One of my favorite memories from visiting Perq for many years: I once grabbed a few coffees and pastries to bring to a friend. I accident left a muffin behind. The owner took the time to track me down and send a message over social media letting me know they think I left it behind and they'd hold it for me or I could have a credit towards a future visit. Unreal. If you have visited Perq before you know there was likely a line yet the owners took note of this and took the time to go above and beyond. I placed an order online for food ahead of time. I was also going to place an order for coffee online, but their menu and online ordering system is confusing. When I pulled up, I realized parking was going to be an issue. Your only option is street parking in a very busy part of town. They have plenty of spots in the back, but they are reserved for employees only. All but one of the employee spots were available. After circling the block a few times, I was able to park a block away on the street. When I walked in, I mentioned I was picking up food but I also wanted to order a coffee. The man at the counter rudely told me that I had to pick up my food at the counter in the back. When I asked if they had nonfat milk, I was again met with an attitude and he said "we only have local milk and three dairy alternatives." It was very clear that I wasn't being respected because I wasn't a local. Imagine my surprise when a small/medium sized latte, with no syrup, was $9.10. Absolute highway robbery for an average latte. For food, I ordered an avocado toast with shaved egg. I had a much better experience interacting with the woman at the food window. She was incredibly kind, made an effort to talk to me and my food was ready 20 minutes early. It was good and fresh, but I now know that I'm not a fan of the texture of shaved eggs. I'm in Sarasota a few times a year and I will absolutely not be going back.

Oh... and they freeze their drip coffee into ice cubes and then use them for your iced coffee.. wow. On top of all that, the service was great, warm and friendly without being intrusive. In addition to caffeinated beverages and bakery items, they have an impressive menu of sandwiches and lunch items. We kept things simple by ordering an iced cafe mocha, a dark roast coffee, and a chocolate croissant. You can tell they use high quality ingredients since the iced cafe mocha had chocolate flakes in them, but somehow managed to accent the beverage perfectly without making it too sweet. The chocolate croissant tasted absolutely delicious and had a wonderful chocolate filling inside unlike most traditional recipes...we both agreed it was great and tasty. The owner mentioned she gets her croissants from Europe and does the filling and final baking on premises to serve it hot. I'm not aware of any bakeries that go to all that trouble, but it makes for a high quality product. All in all, an excellent coffee and pastry experience at By The Bay Bistro...it's a place I hope to return to and would recommend to others visiting the Venice, Florida area.

I had the shaken espresso and my wife had an iced pumpkin spice latte. Both were incredible and tasted completely real, not like the artificial syrups you get at most places. What really took the cake was the fresh Boardwalk Turkey crepe. Rebecca, the owner, was a delight and took the time to walk us through the menu and everything they offer.
