i've been to cafe con leche many times and i can keep this review pretty simple. there are two things that keep me coming back to cafe con leche: 1) they have delicious french fries. french fries + mexican food. 2) they are a block from my house. and there are two things make me skip going to cafe con leche: 1) the rest of their food doesn't blow my skirt up. 2) el cid is two blocks from my house. one last thing. last time i got takeout i asked for bbq sauce (for the aforementioned fries) and received maple syrup. check your condiments, friends. read more

Walked in this morning at 9:05AM, was probably greeted by the same HOST as a previewer reviewer mentioned - he is completely rude. I was the first one in the restaurant, and he attempted to site me by the door. It's chilly, so I ask for a seat further from the door and he decides to sit me by the waiter stand.... UGHHHH!!! He is completely rude, never greeted me with a proper GOOD MORNING/BUENOS DIAS... Then to make things "better", the waiter reached over me to continue to get menus... The food was cold. It was just all around rude... The HOST treated a lot of the Latino customers walking in vey short, which is sad because he is totally a young Latino... But I'm going to blame his behavior on just immaturity. I did leave a nice note for the owner, but I will follow up to make sure his attitude is different next time I go to eat breakfast. read more

Con leche y azucar, they should say. But that Cuban-style latte-with-sugar is frickin good (and damn sure cheaper than hifalutin coffeeshop stuff). Cuban and Mexican food, good tortas, tasty burritos. Breakfast looks good, I still need to try it. I discovered molletes here: halved french bread with frijoles, pico de gallo, and cheese, baked. I was really excited to try this place out but was utterly disappointed. Came in on a slow Wednesday night with some friends to celebrate my birthday and received horrible service. The waitress was not at all engaging or attentive. My friend brought in a cake for me and the waitress seemed bothered by that and informed us that there is a $2 charge for bringing outside desserts, which is understandable, but they didn't even bring us a knife to cut the cake! All in all the food was ok but that was enough to make up for the lack of service. Will not be returning. read more

I had never had Latin food so was a little confused by a few of the menu items. The waiter was kind enough to explain what some of these ingredients were. I had the Jabarito which is a cuban style sandwich between two fried plantains. This was amazing. And whatever sauces are at the table - try them all! The location is also very quaint. read more

Found this place thanks to Blackboard Eats, which also included a 30% off coupon. My husband & I went with another couple, and we tried a lot of dishes. We started with the guac & chips, black bean tamales, and croquettes - all were very good. For entrees, I tried the special camarones, my friend got the steak jibarito, and our guys got two different steak options. Every entree was on point: the steaks were cooked perfectly, the mole was sweet, savory, and a little spicy, the jibartio hit the spot, and the yucca fries were garlic-y and amazing. I also loved the oaxaquita margarita - grapefruit & chile were the main flavors. I will definitely be back! read more

If I could give 0 stars I definitely would. So a group of friends and my one yr old went to eat here, they sat us right by the open doors and outside patio. There was a strong breeze and I had asked if they could close the door, mind you I have my 1 yr old daughter with me. It took them 15 min to get an answer, then he comes back and says the manager said he wants them open! That was an absolute dick move! So we moved, food and all. The food was bland, the customer service sucked! So sad that they lost a regular. Never again will I step foot in there. read more

I've been here a couple of times for breakfast. The first time with a big group, another with just 2 of us. With the big group everyone was very happy with their food and drinks. Chilaquiles were one of the favorites of the group. As a vegetarian, I also loved that they have an amazing vegetarian jibarito, with a black bean burger. Amazing food, great service, nice environment. Free parking behind the restaurant is also a huge plus. And the back patio is nice in the summer. I will definitely be back here. If I could write a movie called "How to lose a guy in 10 minutes"... I order from here on a Sunday (1/24/16) via Eat24 and the restaurant messed up the order based on the description of their sandwich within the menu. When I called the restaurant to let them know that it was wrong and wanted to have another delivered, the MANAGER ON DUTY stated that "he wanted me to pay for the sandwich and contact Eat24 to have them reimburse me, and by the way the sandwich does have egg on it" and so I told him that it could well indeed have egg on it, but it doesn't say that within the description - although every other ingredient on the sandwich was listed...His response "well that's not our problem". So from there I knew he had a bad Saturday night or wore the wrong undies to work that was obviously stuck far up his a$$. From there I decided to contact Eat24 to let them know the issue because they are pretty good at getting this sorted out and while. When we (eat24 rep and myself) contacted Café con Leche back, the Manager did of the most Egregious thing you can do within the food industry...HE ASKED ME TO SEND THE OTHER SANDWICH BACK WITH THE DELIVERY GUY!! Like really?!?!?...who does/says that?!? and I ask that because there's only 2 legit reasons he asked me to do that, either he was going to serve that sandwich to someone else or he thought I was someone who was trying to get an extra sandwich (but why would I do that after I've already spent a nice amount of money with that order and go thru the hassle for a free sandwich via delivery). Nonetheless, I said "ok fine", knowing that I would never order or eat there again....but guess what, he never sent the other sandwich or picked the sandwich I had up, so I called eat24 back and of course they refunded my order (cause they get things right), and the Manager at Café con Leche didn't even want to get on the phone again to hear what we had to say. ALLL OF THAT TO SAY... There are literally SO MANY OTHER GREAT PLACES TO EAT IN CHICAGO and with that type of competitiveness in the city you would think places want to get it right by simply providing excellent customer service, good eats, and being ok with being wrong. I WILL NEVER GIVE MY BUSINESS TO THEM AGAIN! Oh, 90 miles (to cuba) is only a few blocks away from me and tastes better. read more

I pass by this place almost daily and finally ventured in this past weekend. As soon as my bf, houseguest, and I hit the door I was floored by the delicious smells! The menu was abundant and varied with traditional Cuban foods, staple breakfast items and sandwhiches. I had the Bistek Encebollado with white rice and plantains. FANTASTIC! I enjoyed every bit and finished with a triple soy latte. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, and the music gave it that little extra boost of Latin America. All I can say is bad meat. The service was good and the food tasted great but...... I cannot recommend this place to anyone because some of us became pretty sick that night from the beef dishes we ate. I called the restaurant and they took my name and number and never called back. I really hate having to come here. My boyfriend likes this places sometimes, and we always get the steak and eggs. I've had bad fatty meat here. I like their orange mayo spice condiment however, and the fact that they do have a really good, sweet, extra fatty cafe con leche. In the summer you can find this tranny sitting at the window, shes nice and she'll let you know if your outfit sucks. read more

I just wanted to express my disappointment with D'Noche. On April 14th I made reservations with Jennifer, the events manager, for a large group. I had a surprise proposal/engagement party planned. The night would start with dinner and move over to a local bar for the band I hired. Imagine the sinking feeling in my stomach when I arrived at 5:45 on a Saturday with 8 of the 23 people in my party only to hear that I had no reservation. D'noche single handedly ruined what should have been the beginning of a stress free and memorable evening. I had to push the assistant manager to give us a table that was reserved for 8 people who were already 10 minutes late. I then had to continually remind her to push tables together with ours as they became available. I had members of my party who had to sit at the bar and wait to be seated with us. Two of the members in my party didn't even get to sit with us. They had to be seated at another table after waiting 20 minutes or longer at the bar. When it came time to pay the bill I was the one who had to ask for some type of compensation. The assistant manager seemed more worried about getting the projector to work for the hawks game then she did about asking the general manager about some sort of discount for my trouble. The general manager who NEVER personally came over and apologized for the error. I was finally told they would comp a few appetizers and give us free shots. No one at the table felt that was comparable to the stress and frustration caused for me. When we finally received the check and collected everyone's money we were told there was a mistake. The check was taken from us and the total amount due was raised! We had to go back and collect more money! Needless to say we didn't make it in time for the band I hired to start playing at 8:00 pm. My friend and I were walking around Logan Square and decided to give this place a try. When we walked in were immediately greeted, seated, and given water. We were extremely thirsty and I definitely noticed how attentive they were in constantly keeping our glasses full and checking on us throughout our entire meal. My friend ordered the Chili Quiles and I ordered the breakfast burrito. We shared both of our dishes with the other and both were delicious! The food came out very quickly and was nice and hot. My only complaint about the visit that prevented me from giving 5 stars was that I wanted to substitute the house potatoes that were supposed to come with my meal for fruit but was told that I was not allowed. I understand that fruit is more expensive but having a substitute option even if it's a dollar or 2 more would've been nice. My breakfast burritos was delicious but the house potatoes were undercooked and not very tasty (needed a lot of ketchup). I was told that if I wanted fruit I'd have to order a side in addition to my meal and today I wasn't up for spending an extra $5. read more

I had some higher hopes for this Café con Leche after being spoiled by the Bucktown location. This location is more of an "express" location than Bucktown. It's also more breakfast oriented. I ordered the Bistek sandwich. For under $6, the sandwich plus fries is a great deal. The sandwich also was very good, too. The meat, in particular, was excellent. The seasoning was excellent. I'll be back but I'll miss the outdoor seating and expanded menu of the Bucktown location. Same great taste in Logan Square. read more

Probably my favorite standard brunch in logan square! They have the BEST pancakes ever. The restaurant is always busy for brunch, but I've never had to wait. Friendly staff. My only complaint is the coffee mugs..they are too big so they spill and also take up too much room on the small tables - I solve this problem by ordering espresso. Oh! The food is excellent but ordering over the phone is almost as difficult as speaking with someone from AOL or United Airlines about your account......you can repeat each word letter by letter, and it will still be repeated back to you incorrectly..............and don't expect to eat lunch at lunchtime if you order your food for delivery. May want to eat there or pick it up, that is unless you prefer to pace your dinner for around 8:00 P.M. because you will be too full for dinner cause the deliveries are similar to the post office........... ;) read more

The food was great and service was exactly what you expect. We came sometime after 10pm so def. After the Saturday rush. We had the beef jibarito. This was my second time eating a jibarito so I can't really speak on whether it was authentic or not but it was delicious my only issue was the beef had a lot of fat - again idk if that's the way jibaritos are or not. We also had the enchiladas and we wanted chorizo con papas but they said they didn't serve fries after 10pm? We found that kind of odd so we ordered the chicken...what we didn't know is that the chicken had onion and the hubby doesn't like cooked onion....it had a TON of onion so that was a nuisance. Sangria was delicious. We will be back but maybe trying different dishes. read more

captain obvi says, the best thing on the menu is their cafe con leche. the iced version is delicious (you can take it to go) or just their reg coffee in a cup with some cream. yummy. the brunch is just ok. i had a veggie omelet con chorizo. i never get omelets but i did this time, and it came out the way i thought it would. brown. brown eggs means rubbery, burnt eggs. not a fan. potatoes were just ok, nothing to write home about. my friend got the breakfast croissant sammy, which she said was ok. the staff is also ok. they do their job, not supes friendly, a bit disorganized and i think a 13 year old is the host. like, eh. asi asi. if you feel an extreme amount of underwhelming emotion here, you're reading it right. read more

My friend brought me here for my birthday brunch and I'm so glad she suggested it. The staff was super nice and friendly. The cafe con leche was a quintessential cup of coffee with steamed milk like I haven't tasted since my favorite cafe in London (Montparnasse Cafe). It was a big bowl of warm goodness, perfect for a fall or winter day. For my meal, I got the Chorizo and avocado omelette. It's really hard for me to stay away from chorizo. You can probably tell based on my past reviews. I love that greasy spiced sausage so much. And the creamy smooth goodness of the avocado made the omelette completely tasty. My friend ordered chilaquiles and I snuck a bite. They were also great. It's a cute little spot, very lively and vibrant. The sandwiches look outstanding so I'll be back for lunch sometime. I've heard that everything on the menu is good, so there's so much more to try! read more

I understand that it was Cinco De Mayo and they were busy but it is inexcusable to have an hour wait for tacos. If you're unprepared or your kitchen staff can't handle the demand tell the clients before hand, or at least provide us with chips and salsa. the only food we did have was chips and guacamole, bland... I live a block and a half away and I am always eager to find new neighborhood places so I went in with a friend on a Sunday afternoon, the restaurant was about half filled. We were promptly seated in the back patio with a few other diners, given menus and then.... left to rot. We sat there getting no service for about 12-15 minutes before we just left. As we were walking out we saw 3 waitresses huddled together sending text messages and laughing, while two "managers" (You know those guys in sports coats in every dumb-ass restaurant with bad service that you can never really figure out what exactly they do... the guys that Gordon Ramsey always recommends to be fired on "Kitchen Nightmares") realized what had happened but didn't try to apologize or stop us from leaving, probably figuring they make enough money so who cares about these two. read more

Oh how I love this place!! Not only is the food amazing but the cafe con leche is sooo yummy! Me and my husband go here a lot! The service is great and last time we were there the owner was sitting at a table next to us and heard us talking about how much we loved the place and started talking to us about how he keeps a great customer service base an I couldn't agree more. Great ambience. I picked his place as a date night prior to going to Emporium for a friends birthday. I'm vegetarian and my husband is a meat lover. This place had just the best compromise for both of us. Overall all the food including the guacamole and enchiladas was lacking salt. I requested jalapeños and lime to boost the guacamole. The salsas were good own spicy was lighter. I got the vegetarian enchiladas and really liked the bean dip which was almost like a thin light bean sauce. It wasn't too cheesy and had good veggie flavor. My husband got the chicken fajitas and really liked using the salsa as a base. Overall the vegetables looked dry though that he got on his platter. The meat looked good and he said it was cooked well. Wanted to try the desserts but we weren't hungry! Drinks were tasty, I got a passion fruit margarita with salt and it was not too sweet which I enjoyed. read more
