Slow food, but absolutely delicious!! Lunch for six took about an hour and 15 minutes but everything was SO good. The service was so attentive. Here is my one pet peeve that lots of restaurants do: if you are going to put a sauce on a grilled shrimp remove the tail first!! read more

Pleasantly surprised as was expecting 3 star experience like it's rated. This place is way better than that!. Everything was delicious and super reasonably priced. Seafood crepe was creamy good. Eggplant joann was flavorful and fried nicely. The shrimp surprisingly was the only thing not good in it. Had to be just a bad one. The spinach and Tasso bisque was fantastic but would have been better with actual Tasso in it. Still wasn't disappointing and drank it like it was a cocktail. The stuffed filet was great. All the sauces on all the dishes were delicious and paired well. Impressed. Had the mango colada martini. I could have drank a pitcher of that. Plus on a Friday night martinis are $6! The house Merlot was not good. Will definitely come back to try other things. All of that and I was under $100. Solid 4.5 stars for me here but did 5 to help their rating. read more

We went on a off night so there wasn't that many people in the restaurant. The food and the waitress were good, but I was expecting a whole fish not just a fillet. The biggest problem I saw was when 3 men went in and after they were seated, there was too much talking between them and the 3 waitresses that they were talking to. They have been in there before of course, but I heard one of the men say, when they were alone, (that's why you don't make I contact) I was sitting away from the men, and my opinion, it was unprofessional read more

Went for lunch for the second time. First time was pretty slow and just didn't have the time to wait so had to have them pack it up and we took it with us. This time was such a treat. Nice wine pour and spaghetti and meatballs were pretty spot on. Easy to relax and have a quiet conversation without the noise. read more

Really good food and service. Also love the location right at the sea wall with plenty parking. We would drive an hour every Friday night to pick up food. My husband ordered spaghetti with no cheese every time. All was great for a few months then they put Parmesan on his spaghetti and unfortunately we found out after driving the whole hour home. He let it go the first two times even though he was left hungry both times. They wrap to go plates in plastic wrap so it doesn't leak everywhere, which is an awesome idea, but you can't look at the food before you leave. The third time was it and he won't go back anymore. The service and food were amazing. Our waitress was very attentive to our needs, and easy to converse with. We met the manager and had a nice chat with her as well. My wife had the grilled tuna topped with shrimp, and I had the veal parm. Everything was delicious at a very reasonable cost. The wine seller is in an old vault from the bank that was once located there. Adds a great touch to the already welcoming ambiance. Five solid stars for me, we will be back soon!!! read more

There are non-existent dining options in MC. That said, this place is BY FAR the nicest restaurant in town. The food was good. Nothing off the charts, but good. For the price and quality, not sure if I'd go there again. read more

Way too much for just Ok food. My crabcake was more cake than crab, I had to keep taking sips of water to wash it down since it sucked up the moisture in my mouth. My soup was ok, but overpriced for just a cup. The entree, redfish topped with crabmeat was small and not filling, and cost about twice what it should have. I was a little shocked when they brought my bill out. I would recommend going someplace else, it's a bit shabby and way too expensive. read more

Our group of four couples walked into Cafe JoJo's on Friday night at about 6:45 PM, and the restaurant had only about three occupied tables downstairs. We were seated promptly, and had the fortune to have a charming server named Chrissy, who greeted us and took drink orders. The drinks came reasonably quickly, but the martinis were definitely not anything to write home about. The beers were fine; the wine was overchilled. About 10 minutes later we received menus, then ordered. After nearly one hour, we still had not received our food (although Chrissy had checked with us 2-3 times to let us know "the kitchen is backed up because of a large party upstairs"). One of our party knew the owner/manager, went to speak to her, and was told the food was being plated. It showed up within 10 minutes, and the food was both excellent and inexpensive, but it had been over an hour from the time we had ordered until we received it. This is simply not acceptable. The owner (Jo Jo ?) never came to the table to apologize, never comped a drink nor a dessert, nor offered a discount. While we do not live in Morgan City, I'd never patronize this restaurant again based on the service we received. We don't blame Chrissy, as she was wonderful. We blame the kitchen and management/ownership. If you can't service what you sell, don't sell it. read more

I'm a native of MC and had heard good things about Cafe Jo Jo's. They catered an event for a us a few years ago and the food was fantastic. This was my first chance to try the restaurant. I was a little leery based on reviews - they seemed to run hot and cold. We were greeted and seated promptly. Our server Melinda was friendly and attentive the entire meal. Our tea glasses never emptied and as any southerner will tell you that's the hallmark of a good server! The food was really good - we had the Eggplant JoAnn and the white beans and fried shrimp. The shrimp were near perfection - hot, crisp and seasoned to perfection. The eggplant JoAnn could have used a little more eggplant but otherwise was fantastic. The white beans were just so so but not bad. The bread was heavenly - hot, dense, soft. A really great meal overall. Would definitely visit again! read more

I don't get "home" to the town of my birth as often as I'd like, and certainly don't get to enjoy Jo'Jo's as often as I would if I could. Even coming from New Orleans, it's one of my favorite restaurants. Consistently excellent dishes, good service, and affordable wine. The Seafood Crepes is one of the most delicious thing I've ever eaten, crab cakes are excellent, and the Italian dishes are delicious. Last time a special was a soft shell crab with linguini and Alfredo sauce that was easily the best I've ever tasted. An absolute treat that should be treated as a treasure by the locals! read more

The food here is amazing! It never lets me down. My three favorites are the chicken parm, chicken rotini and chicken Marsala. Yeah I'm a chicken fan but theirs steaks are AMAZING too!!! Not a fan of the crepes because they're so good and it's not enough on the plate haha! I can make myself sick off their crab cakes and homemade bread! Mmmmmm oh and their chicken wraps!! My husband and I go here when we want a nice, quiet dining experience with good food and great service. The servers are always top notch, and my husband orders something that's not really on the menu - and they always allow it. The home-made bread is delicious, great for sopping up the delectable sauces that accompany our entrees. I had wanted to venture into this long-lived establishment for years, but never did. Now that I am married, I figured that I aught to bring my wife there, as it is the only higher-end joint to go stuff your face at in the Morgan City area, other than the Petroleum Club. I think I will join the club in the near future. Been there a few times, but this is not about them. Sorry for the digression. Well, my wife got the tuna, which she thought was fantastic, and I decided to nibble on the veal marsala, which knocked my sox off! Well, maybe not, I don't remember if I was wearing sox. Coulda been in my flip-flops as they do not have a dress code. Dress codes are nice when going for a a special meal... Por nuestras entradas we tried the crab and artichoke cream dish. It was not what I expected. It was decent. But it was a lot more crab than artichoke, wasn't even sure that there was artichoke at first, and it was more of a soup than a dip. We also got the crawfish bread which happened to be kinda excellent. I am nearly certain our server was brand new to serving, so it did not bother me much that she knew nothing about wine, and was somewhat of a clumsy server. You would expect that one would have been trained a little better. She also held the attitude of someone serving at a Denny's diner rather than a high-falutin' joint. When I am paying for a decent meal, I want my server to be a professional server. I do not blame the server, she was new, and not trained on the art of serving. Overall, I did enjoy the food, and will probably return here in the future. I do wish they would properly train their servers, and have them eat all of their meals while pairing wines with them. I have worked in restaurants, and have had the opportunity to learn from some fantastic maitre-d's. I worked mostly back of the house, but have also been known to infiltrate the servers. I swear, I was not trying to be one, I was just a spy. I was NOT a turncoat! Ahem. Anywho, I suggest they revamp the training of their front-house staff, and implement a dress code. OMGosh!!! The absolute worst food I have ever eaten!! Special was fried catfish with lemon butter sauce & shrimp. Lemon sauce was so strong I puckered! Couldn't even eat it for the bitterness. The other special catfish with crab etouffe sauce was bland except for the big scoop of salt they dumped in it--again, inedible. And the bread, well you get the picture. Sad that I can only give two stars as the restaurant is very nice and so was the service. Problem is I ordered grilled chicken on a house salad and my chicken wasn't cooked!! That is a dangerous thing. Our poor waitress was mortified and I was glad that I didn't eat the middle uncooked parts. If the chef can't cook chicken strips, he really shouldn't be at a nice restaurant like Jo Jo's. So, I was pretty disappointed and a little embarrassed with my clients sitting there with me. The waitress cut my salad price in half but it was very sad. I had a 5 hour drive and it could have been really bad had I not checked the middle of my chicken. read more

They have a good Menu, staple items such as the Tuna Steak and Seafood Ravioli are delicious. Usally accompanied by a vegetable of the day, which is the same then for other dishes. The deserts are good, the Creme Brulee cheescake is great. The only thing that could be improved upon is the service, as it is rather slow. Plan on a 2 hour meal at dinner. We had reservations last nite. Eight for dinner. Our party was seated at 6:30 PM. Crissy was our waitress. Very professional and attentive. She was the bright light of the nite. We ordered drinks and were served immediately. A few minutes after serving our drinks, Crissy took our dinner order. I would guess that was around 7:00. It was after 8:30 when we received our meals. Although the food was actually excellent, two hours was a bit much. Crissy continued to report the progress throughout the evening. We never saw the manager in charge. We received our bill which included every charge in full. Other than Crissy almost getting down on her knees and apologizing for the ridiculous wait for the kitchen to produce our food, we never received any apology by the management. Thank you guys for participating in our open house on Friday, the shrimp in cream sauce with penne pasta was a huge hit. There was very little of it left and that was finished off too!! It was delish!! If you are looking for a little upscale without the very upscale price Cafe Jojo's is it! Love the atmosphere here, they have a huge variety of dishes to choose from, you are sure to find something to tantalize your taste buds! Do not ask me why I went back....well I thought it would get better. My family and I went there for an occasion and believe me I will not go back. There food was not worth the price they are asking. As for the serve it was crap and the waitress never checked on us after getting our food. I think that should be the first thing you do is ask if everything is okay and she was no where to be found. Everything was entirely too salty. The appetizers (seafood crepe and seafood eggplant) would have been delicious had they not put so much salt in the sauces. Why???? If I want it salter, I can add more salt myself. The pasta entrees were just bad. Generic, bland creamy buttery sauces that were, once again, entirely too salty. One of the entrees was a white sauce with spiral pasta and chicken--in addition to the aforementioned genericness, this dish also had a ridiculous amount of black pepper. I am a professional trained chef in New Orleans. I am the son of a chef and my grandfather was the legendary New Orleans chef Nathaniel Burton. I have worked at Antoine's, Commanders Palace, and Arnalds and have worked along side of Paul Prudhomme, Emeril Lagasse, Leah Chase to name a few. With my training and experience in restaurant management and food service I feel I an uniquely qualified to give this review. I have in-laws in Morgan City and I visit often. Usually when I visit I cook for the family but occasionally we go out to eat. I realize that the Morgan City area is culinary challenged and have very few good places to eat but Cafe Jojo's was recommended and we visited there two times within the last six months. Call me a glutton for punishment because I should never have been back after the first visit. I like the atmosphere of the building, clean, old, dimly lit and somewhat romantic. The service staff was friendly and helpful and I would have no problem hiring them to work at my restaurant. Unfortunately this is where the accolades end. The food was a disaster. The Spaghetti tasted like it fell out of a baby's diaper. The sauce was strong and bitter like none I have ever tasted before. I would have been happier with a can of spaghetti sauce than this crapola. The rest of the meal (and I did taste everything ordered) was either too bland or over seasoned, The seasoning was very unbalanced and is indicative of a poorly trained chef of cook. The crab cakes need to be renamed bread cakes because of the lack of crab. The soup was sour, the fish tasted frozen and the crepes were overcooked and burned. In general the food was ill prepared and very overpriced. I will not be going back and would never recommend this place to others. THe only good reviews are from people who have never tasted good food cooked by a properly trained chef. GO TO McDONALDS AND YOU WILL BE HAPPIER AND SAVE A BUNCH OF MONEY. read more

Just happened to order a plate lunch (didn't even know they offered this)...chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, and peas. It was absolutely the best thing EVER. I couldn't get over it even a week later. I depend on the reviews here to help me get the best meal I can so I'm a little perplexed about the other ones here. This is one of my family's favorite restaurants in town! We've never had a bad meal or bad service in all the years we have been going there. We tend to save it for special occasions, birthdays, anniversaries, date night, etc because it's one of the pricier restaurants in town. But it is well worth it. I have eaten here twice in the last year. Again, a dining scene IS non-existent in Morgan City. This is all the have besides the Petroleum Club. I had hope due to the fact that this area was settled and still has a large amount of Sicilian families. And they have this eggplant stack on their menu that is also served in other close by cities that have decent Italian restaurants. But this is what we call Guido Italian. Everything is covered in a cream sauce. The staff is inconsistent. Prices are high for the area. No one has any knowledge of wine period but acts as if they do. Does not seem to be a consistent bartender or anyone that has any education in mixology. Serves veal piccata with NO CAPERS, what? If you are looking for ONLY a bowl of spaghetti or lasagna like some non-Italian you know used to make it, this is the place for you. If you have traveled throughout the US and know what good real Italian is, drive on to New Orleans. Locals are used to this level of Italian cooking and they fill the tables on the weekend. I think the owners need to invest in fresh decor and lots of training for their kitchen and serving staff. Maybe send them to WINO in New Orleans for wine education. And hire a well trained bartender and a back up. read more

A restaurant in Morgan City with an atmosphere? A little hard to believe but there is such a place here. For a moment you walk in you almost forget that you're in Morgan City with the dim lighting. The downside is a lack of variety from a fairly small menu and a bit pricy but they've got a decent bar. Maybe not a place that you'd eat at every day but at least they're open later than most non-fast food restaurants in town. Makes you wish Morgan City's Front Street area had more of these places as it would sure liven things up and attract more visitors. After all, who strolls this area after dark to window shop hardware stores and look at a store front with broken up mannequins or old trashy bars close by? If this area were truly serious and proud about its Historical District they'd make it more appealing to decent evening folks, not two steps away from skid row and drunks that seriously tarnishes this city's charm. read more
