This was the worst breakfast I have EVER HAD. I'm including all the continental breakfast I've ever had at every hotel I've ever stayed at. I mean, it was bad. We had the buffet and two iced teas for 26 and some change. We were served iced tea in a plastic cup and directed to the buffet that was up on a very dimly lit stage. Upon reaching my table I put down my tea and climbed the stairs to the buffet. After tasting the food I understand why it was all so dimly lit. There was no love in this food. The biscuits were cold and very very hard. The scrambled eggs had a bit of a gray tint. They did not taste good either. The French toast was stale and very dry. The potatoes were over seasoned. If you scraped all the rosemary and Paprika off of them, they were ok. The bacon was good. I did not try the omelette bar. According to my husband the grits were OK and the sausage links were tough. I felt like I should go out in the parking lot and warn people away. Really really bad. Never even had a server come to the table for more tea. Not even sure if we had a server. read more

Traveling from California we found the southern fare we encountered sometimes alarming. We needed to eat something green stat! Thank goodness we found cafe eleven! We went here for the first time today for the weekend breakfast buffet. Boy were we impressed! Omelette and pancake station, so you could customize what you wanted for each. And for the buffet, everything we liked, including very crispy bacon, sausage links, delicious fruit, as well as muffins and bagels. This place is fantastic! Every member of our family loves coming here. The atmosphere is casual and relaxing. The food is great and the staff is always friendly. We usually come in for lunch and smoothies. There is a lot of variety on the menu and they always are willing accommodate special requests and dietary restrictions (when possible). I have enjoyed everything that I have tried, but I always end up ordering either the salmon salad or veggie quesadilla and I have definitely made the 20 minute drive just because of a craving. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of food you are getting. The place is a cafe, so you shouldn't expect table service like you might get at a traditional, sit-down restaurant, but that certainly doesn't detract from the experience or quality of the service from our perspective. Stopped in for breakfast. Posted pics on line looked better than they tasted. Coffee from urn was only Lukewarm. They gave our order to another family who took it at first, so they had to make my sons pancakes fresh...so how did they come out dry? French toast was extremely dry and not with pecans, as pictured on their website. Feta cheese and egg sandwich was good but as the eggs made the croissant soggy it would have been better separate. This restaurant was absolutely amazing. Came for the breakfast buffet and it did not disappoint. The food choices were amazing and they even had an omelette and pancake station with countless toppings. They $2 mimosas was really good. Excellent movie x of champagne and orange juice. Came for coffee. Stayed for breakfast. The frappe and espresso both delicious! The piña colada smoothie also delightful! The acai bowl was refreshing and tasty. The huevos rancheros very yummy! I'm from Philadelphia and my family and I were in St. Augustine for a vacation and I wish that I could come here on a regular basis. I order a salad with balsamic vinegar with sprouts (I forget the name of it) and it was incredible. Our server at another restaurant recommended Cafe 11 and we couldn't have been more pleased! I got the macaroni and cheese and it was so great! The happy hour was half off all beers and wines from 3-7! We sat outside for a few hours and the staff checked on us the entire time. read more

We had breakfast there two mornings in a row. We had good meals both times. We enjoyed the omlets the first morning. The next morning I had a huevos rancheros I still think about how yummy it was.My daughter tried bubble teas both days. Good enough she didn't want to share.. And they have a Dora! We have Dora! Café 11 has a great happy hour special, their shrimp quesadillas are addictive, and they make a tasty latte. The posters on the wall indicate some really great bands have played there, so I'm sorry we weren't in town to see a good show. When they are slow, the service is great. When it is busy, it takes a long time to even place an order, so be patient. read more

We have been visiting St. Augustine for years (My husband worked in the area for many years) and are familiar with the fact that you almost can't go wrong no matter where you choose to eat. St. Augustine has some really good restaurants. While there this past weekend with a group of friends one of the couples suggested Cafe Eleven for breakfast, stating they have an incredible Praline French Toast on their brunch buffet. I checked this site and Tripadvisor and saw mostly good reviews. So we went and now I MUST write this review for those people who truly know what good food is and would like to know what they can realistically expect from this establishment. Please note that my review is of the Sunday morning "buffet" only. Perhaps their daily menu is as some of the better reviewers claim. The buffet is a makeshift set-up, which would work fine if the food were fresh and hot and good. I observed the omelet and pancake station to begin with and decided to pass. The omelet in progress was too browned for my liking. Instead I picked up a nice clean white Corelle-ware plate and proceeded through the buffet line, which was made up of chafing dishes. I typically take a very small sampling of each item and then decide what is worth going back for. There were plain scrambled eggs and a Southewestern sort which both looked overcooked. Scrambled eggs should be scrambled IN THE BOWL and then the cook must let them set slightly before beginning to fold them, moving and folding...but NO MORE SCRAMBLING on the heat. Otherwise you get crumbly, dry chopped up eggs. Which was the method used here. Next were the home-fried potatoes which seemed to be seasoned well but steamed, not fried. There were no crisp edges and they were slightly undercooked. I took a breakfast sausage which also tasted like it had been steamed but was greasy. The bacon was dark and overcooked. The grits were just grits. They would do if they had been hot. I passed over the fixings for what I think were supposed to be Quesadillas. I could have missed out on something good on the items I skipped but they didn't look worth bothering with. But there was that Praline French toast I had heard a lot about. Hmmm....they were big chunks of what looked like maybe French bread, with both ends dipped in a buttery colored oil to yellow them a bit, and then cooked with some brown sugar. There wasn't a pecan to be had. So much for Praline. And this was a new batch that filled the chafing dish so it hadn't been picked over. The outer edges of the 2 pieces I took to my table were dry (and yellow) but sweet and then you just had tough, day old French bread in the middle with no flavoring, no moisture, and certainly no praline. Before taking my small samples to my table (which we had to clean off) I also selected a muffin from a covered donut display stand. I believe they offered about 3 different types of muffins which they cut in half, which I appreciate since, as I said, I like to sample several things then go back for what is best.) I chose what looked like a carrot cake type muffin because it looked more moist than the others. It was dry and crumbly and tasted of oil rather than spices. Once I sat down to taste everything I discovered that nothing was hot. The potatoes and sausage were room temperature. The eggs were luke warm. Nothing on my plate was worth going back for more of. In fact I didn't even eat the small portions I took. There is no good food on this make-shift, chafing dish buffet. I returned the omelet chef and asked for one with green peppers and cheese.The peppers were not pre-cooked and were chopped rather coarsely so they clearly will not cook or soften during the cooking time of an omelet. And they are just scrambled right into the egg which is then cooked like a pancake....first overbrowning it on one side, then flipping it to brown on the other. The cook uses his spatula to "press' the omelet and make sure it is all really well done before flip-folding it onto your plate. Not a good omelet. Last food comment is about the pancakes. I asked for a blueberry pancake and it did have nice big blueberries in it, but the batter has a very artificial vanilla flavor and is overly sweet. The edges were dry but the center, where the berries were was gooey. I'm so sorry to be negative about everything but diners should know this food is not good and the managers and food preparers at Cafe Eleven need some cooking lessons. And some heat under the chafing dishes. I am not certain what the cost of the brunch was since my husband paid and I forgot to ask him but someone commented that it was $13 PLUS you have to pay separately for your coffee or juice. read more

We've ate at Cafe Eleven probably a dozen times over the last 2 years and have been generally pleased, but they lost themselves a customer last weekend with a horrible experience. We always utilize their outdoor seating because we bring our well-behaved dogs with us - every time we seem to meet great people there who also bring their dogs with them. However, on Saturday, a mean old woman claiming to be the owner approached us and didn't say "sorry, we don't allow dogs here any longer", she opened the conversation by threatening to call the police to ticket us because bringing dogs to a restaurant, even with outdoor seating, was illegal, a $250 fine. Further, she told us that this had always been the case and when I commented that I had eaten here many times before with the dogs, she told me this was not true. We left and took our dogs to a restaurant a block down the road and happily ate there - a quick phone call reveals that St.Augustine adopted Florida's "Doggy Dining" Ordinance in 2006 that permits this at outdoor seating areas of willing establishments. If you don't want people to bring dogs to your restaurant, fine, I have no problem with that, its not for everyone. But don't accuse me of being a liar and don't make rude, ridiculous threats in lieu of simply asking us to go elsewhere with our dogs! read more

Breakfast was horrible. The selection was very poor and lacked variety for a buffet.The darkly lit buffet seemed dirty and under stocked while the staff was extremely rude and arrogant. The service was awkwardly nonexistent. Some in our group sat at a dirty table for almost an hour, after ordering breakfast and paying at the counter, before they were told breakfast was over. They were eventually refunded and they left in disgust. It was expensive for the below-average quality food and such a garage like atmosphere. Over all, it was a thoroughly regretable experience. Do yourself a favor and go across the street to the Castillo Real, Mango Mango, or the Stir It Up. There are many other options within just a few blocks. read more
