One of the best spots to work remotely in Syracuse, for sure! Brought my laptop. Came early in the morning and it was super easy to get a table. Also worth noting, there seemed to be an outlet at every table, boosting the "work or study spot" vibe. Also a great spot to meet friends for a cuppa. It's rare that a cafe strikes both of those atmospheres so perfectly - social and work-friendly. The cafe itself is extremely cozy and charming, located in a converted house. There are a few tables outside on the porch and when I left some folks were enjoying the sunshine. (Note that around lunchtime it did start to get a bit more crowded and a little louder, which is understandable given how great a spot it is.) HUGE bathroom, very clean. The coffee is amazing. I got an Iced Lavender Berry Latte, and it was very well-made and refreshing. They're known for their cereal milk lattes, and their cold brew is also fantastic. Honestly, I have no fear of trying anything on the menu because I know whatever I get will be quite nice. The baristas were also very friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. Honestly, this place is the whole package. A wonderful experience on every level. Aesthetic, relaxing, tasty, energizing - just a delight. They definitely earn the right to have "Salt City" in their namesake because they are one of the best (if not the best) in town.

Stopped by this cozy cafe during a short weekend stay in Syracuse. I'm glad i did because the coffee is great! I ordered a hot latte with whole milk. It was simple, but it was delicious. I didn't stay to drink my coffee, but there's plenty of seating inside. It looks like a great place to study or read a book. The baristas are friendly and move fast. There's plenty of parking behind the cafe which is inside an old house on Onondaga St.

I have visited the location inside the Salt City Market. I was thrilled when I saw they had golden milk on their menu as well as a cortado. Service was efficient. My drinks were great but a little bit overflowing in the cups they were put in.

This is a cute cafe with a comfortable casual atmosphere! They have so many books you can read while you eat! The service was exceptional! Though it was bustling with collage students it didn't feel cramped and the two workers were able to get drinks and food out quickly and effeciently. I tried a honey lavender donut and an everything bagel breakfast sandwich with bacon, egg, cheese, and siracha mayo. The food was just ok, the siracha mayo was very tasty and I enjoyed the flavor of the honey lavender donut, but it was very grainy and the dried lavender flowers on top of the donut was a bit much.

Breakfast sandwich with sriracha mayo. 16 oz cold brew with maple and almond milk.

I've been going to Salt City for about a year now, but it's always been the university location. I was blown away by how different this location is!! I love the ambiance much more, as it's super cozy and chill. As always, the coffee and food is great, but I think this location does even more than what university does! Would highly recommend going here.

Spectacular coffee (market roast is my favorite) and better customer service! After a brief discussion about my coffee preferences, the folks behind the counter offered suggestions and samples. Funky location in a nifty food court. Looks like a great place to hang out - so many people were greeted like regulars!

Love, Love , LOVE this place. It is definitely my favorite coffee house in the area ( and I think I may have just been to all of them hehe). The service is always incredibly great, the drinks are always stellar, and the atmosphere truly cannot be beat. What makes Salt City the best in my eyes: homemade syrups and an everchanging menu. I get sick of the same flavors being used shop-to-shop but at salt city, not only do they update the menu often, but they include house-made syrups and ingredients! A coffee shop after my own heart :,) For me, this makes drinks not sit so heavy in my stomach after drinking them. You can tell the baristas are creative and care about the craft , and that is EVERYTHING when it comes to a coffee house. This location is definitely my favorite because it has such a cozy atmosphere, the best place for rainy-day coffee. I recommend the Black Cherry Mocha - it is to die for. Also their lavender latte is the best I have ever had- with house-made syrup!! But truly everything I have ever gotten here is incredible.

Love this location! Great coffee and great environment to get some work done. There's plenty of outlets around too. Staff are super friendly as well.

Whole beans, my Cafe Mocha (with orange flavor), and what's left of my breakfast sandwich.

They also sell some very cute greeting cards, earrings, magnets, etc. We ordered two drinks (Ube Espresso, Crème Brûlée latte), a flower pot mini cake (chocolate cake with raspberry filling in a decorative flower pot), a crème brûlée donut, and a spinach puff. The desserts were good, with the flower pot mini cake being our favorite. The chocolate cake was moist and the raspberry filling was balanced. We didn't love the flower frosting on top, but it was very pretty. The donut was very unique and filled to the brim with a fluffy cream - though we both thought it could've had a bit more flavor. The dough was perfect - soft and pillowy. The crème brûlée top made for a fun eating experience as the thin hard sugar had a satisfying crunch. The spinach puff was also delicious. Flaky pastry and cheesy filling - very comforting. The stars of the show were the drinks. The coffee was superb - balanced, smooth, and rich in flavor. While I didn't find the ube flavor to stand out, the ube espresso drink was still one of my favorite coffee drinks I've had. The Crème Brûlée latte was my friend's favorite - it was the perfect dessert drink. It even had the sugar crust on top. I would definitely come back to try more of their menu!

There was plenty of indoor and outdoor seating with a moderate but fast moving line that started at the door. My husband said the oat milk latte had a great espresso to milk ratio and the "day old" banana split cookie did not taste stale at all and was delicious. My matcha was a bit on the lighter/mild side for the matcha taste and I'd probably get something different next time as their specialty drinks looked really tasty. I told the cashier that I ordered a large and she in turn said she accidentally put it in as a small. I asked her why the small cost so much - her reply is that I was charged an extra $2.00 for no ice! They did remake my coffee with no ice. They are charging their customers $2.00 for no ice and not informing the customer of this extra cost. Morally ridiculous!

Overall, I enjoyed my visit. The vibe was relaxed and low-key, making it a good place to sit down and get some work done. I spent some time working while I was there and appreciated having a space where I could focus without feeling rushed. The staff was pleasant, and one of the employees was kind enough to take a picture for me when I asked, which I appreciated. The only thing that stood out to me was that there wasn't much of a greeting or acknowledgment when I walked in, but it wasn't a huge issue. The seating was okay. The chair I chose wasn't the most comfortable for an extended stay, but it got the job done. There was also some rock music playing during my visit, which helped create a casual atmosphere. I didn't order any coffee or food this time around, so I can't speak to the menu yet. This visit was more about finding a place to work and unwind for a bit. Would I come back? Yes. While I'm still searching for my go-to coffee lounge in Syracuse, Recess is definitely a spot I'd visit again. Started walking in this general direction and the wonderful aroma of coffee varieties drew me in!…read moreSome of the coffees are actually named after some of the actual Finger Lakes, so that's cool. Went up to the counter and asked the young man a couple of (what I thought were) easy questions and he seemed like he could care less what I was saying and didn't want to be there. He gave a vague answer that didn't really quite answer my question. My daughter ordered a coffee and asked for beans to be ground while I was thinking about what I wanted to order. He prepared hers and I asked for my order. In the meantime my daughter noticed that he had filled it and had not included the oat milk she had asked for and she asked again for that. He put it on the counter for her to add, but there was no room to really add it. She put in a little and then I added a little to mine as well. He had handed her the bag of beans while cashing us out and she noticed that they were not ground...as she had asked him to do prior...so she had to ask again. In the meantime she had to dribble some of her coffee into a garbage dispenser so she could put the lid back on and drink from the cup. So, overall, the coffee smelled and tasted great, but the service was poor. The guy was not trying to be friendly or helpful at all. I get he probably didn't really want to be working, but he was. Sometimes you need to just accept it, drink a cup of your own coffee, wake up, and at least try to be "present" and accommodating. Luckily we are very easy-going people and just rolled with it without complaint. Until now I guess. I absolutely hate to put negative things in a review, but that was our real experience. Will I go again? Sure. I always give second and usually third chances. People have off days. My challenge to this young man is that next time someone shows up, actually say, "How can I help you?" and actually mean it and then be helpful. This is all we ask. The smell and taste of the product will sell itself and bring people in. I'd love to update this review in the future with glowing comments!
