A great stop for authentic. Colombian food. We started with the empanadas. They were delicious! And then moved to the entrees. An order of the Taco Arepas and the Coconut shrimp. Both were fantastic. We were sad to see Tacos Loteria go, but Arepa George Cantina (AGC) has been a welcome addition to the neighborhood. AGC is part of our regular "what are we going to eat for dinner" rotation, being a reasonable talk from our house. AGC cemented it's place on that list after our return from Colombia. The taco arepas are one of our go to dishes. Inventive and consistently great. While traveling Colombia, we enjoyed their appreciation for juices and tastes sancocho and ajiaco. I didn't see them offering Hagao, but that would be a welcome addition. The food is always fantastic and the Mango Lemonade is so good. Most times we've dined, it's been on the empty size despite the colorful decor, which pays tribute to Colombians love of music. We were happy to see a good sized crowd on our last visit, we want them to be here for a long time. read more

Well, I was trying to go to Best Intentions just down the street, but a bustling crowd meant it wasn't to be, though Arepa George Cantina was the place for the night. I was lucky enough to get the tail end of the happy hour. Orquidea - a delightful and unique cocktail thanks to the use of Lulo. It was a little sweet, a little tart, and had some zest. Great level of booziness too, as it went right to my head! Taco Arepas - Holy cheese! These delightful little creations were positively oozing with cheesy goodness! They "shell" being arepa style gave it a little more substance, and it contributed a little more breadiness and starch to the dish than a typical tortilla would. I'm not complaining, it was a creative twist! The meat, ordered as Ropa Vieja was tender, flavorful, and in ample amounts. Now, while there was a little green as a garnish, I felt these could have used something crisp to offer a contrasting texture, some onion, maybe? Putting aside the lime and hot sauces, these felt a little one-dimensional. I find the Empanadas had very similar notes, except the cheese. These were a solid combination of meat and potatoes inside of a dough shell. While not the lightest or flakiest thing around, it got the job done. Yet, the filling, too, came across as one-dimensional. The textures of the potatoes and meat seemed to amalgamate into one, and neither was particularly able to shine. Out of left field came the Passionfruit Cheesecake! This was one of the better slices of cheesecake I'd had! The crust was light and felt homemade, the "cake" was airier than I'd seen in a cheesecake. With the sauce, it too felt homemade, not oversweet, and a little tart, too! Finally, in terms of the service: I found it was kind, friendly, and reasonably fast and attentive. The only note is I wish the dirty plates were that I'd polished off and pushed forward were removed. So, we have a place with great drinks and solid food. While creative and interesting in concept, it feels one-dimensional in execution. read more

First time here, and was craving for some fish. Discover this place and this is actually the second location. Came very late and it was not busy. What a find for gluten free dining. The soup we tried was hearty, full of protein and perfect for a snowy cold Chicago night. The cheese empanadas were delicious. The arepas were generously stuffed. I will look forward to wine being added to the menu and for the heat to be turned on. We couldn't remove our coats it was so cold. Stumbled in here one Saturday afternoon. I had the shrimp arepa tacos. They were pretty tasty with a side of yuca frita. Our server was great and very attentive. The ambience is gives Colombia. It's very chill and welcoming. The bartender made an amazing drink for me. I don't recall the name. Overall if you're into Latin flavors, I'd give this place a try. read more

Very cute restaurant many seats. Service was exemplary! Everyone welcoming and very attentive. The food was awesome! We had the appetizer platter. It was filling and delicious. It came with 3 tasty sauces. We also had Bandeja Paisa. Again very tasty food cooked perfectly. We tried many cocktails. Actual bartenders making your delicious cocktails...Love it ! We had Orquidea, Que Mez Pues, and also their secret cocktail. All of them were great. The music was at the right level and makes you want to dance. Also nice clean bathrooms. Delicioso! Los 3 diferentes tipos de platos que pedimos estaban súper súper ricos. El ajiaco, que nunca había podido encontrar uno que supiera tan parecido como el que se come en Colombia, estaba deli, llenísimo de pollo. El bistec a la criolla era enorme y lleno de sabor y venía con una ensalada muy rica, el bowl paisa tambien estaba demasiado rico mi hijo no podía dejar de comerlo. El ambiente es muy colombiano y con música que te hace sentir en casa. El servicio excelente. Súper atentos todos y atienden con la mejor actitud dispuestos a ayudarte con todo lo que necesites.
