I love cozy atmosphere of Cafe Martin. Good coffee, muffins, scones, croissants and nice crowd.

Cafe Martin has been my neighborhood go-to spot for my morning coffee, raisin danish, and daily digest of neighborhood gossip since they opened a bit over a year ago. Fortunately, they've recently extended their hours and product selection, which now includes an evening wine and beer service (red, white, sparking, and three or four beers) along with select aperativo plates with various cured meats. It's a great place to go for a quiet date, or to sip some rose while reading a book but without the typical distractions of a bar atmosphere. The night-time counterman, Paul, is equally handsome and friendly and will make sure you're well taken care of -- after all, he's been trained by Martin himself. read more

Figured that I should visit this coffee shop after a long walk from downtown Brooklyn. I was really thirsty for some water and figured to stop by to this coffee shop to read my book as well. The barista, if that's what you can even call her, was rude. She was annoyed that I asked a cup of water with ice and told me that if I was going to purchase anything. I told her that I wanted to read for a bit and she told me that this wasn't a library but a business. There were only white people in the establishment. This is definitely not POC safe space. I'm surprised by the overglowing reviews. No doubt, the coffee is tasty and very lovingly prepared. But the attitude has to go. I thought it was just that one time; it's not. I thought it was just the owner; it's not, as evidenced by the other guy with the stick up his ass. It's a cute place; I'd like it to be there a long time so we don't get stuck with Ozzy's-like subpar quality, but I find myself redirecting my coffee travel to Southside, where I get love AND excellent coffee. read more

I was not a regular coffee drinker until I discovered the cappuccino at Cafe Martin a few years ago. Their other drinks are great too, but the cappuccino is really the best around. And I love the space so much - it's tiny but homey and is a true neighborhood staple where people feel welcomed. Love the staff too. The closest coffee shop to me was closed. I ventured to another shop I found listed on yelp. I am glad I took the short walk to experience a new place. The shop was small with a cozy atmosphere. Martin was courteous and efficient. After a short wait, I received my coffee. It was the best I have had in recent memory. I will definitely return for future morning wake ups. read more

This is my favorite coffee place. The coffee is ridiculously strong and the lattes are terrific as well. It often gets crowded but if you find yourself there during a quiet period there are lots of good magazines there. I like to go in the morning when Martin is working, but I also dig the wine they have on happy hour in the early evenings. read more

Don't get it! What is it about freak shows? Emperor's clothes and all that! Because this isn't about coffee. Its some strange movement. Strange strange! Depressing beyond words. The ambiance is too close to clinical and the Americano is all wrong. I used to go to his original place before I moved down to this end of the slope and I didn't get the banter then either. My landlady knew him from Ozzies and he wasn't any nicer then! I'm not slow witted but sensitive. I also want to buy my coffee without well having to calibrate the mental well being of the barista. read more

Methinks this spot is like the base camp for Park Slope's limousine liberals. I hauled ass getting out of there this morning as a gang of friends (of the owner, I believe) started piling up too high, blabbering on and on about ... well, y'know, the same ol' same ol' they've learned about in them fancy books and charitable work and whatnot. But hey, I'd take it over a Trump-loving spot any day. Apart from that, this was a charming spot to walk into early this Sunday morning. Martin was a tad awkward, but polite, and the design and decor of the place, paired with the calming, totally NOT run-of-the-mill classical music, made for a lovely start to my day. The large coffee comes in a giganto mug (unlike other coffee shops where you can barely tell the difference between large and small), and their almond croissant is on point. There's a bar attached to the exterior where can lock up your bike safe from the 5th ave traffic, or use to tie up a dog leash. The kids who came in were well-behaved, esp considering this is the land of over-parented, over-privileged youth. Parents actually mind their children here, holy SH*T! Prices are standard. There are newspapers a plenty to borrow. I didn't see any wifi, but didn't care to ask as the atmosphere made me content to simply sit, read, and enjoy my coffee and croissant. With the gross amounts of coffee shops attempting to achieve that vibe, in theory it seems so odd that this concept is rarely achieved - but this cafe makes it work.
