Had a wonderful experience at the downtown Cafe Kubal yesterday. Stopped in for a coffee with my friend and left with knowledge. I mean I might consider myself quite the coffee aficionado now haha. I inquired about their pour over coffees. I heard of them because they are very trendy right now. Supposedly pour over enhances flavor and makes the coffee rich and bold. Which I will agree. The gentleman behind the counter had no problem assisting me with ordering such hand crafted beverage. It was a unique and pleasant experience. Instead of getting asked "cream and/or sugar" I was able to try something new and fresh as well as learn a little about the variety of coffee. Since I really didn't know what I should go for. The gentleman happily recommend what he thought would be best for my virgin tastebuds (a lighter roast, I forget the name) which I very much appreciated. Staff was very helpful and wasn't annoyed by my inexperience and happy to talk to me about the different coffees. We also enjoyed some amazing treats on the large leather couch. I had a blueberry lemon muffin and my friend enjoyed a chocolate chip banana bread slice. Will be back for more coffee since that pour over kept me going hours. Oh also smelled amazing in there. I'm a big fan of Cafe Kubal, especially this location. The atmosphere is very comfortable and conducive to a morning or an afternoon of productivity. I often bring work here and always manage to get a lot done. The coffee is also good. Most of it is strong, even the light roasts, which I like. The pour-overs do cost more and they take a few minutes to prepare, but as their friendly employees will tell you, they're definitely worth it. If you haven't had one (here or elsewhere), they grind the coffee and then put it in a funnel before slowing pouring the water over it. The coffee comes out smoother and less acidic. If you have the extra cash and the time, I highly recommend it! Also, Cafe Kubal boasts a surprisingly big and diverse menu of food items. I've tried several of their pastries, but my favorite is the lemon-cheese Danish. In fact, it's not only my favorite at Cafe Kubal but quite possibly my all-time favorite pastry. It's amazing! Especially if you get there first thing in the morning and the pastries are super fresh, the dough is very light and airy but also crispy. The lemon is not too tart and mixes beautifully with the cheese. You can't go wrong with any of their pastries, but this one really is a cut above the rest. If you're downtown and need a cup of morning coffee or an afternoon pick-me-up, this is a great place. read more

This place pretty much knows me by name now and it's time I gave them the good review they deserve. You walk into the building and you immediately smell coffee. Not just the "morning" smell- a strong, wrap me in a blanket and give me a good book kind of feeling. This location is the best place to get coffee in the area for sure. I frequent there in the morning. The barista knows what I want when I walk in and they are always spot on with recommendations knowing my taste buds. The breakfast burritos are amazing. My go to for a morning I am skipping my protein shakes- black bean mozzarella burrito. They fill a whole wheat tortilla with black beans, scrambled eggs, mozzarella, green peppers, and sweet chili mayo. The combination is genius. Paired with a kubal dark roast or a fireside roast it will turn any bad Monday around. The pour overs are amazing. If you get the chance do a fireside pour over with a shot of pumpkin. The flavors are out of this world. I cannot forget to mention the one thing that hooked me on this place to begin with. The peppermint hot coco. It will heal a broken heart. If you don't believe me the drink will speak for itself. They have since introduced me to the Myan hot cocoa which is the perfect amount of spicy and chocolate. Great for an afternoon pick me up. If you're in the area for lunch try the upstate grinder sandwich or the kuballer. Hearty enough to defrost you from the central New York freeze but you won't be in a carb coma falling asleep at your desk later. Fresh ingredients ALWAYS ALWAYS. Great cafe in downtown Syracuse. I swear they are artists with coffee here! In addition to coffee drinks, there is a good variety of a la carte foods and made to order selections. The atmosphere is very upscale and conducive to both getting a little work done or having good conversation. Unfortunately, due to the location (downtown Syracuse and one block form a major Centro hub), you occasionally get some street stragglers coming in, and both times I have been here, I have seen non-customers in the cafe asking people or staff for hand outs. read more

Excellent coffee...not for the Dunkin Donuts crowd. I had an iced Americano with almond milk and it was the best I've ever had. They have an excellent Oolong Coconut tea as well. Hands down the best coffee you will find in Syracuse. I dont recommend this place for lunch -- they sill have to work out the kinks. Sometimes their soups are too salty. Their overall lunch selection varies day to day and isnt very reliable for a garunteed delicious experience. read more

This place is a great hangout for writers, artists, or any school kid. Even adults on their lunch break can easily stop by to get a pick me up since it's in the heart of downtown.
