Very impressed by the offerings, salads sandwiches and burgers. Not a ton of variety but everything we had was exceptional quality. The 30 minute wait was well worth it at Monday's lunch. We spent the wait time exploring the property because they have a text alert waiting list. Chips were warm, salsa was fresh and roasted and packed with herby goodness, guac was perfectly mixed. My brother got poblano soup and Monterrey melt and thought it was the best sandwich/soup combo he's had in town. My salad was crisp and the Mediterranean chicken sandwich was small but a perfect portion for me; the balsamic made the bottom bread slice soggy but it tastes great. This little place is a hidden gem. Just a few miles west of I-35 north of Waco lies the agrarian community of Brazos de Dios. Within this self sustaining place is Cafe Homestead. They are open for a snack, lunch or an early dinner. Save room for killer desserts (key lime pie and peanut butter pie are just a couple of homemade delights) and homemade ice cream and frozen yogurt. Soups, salads and sandwiches round out the menu. While you wait for your table, spend some time looking around the potter's shed and the weaver's and woodworking building. You can watch or arrange for classes taught by the craftsmen. They also have a working mill and a gift shop filled with hand made items for sale. Take your time on your way and make a stop. It's well worth your time. read more

Fresh food, excellent service, great atmosphere! This might just be the best turkey sandwich I've ever had! The flavors were so full and popped in my mouth! The jalapeño cheddar sourdough melted in my mouth and the homemade ranch was spot on. The pablano pepper bisque had just the creamy mixed with slice and then for dessert, the chocolate cake hit the spot. If you question the little longer drive to eat here, don't. Come for lunch and make an afternoon looking through the shops and enjoying the paths. A great experience from start to finish! read more

My friend and i were in town for one night and This place was recommended by our AirBnB host. When we walked in they immediately told us there was a 10min wait. There were plenty of tables so that was a little strange. We asked to sit at the counter and they agreed and sat us immediately. Sitting at the counter was interesting. The waitress was very friendly. We had a very close view of how they prepared food. Much of the food was already cooked and in warmers. The servers wore latex gloves and grabbed handfuls of food from baking pans (hash browns) or warmers (sausages and turkey bacon). They also would move servings of hash browns and pancakes around from plate to plate by the handfuls with their hands.I found this a little odd but I guess they had on gloves? Halfway through watching them do this, one of the woman began doing this with no gloves. She also would pull down the completed papers with the orders and open the metal garbage with her hand to throw them away. She proceeded to then grab sausages and bacon and put them on plates without washing her hands or putting on gloves. After she did this twice I flagged down an employee, a manager i think, and asked if all the food servers were supposed to wear gloves. She said yes and I pointed to the woman who was not. I mentioned she had been touching the garbage can and touching/serving food with her bare hand. When the other woman went to question her she said yes she had been doing that and put gloves on. She did however give me a bit of a rude look. I didn't want to say anything but it was making me feel ill. Also my friend was pregnant and though neither of us wanted to get sick, I was very concerned about her. Anyhow, food was mediocre but we just had the Homestead Breakfast Plate so nothing special. Majority of people were nice so gave it 2 stars instead of 1. read more

Absolutely delicious! One of the only vegetarian friendly restaurants near Waco. Everything was delicious and probably from their farm. We had the cheese sampler which they make there as well. Their Brazos Valley cheese has won awards and is vegetarian since they use vegetable rennet. Will need to rerun earlier in the day next time in order to see all of the craft houses. read more

I have eaten here several times and EVERYTHING is delicious, fresh and homemade. My daughter has to follow a gluten free diet and they have items on the menu that were perfect for her. They also offer a gluten free bun to substitute on their sandwiches so she had many more options. The staff is helpful with suggestions and answered all of our questions. My family and I were in Waco on a Saturday and saw on multiple websites that this restaurant was highly recommended. We decided to put ourselves on the waitlist and I'm glad that we did. The wait was 1.5 hrs for our party of 6, but it was definitely worth the wait. Our waitress Tabitha H was AMAZING. She was very friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. We ordered the Sriracha burger, cheese burger, chicken quesadilla, southwest burger, and chicken fried steak. Everything was delicious!! Even our kids (3 year old and 4 year old) were satisfied. They were especially impressed by the quesadilla and fries. You can tell that the owners and employees take pride in their work. Everything was very well done. I absolutely recommend that everyone stop by this restaurant if you're in Waco. Make sure that you put yourself on the waitlist ahead of time though. read more
