Ok. So we tried it again. I really want to like this place too! Got a Latte with Oatmilk and my partner got a cappuccino. It seemed like it took much longer than it should to get us our coffees. We were the only people waiting and there's 4 people behind the counter That being said we got our coffees. I specifically said I'd like a hot 'very hot' latte and cappuccino. Somewhat tongue in cheek but I said it nonetheless . My partner got the cappuccino and she said it was very hot. I got the Latte and it was between warm and warmer. The coffees were ok. Not very strong. Like I said I really want to like this place but I can't give it a great rating at least for coffee. Maybe the food and smoothies are good. read more

3 stars because I'm a little unsure about the place as the fruit wasn't incredibly delish or ripe. However, after a day at the beach and being in need of a wholesome treat this place gets the job done. Their daily beets juice +ginger is one of my favorite juices! This place is very quaint. It is decorated with a calm vibe (plants, music and a mural on the wall. The food was delicious. We had the blueberry lemon cake. It was very moist and full of flavor. The chicken salad sandwich was very tasty. The bread was lightly toasted. It made us want to make some when we got home. I would recommend giving this place a try. read more

So far so good with two visits here! I have only had lattes and they were both very good...I will update my review once I've tried some food. They have a wonderful selection of gluten free options so I am eager to try those. The five stars are mostly for the friendly faces that work there. You don't always get that everywhere, so I really appreciate how kind they are and they even brought our beverages to our table for us. Will definitely be returning as a local. read more

Mission is a pure gem in the heart of Venice Florida. The cafe itself is cozy and bright, very welcoming. Service is always top-notch-- right down to the little things like reheating coffee before we leave. The menu is wonderful-- especially as a person who eats a vegan diet;. Love this place! I usually come here at this once a week for lunch and have either the chicken salad which is the best or the turkey sandwich. I had a bacon egg and cheese breakfast sandwich this morning which was delicious! Great way to start my day. Then decided to come back for lunch and have the cacao protein bowl. My second visit confirmed my suspicions from my first visit...I do not believe that the organic coffee is really organic. I have very strong reactions to non-organic coffee (and food in general) and am super picky about everything I consume because of it. I had a reaction on my first visit a year ago, and had a worse reaction from my second visit a couple weeks ago. The owner, who pestered us to leave a review while we were trying to read the menu, claimed he couldn't possibly use organic food for everything for some reason. The sign says it's an organic shop but I don't believe anything in there is organic. I know for a fact he does not use organic flour because I asked him. The menu itself looked like the food would be good tasting, so if that's what you care about then you'd probably like this place. The overall vibe I got is that they're pretending to be something they're not, and as someone who's chemically sensitive I do not appreciate that. read more

Came to get a smoothie from Mission as we walked around Venice to shop. It is a street over from the main shopping block. They had lots of gluten free and vegan bakery items that looked fresh and delicious. I ordered the PBJ & Chia smoothie, it was thick and healthy! I would recommend coming here to get a smoothie on a hot day, they have a lot of indoor seating to escape the heat. read more

"I've been going to Mission Café in Venice for years, and I've always enjoyed it, but I was really disappointed with my most recent visit. I ordered the BLAT sandwich for $16, and it came with only one piece of bacon on the entire sandwich. For the price, that felt unreasonable and not up to the quality I've come to expect from them. Plates come with either slaw or pasta salad. Fries are extra and the chef does a little something different, he mixes regular French fries with sweet potato fries so you may get a few surprises if you are not used to that combination. Cod sandwich was not breaded which is a bit different for me. No tartar sauce with the sandwich but rather a remoulade sauce a bit more tart and tangy. Side was slaw which was tangy. Both the entrees were decent, but way more expensive for lunch than we would expect for a grilled cheese and a cod sandwich with a side of fries over $50.00. Worth a visit, but be aware you are going to pay for it.

You can tell they use high quality ingredients since the iced cafe mocha had chocolate flakes in them, but somehow managed to accent the beverage perfectly without making it too sweet. The chocolate croissant tasted absolutely delicious and had a wonderful chocolate filling inside unlike most traditional recipes...we both agreed it was great and tasty. The owner mentioned she gets her croissants from Europe and does the filling and final baking on premises to serve it hot. I'm not aware of any bakeries that go to all that trouble, but it makes for a high quality product. All in all, an excellent coffee and pastry experience at By The Bay Bistro...it's a place I hope to return to and would recommend to others visiting the Venice, Florida area.

They are openly hostile to everyone in our community. The coffee is good. It doesn't make my top five for Sarasota county, but again there are many great coffee shops in our county. Since we started coming here they have taken down their "30 minute time limit" sign- which makes sense since this is a public space. What they haven't removed is their hostility. I hope the city of Venice does not renew their lease and allows some kind and good people to represent us to those passing through our amazing town. Also I didn't like the egg salad, but it probably is not for me. I don't like brown mustard in egg salad.
