Me and my GF , got there at a moment when there was no one in line. The lady did not acknowledge, say good morning or anything. We just felt kind of pressed to order our food right away and she seemed annoyed. We didn't what we ordering exactly because it was mainly in French. Got our number sat down, the waiter came with our food and no utensils. Told us where to get them, with pious attitude. Got utensils, and I asked if they had hot sauce. He said yes, he grabbed some behind his back and without any eye contact out them on the counter. I was confused by the off putting/non direct/no courtesy behavior, that I asked if the was for me. He smuggly looked at me, with the side of his eye and said yes. While his back was turned. Wow! Do people come in here to be treated like they are second class citizens. I went to this cafe with my friend who is Thai. When we ordered the barista Pearl was awfully cold. At one point during our coffee date, we then proceeded to hear Pearl and Amy talking about how embarrassing my friends name was. Specifically the conversation went "why would someone name their child ___. It might be cute when they are children but not as an adult." This might seem like a small conversation, however, it hit a soft spot with my friend. She grew up in a predominantly Caucasian school where she was made to feel insecure about her name and skin color. To be in a melting pot of culture in the east bay and to hear this was disappointing. I honestly can't believe this happened. It's the 21st century and a discriminatory conversation like this should not be taking place. You would think they would have known we could hear them. A friend and I stopped here for brunch and we were so disappointed by the food and coffee. We ordered a shakshuka, a breakfast sandwich, and a hot vanilla latte. The shakshuka was incredibly acidic. The base tasted like cold tomato sauce out of a jar. The sandwich was significantly better, but they charge extra if you want avocado and arugula. Finally, the vanilla latte was so mediocre. The espresso in it tasted off, and you could barely taste any of the vanilla syrup. It was also more watery than a standard latte should be. The cafe itself is aesthetic, with modern decor, ample sunlight, and beautiful plants. Unfortunately, I will always value quality tasting food and coffee more and Cafe Réveille didn't deliver in that department. read more

It is a cute little shop with seating, which is nice on a sunny day. However, the person assisting me wasn't very helpful. I'd never been here before so I didn't know what to order. On weekends they have a brunch only menu which has a limited 3-5 entree options. I got the breakfast bowl ($12.50) and matcha latte ($4.75). The bowl was delicious with clean flavors and a variety of textures (crunchy radishes, creamy lentils, chewy brown rice, leafy kale, pickled veg and more with two eggs). I liked the green sauce served in a little avocado bowl on the plate. The matcha latte was nicely done. You get the boldness and slight bitterness of matcha along with naturally sweet steamed milk. Overall it's a solid spot to spend a slow Saturday morning. The bowl was a little expensive for the amount of food (maybe more lentils would have made it more filling) and I wish they as served their whole menu as some of us can't make it here on weekdays. As a queer/gender queer person, the space is not only safe, but accepting and welcoming. I definitely have some favorite employees, Dwight (I think is his name) with long hair/bun-- is running the SHOW. Truly hoping this king makes 45+ an hour. Such a picturesque outdoor patio, with steel/clean industrial interior decor juxtaposed with lots of pink! Cafe Reveille is my go to spot for a pick me up after SoulCycle Berkeley. I always have what they're offering for a pour over (be prepared to wait. Usually takes like 10 minutes. They probably only have two pour overs?). It's also funny that none of their staff can tell you anything about their beans--from how its pronounced to it's flavor profiles. I always get a "oh I haven't tried it." Regardless, their Ethiopian roasts are probably the best in Berkeley. You can't beat its heightened candied-ness whereas most other roasters I've tried in the area are citrus forward in their Ethiopia's. My go to bites are usually the coconut chia pudding or the açaí. Both are average. And because so, overpriced lol. All in all, a good spot to grab awesome coffee in between 4th street errands. read more

It tasted like burnt hot coffee that had been poured over ice--tangy, tart, and very hard on the stomach. Sadly, this establishment used to be much nicer. Service has gone downhill, and the quality of product went with it. Today was my first time visiting Cafe Reveille and it was good. I can't say I'll be running back anytime soon, but it was a nice spot to enjoy the sun during the lunch hour. Like most places near 4th street during the week, it was fairly busy around noon when we arrived. We waited outside until the line moved up enough for us to step inside, however once inside there weren't any menus. My friend ask for a menu for the 3 of us and we got one to share, interesting but okay. I was in the mood for soup but also thought the BBAA sounded good. When it was my turn I asked about the soup of the day, which is on the menu- I was told they don't have soup. Like you ran out or just straight up don't have any? I went with my second choice and stepped to the side. Thankfully a table outside was just leaving so I grabbed that. Our food came out in fairly good time for 2 salads and a sandwich. I enjoyed the dressing on the side salad and the BBAA was tasty. What I didn't like was all the little hairs I kept finding on the sandwich. Honestly the first one I thought could've been mine so I moved past it, but after the 3rd one I just couldn't enjoy the sandwich any longer and was done. My coworkers enjoyed their salads and didn't seem to find any surprises which was great. The guy who was bringing the food out and cleaning tables was super nice and on top of it. We didn't get any coffee or drinks so I can't speak to that. The sandwich seemed a bit pricey for what it was but it's Bay Area pricing is what everyone tells me. I do like the San Francisco location in Mission Bay a lot better just due to preparedness however the Berkeley location is pretty good as well they just need a little instruction as far as the preference for the chai tea that I order as is with the açaí bowl but aside from that I really don't have any complaints. I think their bowls are quality for sure and I like that the açai is truly frozen/chilled and not soft and I like that they take direction well with preparing my chai tea drink because I'm very particular about that and this is my weekend spot after a very intense plyometrics workout so I don't have any complaints as long as they continue to listen to my specifics in making my drink: extra hot, no foam, oat milk instead of the other milk they typically would use, and extra chai. read more

We ordered the Crunchy Bowl, Tahini Squash Bowl, and the Levantine Sandwich. The Crunchy Bowl had what felt like undercooked "crunchy rice" and the Levantine Sandwich had rubbery chicken. I got a stomach ache later in the day which I can only attribute to the food we had here since that was the only thing I ate. Disappointed since I love the location on Steiner Street.
