Cafe on the DL is aptly named, being an unassuming restaurant with really good food. We got the Dirty Jersey breakfast sandwich and the weekly omelet. The omelet was very good, but the Dirty Jersey was one of the best breakfast sandwiches I've had in a long time. The hot coffee was good, though we felt the cold brew was a bit bitter. The building was also very welcoming, with a beautiful Walt Whitman mural at the back and a handout table featuring local events. We will definitely be back soon to try more of the menu. read more

Came midday. I'm going to try to keep the expectations a little lower. No greeting when I walked in. That's a pet peeve for me, but I have been here before as a doordasher and the same lady was kind. Ordered the special. Chicken Caesar sub. Came to about $13 or so. Steady flow of customers. Wait was about 10 minutes or so. At $13 I'm expecting something bigger but upon opening it. I can see how they price. Just different I guess for the area. I would give this sandwich a 10 but besides the size, the roll although a good selection, it's like you got a fresh roll and it went to the next day or maybe late in the same day. It just don't hit the same. But other than that I'd double back to see what else is on the menu. read more

Food was really really good. It's a bit pricey considering it doesn't come with a side but I think that shows in the quality! I think the food is super fresh and it's dense/big enough where you definitely feel full. The chicken sandwich was super light and not greasy, which can be hard to achieve with fried chicken. And the buffalo wasn't overpowering either. Incredibly delicious. The wrap was so refreshing. Service was slow and awkward. We did consider getting up and leaving at one point while we waited. That sandwich was amazing. Think it was called truff, buff and crispy. I would've never ordered it, but asked for recommendation for a first timer. Also went with the fries since they are homemade. This place didn't disappoint. From the bread, to the crispy chicken, to the various veggies and condiments, this sandwich was amazing. Texture, taste made it very memorable. This is a true hidden gem! Of course those in the know are already well aware. Well curated menu and my selections proved to be dynamite! I went with the Truff, Buff, and crispy and it was a hit! Crispy and delicious with a great bun. Just everything about it was like if Stephen Starr opted to go into fast casual dining and up the ante on regular lunch fare. This spot has been on my to try list for a while now. This past Saturday our plans didn't work out for dinner and I remembered this spot and we were so happy we went. We all had three different dishes: pasta, short ribs, chicken cordon bleu and we polished off everything. I initially was going to take half home because the portions are generous but my friends were more than happy to polish my leftovers on the spot. We love the relaxed atmosphere, we're impressed by the waitress/receptionist who was so sweet and I'm excited to go back. Food was also served promptly which was great . A local gem in an unassuming building. The menu has a good variety. I went for the cool cow and the mushroom bisque, plus the angry cowboy tots to share. Everything was delicious and made quickly. My biggest issue is that I had a hard time deciding what to select because so many things sounded delicious. I don't know where to start! First it's in what looks like it was a little strip of stores so I didn't expect much! It has a beautiful mural on the wall about Walt Whitman. We tried Cafe On The DL for lunch today and it was fantastic! I had the DL Burger with American cheese along with their tomato soup. We also had their DL fries which are fresh cut daily. Everything was exceptionally delicious and we will certainly be going back there soon. My daughter had their Caesar salad along with chicken noodle soup and a half BLT sandwich. Our only regret is that we didn't visit sooner. We highly recommend it and look forward to our next visit. read more

Yes A hidden Gem for sure.My sister lives 10 from this place. We both had the Tomato Biscuit Soup. This soup was amazing. For lunch I got the Beet & Pebbles Salad . The portion was a great size and what a great salad. My sister got the Pumpkin Patchwork Quilt wrap. This was also so tasty. The menu itself is very creative and has something for everybody. I've been wanting to try Cafe on the DL again since I wasn't crazy about what I got the first time (a chicken Caesar on a roll...chicken was too thick and sandwich too messy for my liking) so I finally got lunch there recently. This time I had an amazing BLT on a hoagie roll. The bacon was very flavorful and the sandwich had the perfect amount. This sandwich is my reason for giving 5 !!! They have a great menu with specials and the food is amazing. If you are looking for ambiance this isn't the place. If you're looking for great coffee, not the place for this either. The young lady at the register did seem a little unorganized & overwhelmed with the "lunch crowd." I do think adding a nice coffee bar with some specialty coffee drinks using coffee from a local roaster could definitely bring in some more business! I will definitely stop by again and try something else on their menu...if not I'm having another BLT! read more

We wanted to try something new so we looked around and found this restaurant, it was new to the area and the food looked good. Unfortunately we were disappointed. Overall it was just in the middle, not great, not horrible. My wife ordered an egg salad sandwich, which they didn't have. So they asked us to substitute with another sandwich. We asked if they can make a vegetarian sandwich on whole wheat bread. They agreed and what we got was disappointing and seemed like there was zero care put into it. No condiments, no seasoning, no dressing, no cheeses, literally grabbed a handful of chopped up salad and threw it on two plain pieces of bread. $15 for that? That's insane. The Bavarian pretzels with the mustard and cheese dips were really good. The old bay fries were a small portion and soggy, could've been because of carry out which is fine and not anyone's fault. The chicken sandwich had a great taste but the meat was pink on the inside, I'm not sure if it was marinated and it left a pink hue or it was raw. Didn't finish it. The wings and their sauces were a hit, they were good and definitely recommend. The wings and pretzels were the standout items. I would recommend those two items. Overall it's meh. *updated. - The owner is correct and they did offer us a wrap that we had to decline because of the type of tortilla used. My wife has health conditions and her diet is stricter than most. Being disappointed in the moment, caused me to over look that aspect. My mistake. Also, it's fair I remove that you don't cater to vegetarians, it's a broad brush statement and in our case you didn't but you do have other options that would work for people. This place is a hidden treasure spot, literally it's like a scavenger hunt to find this place. But once you get there it's all worth it. I've been craving a fresh artisan sandwich that isn't a hoagie or cheesesteak which is hard to find in SJ. I got a waldorf chicken salad sandwich and a pesto chicken sandwich (Chicken Italiano) and wow they were both so delicious. They take normal lunch fare and upscale it with ingredients one would not have thought of. I had the Enlightenment. It was tuna salad upscaled with ingredients like Brie and asparagus. The sticks and stones (fries & tater tots) with my choice of garlic-parm sauce were very tasty. This cafe serves a variety of marvelous sandwiches, salads, flatbread pizzas, hamburgers, pasta, a few entrees, and unique starters. It will be my go-to place when visiting friends in the area. The staff is charming and service very good, but the standout is the quality of the food. For a whole on the wall little deli in a business park. The food is so good. Fresh chocolate chip cookie free for the new timers. Salad so fresh amazing with roasted butternut squash. The pesto sandwich is so good. It has a little following and I definitely see why. But definitely come back if I'm in the area. But also worth a little detour if you're driving down 73. OMG! Delicious experience! Not realizing it is not a sit down restaurant (located inside a commercial building), we rode around a bit before finding it. So glad we did! I enjoyed one of the best tasting sandwiches that still has my mouth salivating! It was the turkey Brie on whole grain bread instead of the offered wrap. It was a seasonal addition to the menu. Piled high with fresh moist great quality turkey, thick crispy lean bacon, avocado, greens, red onion, aioli & sliced strawberries...EXCELLENT! The chef was so friendly and his wife "L" was super duper as well, bubbly personalities...made us feel so special and welcomed! We were gifted their amazing chocolate chip cookies and a taste of their red velvet cookies. I'm not a fan of red velvet BUT I am now...at least in their house!!!
