My wife and I ordered both sandwiches and shared 1/2 of each. The Evergreen club is voted #1 vegetarian sandwich in Florida and I understand why, it was stellar! But, the Mahi Reuben was out of this world good. Service was great, it was a bit loud with a huge table of a few little kids, and it did seem a bit dark inside but seating was available outside too. It had been a year since I was back in Nokomis and I was looking forward to returning to my favorite restaurant, Cafe Evergreen! It did not disappoint! I was surprised that staff remembered me! Great! I was happy to see they once again had the Taste of Sarasota menu! Works for me! I chose the CBD pineapple Kombucha, the vegan quinoa and the chicken salad. The chicken salad is served in a peanut sauce and is oh, so tasty. The portion is absolutely huge! I sit at the bar as a solo and am always made to feel welcome. That being said this is not a big place so seating I also limited. The building is cute and homie! Has a good size coffee/drink bar with many different options. I have loved everything I have tried from here. The Evergreen Club is delicious and I see why it won best vegetarian sandwich by Restaurant Hospitality. This is sustainable, "healthy food" for everyone from people who care about those things a lot to those who don't care at all. Three of us had gnocchi - two with steak tips and I with shrimp. It was truly amazing, one of the best dishes I've had anywhere. Creamy, lightly chewy, and flavorful. A nice plus is a variety of mini-desserts - just enough to be satisfying. I had the chocolate peanut butter, one of my favorite flavor combinations, and it was wonderful. Looking up gluten free places by our location and we stumbled upon this as an option. As a celiac, this place was heaven. My non celiac husband enjoyed as well. There were so many vegetarian and vegan options, which I follow during the week for health purposes. We enjoyed a sampler of falafel, quinoa cakes, and cauliflower. I had a matcha and he had a lemonade. Then came the yummy entrees, vegan pulled pork with a vinegar slaw, and a classic Reuben for my husband. My family & I went to celebrate my son's birthday for lunch and we were disappointed at the experience. The first thing we ordered was simple - water. They don't even have lemons! Two of us ordered falafel and although the sauce was good, the falafel patties were gummy in the middle. The apparent reason was the kitchen doesn't have a fryer, only a griddle. Worst falafel ever. The cole slaw was drenched in vinegar. The salad and burgers were fair but our server Melissa was did offer great service including replacing the slaw for sweet potato fries. The bill with tip was $115 and although she did give my son a birthday dessert, the overall experience was not worthy of a return trip. read more

I put in an online order for 7 people. The website said to wait until they had manually accepted the order, and after a few minutes it was confirmed and we were given a wait time of 45 mins. Upon arrival, no one acknowledged my presence for several minutes until I happened to see the tiny sign saying "pick up orders here". I was standing there for a while when a woman finally asked what I needed. She then informed me the order was cancelled. I asked by whom and she said "by me. We were really busy at the time." Wow! All this time, I knew they had a vegetarian options, but didn't know the breadth of their menu! A true local gem. Three of us for lunch at 12:30 on a chilly day. We sat inside (there is also outside seating) in a cute little restaurant room. Tables were far enough apart to not hear other conversations. Spicy Thai soup of the day - Yum! But caution: believe the waitress about how HOT it really is!! Chipotle black bean burger - WOW! I mean wow. This is literally THE best BBB I've ever had! OMG. Organic matcha tea - yum! Mild tasting so no need to worry if it'll be too bitter Salmon sandwich - surprisingly this was the first meal I've eaten here that wasn't 5 stars, and only because the salmon was fishy. Thai crispy noodle salad - YES! But then again the salmon dampened the flavor. Swiss burger - the combination of all the fixings was just awesome! Sweet potato fries were good but nothing special - just a bit lacking with firmness. Took a few pictures not food related - check them out. Greeting up front was warm and inviting! I will say it later .....service was top rate and gregarious and friendly from the very start! We wanted and waited at no time on this visit. Our last two restaurants were a DISASTER. So this was soo welcome and pleasing. We got some yuppy/millennial/Gen-x cappuccino and latte because they have a coffee bar/cafe up front so what the heck!! These were very good although my cappuccino with almond milk was VERY VERY sugary sweet. My wife got a latte and she said it was very good. 8/10 I got the classic Eggs Benedict w/ham on a gluten free muffin (glutino or equivalent I believe) and breakfast potatoes. I took TWO pictures of this entrée, why??? Well be cause THESE were perfect poached eggs - picture perfect! The muffin was grilled with a bit of butter and very nicely toasted/crisped on one side. Not soggy. The ham was nothing special and was almost a little pork roll disc. I would have preferred two hunks of the bacon from the BLT down below, or a smoked Canadian real ham on here for something REALLY special!!! The hollandaise sauce was also a very tasty and special sauce. 9/10 The breakfast potatoes were freshly cooked and hot and they were also nicely done. 8/10 My wife got the mushroom and spinach omelet. The spinach was sautéed expertly with not too much oil or wetness, the mushrooms were also fresh and well cooked. You could eat both plain!!! but in the omelet they were a perfect combo. Not sure what happened with the omelet as it looked awesome with no pan or grille scars from excess heat or fast cooking. A perfect looking meal.......but the egg/omelet was dry and sort of crumbly? Maybe no butter in the mix or milk or something. sorta dry. 7/10 My daughter's the wild card and the toughest to please. She went for the Egg BLT (bacon, spinach, tomato) on a thick sliced bread with a side of fruit. Pictures here, this think looked epic and awesome. And I think it could be!! The egg over easy was unfortunately grilled to death on the underside and had the buttery veil of death on the entire bottom and out to the edges - it even cause the egg to cup upwards in the picture. The bottom of the egg was a grease lace brown. My daughter popped the yolk (it was perfectly over easy and flipped at exactly the right time!!) but she threw away the rest of the egg - not good over fried. The thick grain bread, the tomatoes, and the spinach were fresh and excellent and the thick two sliced of bacon were decadent and perfect!! (I would have preferred two hunks of this on my eggs benedict, BTW mentioned above) As mentioned but worth repeating GREAT GREAT service, some awesome dishes that need just a few attentions/efforts, the place is 'cool' and interesting. Great access and parking. Clean clean clean, dishes and silverware all spotless. Check them out for sure!! read more

This is the best organic restaurant on the West Coast of Florida that I have found. I was so impressed with the food. It was absolutely delicious. Every single thing I ordered and I ordered a lot because I went in very hungry. I had the salmon Reuben. it was perfection, the sweet potato fries are out of this world, the wrap that was vegan was delicious, and their water is delicious and it's all I really drink besides fruit juices and vegetable juices so I am a water connoisseur and their water was amazing too. My server was a delight. She was so personable kind and had a great smile. It couldn't have been a better experience. I will definitely go back again and again whenever I am in this area Thank you Café Evergreen for being just what I needed. Everybody was so friendly there and really cared about you I think I'll bring my friend there in a few days. There was so much to choose from. Went here on a Saturday for the first time and will definitely be coming again! It was decently busy but the workers (specifically our server Melissa) handled it perfectly and it wasn't too loud or overwhelming. Melissa was absolutely excellent. So sweet (don't think I saw her not smiling once) and knew everything about the menu and was very helpful with our dietary restrictions. Now the food Are you kidding me??? Absolutely delicious. The plating was beautiful and it was so flavorful. One of our guests is vegan and usually has a lot of trouble finding places with decent food or more than a couple dishes she can eat (which usually require heavy modifications) but Cafe Evergreen had her covered. They had so many vegan options and all of them sounded good. She got the vegan meatloaf with cauliflower mash and after trying it myself it might be my new go to and I'm not even vegan. I got the chicken pesto bowl and loved it as well. It has a great ambience and lots of very cute and relaxing outside seating as well The only stressful part was finding parking because of how loved this place seems to be. I used to eat it fried until I had Evergreen's version and now I can't even eat anyone else's. And I've tried to replicate it at home, but nope. You just have to try it. I was visiting my friend for the day, and she recommended this lunch spot. We got seated quickly. Ambiance is that of a normal lunch spot with nothing too special about it. Our waitress provided incredible service with a smile on her face throughout which I greatly appreciated. The food tasted great! I ordered a Tree Hugger smoothie and the turkey melt with sweet potato fries. However, about an hour after I ate, I had diarrhea which was terrible since I had a 3 hour drive home. I came to the conclusion that it was the smoothie, because I did end up eating the other half of the sandwich when I got home and did not have any issues. The service is exellent and staff is friendly. The menu is so promising. We have eaten there twice with great anticipation but were so disappointed both times. It's like they have absolutely no seasoning in the kitchen. Lamb burgers. salads, soups and even burgers had absolutely no flavor and were so dry. We will not go back and cannot recommend, so disappointing as it is one of the few "non bar" food restaurants. Cafe Evergreen is one of my favorite restaurants to eat gluten free. I can't have everything on their menu, but I still get quite a collection of options (plus vegan and vegetarian friendly), and they really care about how and where their ingredients are sourced, so it's pretty clean eating, overall, and it's house made, including all the sauces, soups, etc.... ...and speaking of sauces, the pesto ranch dressing is SO GOOD! I could put that stuff on just about anything. They have it in a wrap, on a mediterranean salad, but I could dip fries in that stuff. So addicting. I have had the lamb burger, chicken pest bowl, mediterranean salad (it's huge, so consider sharing), superfood slaw (made with vinegar), kelp noodle stir fry, seafood chowder (so creamy and good), etc. Lots of things....I keep going back and we don't even live in the area. TIP: If you're gluten free and looking for a real treat, I HIGHLY recommend the GF Chocolate cake. It is not too sweet, but it's probably the best cake I've ever had, gluten free or not. I requested it for my birthday last year, lol. They also have a whole menu dedicated to beverages. Their probiotic drinks (kombucha) are pretty dang good!
