Oh, the yumminess! We were able to check in and get our name on the waiting list from the road - thanks, Yelp! There was plenty of parking when we went. Hubby and I ordered the cheese plate to start - absolutely divine! The cheese is locally made and each had a rich, distinct taste. We both loved it. I got the Reuben and hubby got the Monterey Melt. Both were amazingly good. Mine came with some of the best homemade potato salad I've ever had - there's a good amount of bacon in it! We love this place. We live in Fort Worth and we make the trek over here when we just want to get away. There is always a line so be sure to call 20mins ahead so you can get in line. The food is so fresh. Our favorites are the quesadilla burger and south of the border burger. Be sure to leave room for dessert. Their cakes/pies are amazing. They have a blueberry cheesecake that is sugar and gluten free but taste like it has sugar The restaurant is located on a craft community. It was featured on the HGTV show with Chip and Joanna Gaines. You can build your own rocking chair, make pottery, quilt, makes some blacksmith stuff etc. It's a great place to take your kids to learn stuff while you wait for brunch. They also have a cheese cave and a green house on the property for you to see how the cheese is made When you check in with yelp they give you a free scope of their home made ice cream. Shout out to our server Tabitha. No matter how backed up and crazy the service is, she always has a smile on her face. She made our experience here even better. However of all the food for 4 adults, only one diner was happy with their meal and the burger special and coffee-rubbed burger were practically inedible. The food here is from farm to table and you really can taste the difference. The potatoes that came with my food was amazing and the ranch was hands down the best ranch I have ever tasted in my life (sorry Texas Roadhouse)! The wait staff was very attentive and very friendly. We can't speak more highly about our experience visiting Cafe Homestead, the surrounding community and the Homestead Market. The restaurant is situated off of a quiet country road, surrounded by peaceful countryside. Around the restaurant is multiple shops featuring handcrafted goods such as black smithing, quilt making, wooden furniture, general store and market, all run by the self-sustained community members. Everywhere we went, the staff were so friendly and welcoming, and had such great customer service. We made a reservation and we glad we did, because when we arrived, we saw many people waiting a long time for a table. Once we got inside the log-cabin style restaurant and were served our lunch, we understood even more why this place is rated 5 stars. We ordered the cowboy coffee burger with fries and pastrami melt and chips which were delicious, especially with their homemade ketchup (which was so good we bought a bottle to take home. My husband wanted to try the chicken fried steak but they were sold out of that popular item by the time we visited around 1:30 on a weekday. To end our amazing meal, we had the peach cobbler which was served hot and fresh and was mind blowingly good. The fresh peach sweet tea was delicious as well, and tasted of real fresh peaches instead of the typical artificial flavor that many have. We had lunch at the Homestead Cafe on a Friday a little after noon. We were seated promptly, but by the time we finished eating, there was a line. So it's probably best to come early rather than late. My wife had the quesadilla, and I had the rueben sandwich; I substituted the jalapeno cheese grits for the standard potato salad, and I'm glad I did. The grits were wonderful--lots of flavor, which a bit of a kick to them, but not too much. The reuben was served on their homemade bread, and tasted great. Service was prompt and attentive. The restaurant has a great feel to it, and has original paintings for sale on the walls. If we are in the area again, we would definitely eat here again. I thought we would go to the Cafe for a special lunch (great reviews are misleading). We arrived at the cafe and as were pulling in we were called and informed the restaurant had run out of propane and we could have a salad. We had another reservation that we had cancelled to eat at this out of the way place. I have not heard of such a thing in 2023. And finally, these are some of the friendliest, nicest people you could ever meet. I really enjoy coming here and will be back soon! This might be the best restaurant in Waco! I was in Texas visiting for the first time and found this gem. They didn't have the poblano bisque soup available but I still thought I wanted soup, the server generously gave me two samples of the soup they did have. They were both tasty, the Pazole was a bit too limey for me. You can taste the freshness of everything! The salad was thee best salad I've ever had!! I would go back to Waco when visiting Texas again just so I can have that salad!! I got a free scoop of ice cream for checking in with yelp. We booked reservations for this place because everyone said you had to. I wanted to do lunch for my aunts birthday (we were coming in from out of town) but we were told it was a 930 breakfast or I could come back in June. The cafe is on the homestead property but is very hard to find if it's your first time. There are no signs that show you which way the cafe is, even though they do have road signs to which of the craft buildings are where. We finally get there and people are just walking in and getting sat. No reservation was needed and we probably could have come for lunch. Once we were sat and ordered, our food took almost an hour to come out. An hour. The waitress, who passed us often, never said anything to us except for near the end of our wait, when she said our table was "soon". The food comes and everything is very salty. The eggs were weirdly salty and I tried to brush it off, but the meat was also too salty and the potatoes. The potatoes luckily had the herbs and were crunchy. The biscuit was pretty bland, but the jelly was good. Also we didn't know people here are just acting like Covid doesn't exist at all here. No masks from staff or patrons, no distancing whatsoever. While the CDC is saying masks aren't needed as of this week, seeing everyone just hardcore abandon them and crowd into this place made me uneasy. If we came back to Waco, we'd probably look somewhere else. I am confused why everyone raves about this place between the service and salty food. read more
