Lots of choices - over 20 different gelato flavors - it was hard to make up our minds! I eventually settled on the Toasted Almond gelato and my wife the Chocolate Hazelnut. This place knows their gelato - it was fantastic. My toasted almond reminded me of my Chicago childhood and favorite toasted almond bars from the Good Humor truck. Having just come back from my beloved Italy, to find "authentic" Gelato in St. Augustine was a dream come true. You know its authentic as the color represented exactly what the ingredients were. Pistachio (pronounced Pis-tac-kio) was a creamy tan which it should be. Then a sample before ordering sent me back to Italy as the flavor was perfection. We had checked into our nearby bed and breakfast and needed a light meal to tide us over until supper. Upon our walk we stumbled across this cute little restaurant. We were especially looking for indoor seating as it was a warm Friday and I really don't like eating outside. We were greeted and found a clean corner booth in comfortable air conditioning. We ordered the Mona Lisa pressed panini sandwich which features roasted turkey, lightly melted brie, green apple and raspberry preserves. We split the panini and also split the Hidalgo Salad. The chef brought the food and indicated the salad dressings are all homemade. For beverages we had a nice iced tea and a water. I recommend this nice little independent restaurant if you need a light lunch or gelato while visiting our nations Oldest City! read more

Presidents' Day so a lot of people are down here with the day off, walking around, but we literally sat at a table for 15 minutes when finally we made eye contact to the kid who said he would get back to us. Well, we sat there and sat there. Nobody came to us. We finally got up and left. Didn't even so much as take our order. It was a kid and the old man and obviously they were overwhelmed, but at least you can do is get back to people just sitting there. The filling of the sandwich was pretty good, plenty of meat, more cheese than I usually see, but the bread was disappointing: white, surface crisped just like you expect of a panini, but no trace of butter. On St George St in downtown St Augustine is the best quaint cafe that serves a variety of coffee, smoothies, milkshakes, gelato, crepes, sandwiches and salads. Today we stopped in for gelato and it was sooo delicious! I recommend getting the medium size and they will accommodate 2 flavors! I ordered the wild berry and grapefruit! My son had key lime pie and mango. My daughter got hazelnut and toasted marshmallow! They had a huge selection of gelato! Everything is beautifully displayed! All blends were A+! I will try the pistachio next time. I observed they didn't add food dyes which is nice. They also had a cannoli creme crepe that looks amazing! There's a nice chill vibe here. I told my friend I was going to be in St. Augustine for the day and asked her for dessert recommendations. She raved about this place so my boyfriend and I went. It is a mixture between a restaurant and gelateria, and the atmosphere is kind of like a pub! Anyway the gelato WOWWWWWWWW it was so good!! The lady behind the counter was so nice and let us have as many samples as we wanted! I eventually settled on hazelnut because it's typically my favorite and it was everything I wanted it to be!! We came here for the gelato and weren't disappointed. The variety of flavors reminded us of the many gelatarias we've visited throughout Italy. I had the ricotta and Nutella combo in a small cup and that's more than enough. Because the gelato was so good we returned for lunch the next day. We shared the New Yorker panini with pesto sauce and it was delicious. I was a bit afraid of the pesto since I've had many bad experiences. But their pesto had the right combo of basil and pine nuts.
