, the table not clean when we sat, no condiments on the table and coffee refills slow. An extra star for giving tons of vegan options

Straight up - get the assorted banh mi and let them do it their way. At $3.25, you can't beat feeling full at that price. The bread was just perfect. I'm definitely going to keep going back here. They do have off hours that aren't reflected on the opening hours on the board - I went on a Thursday and they were closed so I'm not actually sure of their hours but I AM sure of their sandwich!

Very polite and accommodating. Prices remain the same. $7-8 a banh mi and still buy 5 get 1 free. Che are mostly $5 each. They are still a cash only business (there's an ATM onsite, although I imagine the fees are high, lol). The banh mi is better though. They put more meat and the meats are less fatty (which is a win for me, but I know some people like fatty meats). Also when I buy many banh mi, I like to get the veggies separately so the sandwiches don't get soggy. I would often split an order of 6 with my parents and the previous owner refused to split the veggies into 2 bags, she would only give us a single bag with 6 sandwiches-worth of veggies, the new owners happily gave us 2 bags with 3 sandwiches-worth of veggies in each bag. Their baguette is still not a true Vietnamese baguette though. It's the same as previously, which is more like a hoagie bun. They also seem to have a larger selection of Che (Vietnamese desserts) now. It's still takeout only. I have tried everything on his menu (or not menu because there have been occasions when I walk in and say, "What do you have?" and he makes something incredible. When you think 'local hole in the wall', and 'Where do the chefs in this town eat?' Sanguiccio is that place. The Long Version: My husband and I finally made it out to Paninaro. We shared a sandwich and it was fantastic. I'm a big eater and I would not have been able to finish an entire one, so I'm glad we shared one. We got the Tacchino Tricolore ($15) which had sliced deli turkey, fior Di latte, tomatoes, arugula and pistachio cream. The bread was fresh, soft and fluffy. The pistachio cream was what made the sandwich. It really added that je ne sais quoi to it. I went in and ordered and got it to go while my husband walked around outside (he's intense about maximizing his steps and heart points on his fitness tracker, lol). They gave me a number to put on the table I was waiting at and offered me a glass of ice water while I waited. What great service! Staff were friendly. The decor is cool. They have artwork on the walls. They also have an arcade machine. And I saw a variation of the the Connect Four board game on one of the tables.
