Love this place! It's near my work so if I'm craving something a little on the healthier side, this is a great option. I usually get the Tahini squash bowl because it's so tasty. Everything in the bowl goes so well together and their sauce is amazing. Sometimes I do wish they would put a little less sauce or have it on the side tho just because it sometimes is too much. But that's my preference. Overall, the dish is great. I especially love all the colors of all the veggies in the bowl. I also have tried their sandwiches, both the chicken and beef. They were tasty! The chicken was not overcooked. Their kombucha is yummy also. I like how they serve their drinks depending on what you order. With cold drinks, they give you a glass of ice and you pour the drink yourself. I tried the egg nog latte today and it was a holiday in my mouth. I wws excited to see a Cafe Réveille pop up in the East Bay but compared to my experience at the Mission Bay location, I'm a little let down. The space here is cramped and unless you catch them here at a downtime, not conducive to having a conversation with the space and the level of noise because of how tight it is here. Food here was ok. I can tell they try to keep the menu similar to each location so I ordered the breakfast bowl as that was the closest thing to the squash bowl in the Mission Bay location. Not v impressed with the bowl here. Beautifully plated for sure but it just fell flat. I also didn't know there would be this cilantro based sauce on my avocado otherwise I would have omitted that. Usually I'm ok with cilantro but the texture was wayyy to gritty. Next time, I think I'll stick to a sandwich! read more

Great-looking store with all kinds of good outdoor seating under a nice shade structure. But the coffee here just not my fav. And for that matter, maybe not most people's either, because it's just not got the crowds you'd sorta expect being right off 4th St and so close to SoulCycle and CorePower Yoga and good parking. Reveille is home of the light roast and fruity coffees. Even the espresso wind up tasting like a fruit cup. I wish they had some dark option, but no dice. read more

The inside is aesthetic, the outdoor seating area is aesthetic and looks like a cute explosion of pink, the plants, the simple design--this is my kinda vibe I usually get an iced oat milk latte or an iced matcha latte with oat milk. More and more places are starting to have Oatly as a milk alternative option, and I am lovinnn it! The latte has been nice and bold yet smooth every time I've gotten it, and the matcha is divine. I don't like to get my drinks sweetened anywhere, and upon first sip, I thought that this matcha was sweetened. But the sweet taste soon faded away, and I realized that it was just really good matcha (good matcha isn't bitter). This was one of the better matcha lattes I've had. TRY YOUR DRINK WITH OAT MILK!! It costs extra, but it has a smooth, subtly sweet flavor and a thickness that makes it resemble cow's milk They have food options (bowls, breakfast, quite a few different kinds of toast that look amaaazing, pastries, pudding/oatmeal types of things), different types of coffee and espresso drinks, and they even have kombucha on tap!! Bottom line: SUCH AN ADORABLE PLACE!! Stuff is kinda pricy here, but I guess that's what you can expect from a hipster vibin' cafe. They don't have wifi yet, but they've been saying that they will soon since they opened a few months ago. I was trying to connect to xfinity, but the signal was kinda weak. I visited Cafe Rev on a weekday during lunch. There was no line and plenty of seating was available. You order and pay up front which is nice and grab a number for your table. After a friend's recommendation, I ordered the squash bowl. The dish arrived quickly and looked vibrant and yummy. There wasn't as much squash as I imagined but the flavors of the entire plate worked great together. I was a big fan of the farro pasta addition. I would definitely get this dish again. I'm so glad they open a new location in Berkeley! It's great to visit on a good sunny day. Like at their other locations, the ambiance is open and crisp, and the cafe is full of light. Unfortunately, it feels a little cramped. I usually come by for brunch on a weekend or for a coffee when I need to go to the Apple Store. I usually get the Shakshuka and a matcha! The only drawback is that this particular location isn't too great for working. A lot of tables are a bit unstable/shaky, and there is no WiFi or xfinity hotspot. Besides, outside tables are on the smaller side, and there is often no way to hide from the sun. Not sure if there are any outlets either! Bottom line: 5 for food and 3 for the space. read more

If Yelp had an "Instragrammable" feature, Cafe Reveille would definitely check the box. Besides that, however, not much else to offer to offset the mediocre service and the high prices. I came around 11am on a Friday, and the place was about half full. Since it was a sunny day, most people were outside. Indoors, there are a few tables, a counter, and a communal table, accommodating about 30 people or so. You order at the counter and they bring the food to you. My cashier was kinda rude and I had to spend half a minute getting her attention. I ordered a small coffee ($4.25) which tasted awful. Incredibly acidic and seemed overbrewed. Perhaps I should have gotten one of their dishes? They looked good, so if I ever come back, I'll try one of those next. There's also no WiFi, so I had to use my hotspot for the hour I spent there. I've been drinking coffee for about 20 years and have been to a LOT of cafes, coffee shops and kiosks and have never had worse service than at Cafe Réveille. A friend and I stopped in here around 2:30 for an afternoon cappuccino and iced americano after lunch yesterday, and my initial impression of the cafe itself was alright. It has outdoor seating and high ceilings and well placed plants and decor, not a terrible ambiance. But as I walked up to the counter with my friend, neither one of us were acknowledged by the two employees that were working. We stood there waiting patiently and hopefully as thirsty customers do while the employees talked to each other and one of them made drinks at the machine, and after several minutes, one of them finally came to the register. At this point I wasn't even bothered, but it was how we were treated while ordering and thereafter that gives this place one star. The young woman taking our order just stood there at the register, not looking at me or my friend, stared at the register with her finger at the ready and simply raised her eyebrows while looking down in what appeared to be annoyance as she presumably waited for us to speak. We were a little confused and surprised by the lack of greeting, lack of acknowledgment, lack of any sort of eye contact and the obvious resentment that we were even there. The entire transaction proceeded this way, with the employee not looking at us, giving one word responses, and appearing to take some kind of issue with our presence. I don't recall ever having had worse customer service. I actually started to feel apologetic for whatever problems my existence was causing this employee. We managed to order our drinks and eventually got them, but with the way we were treated, I legitimately wondered if they were the types to spit in our drinks. With SO MANY other coffee shops and cafes to choose from, I would never even consider or recommend Cafe Réveille as an option again. With average coffee and bottom tier custom service, I STILL have a bad taste in my mouth. read more

During a visit back home, the kids and I needed a place for breakfast close to our hotel, but we didn't want traditional breakfast food. We happened to find this place from the road as we crossed over the freeway and headed into Berkeley. It's a little tricky to get to based on the location we were coming from and the road rules but we figured it our fairly quickly. There is ample parking and plenty of other stores nearby if you want to window shop after your yummy meal. This cafe was bright and modern, yet really comfortable. The staff were nice but not overly intrusive. The menu isn't large but there are enough options to satisfy most palettes. The day was sunny and warm and there was plenty of outdoor seating to soak up the sun, but we chose to eat inside. My kids selected the acai bowl with fresh fruit and granola. The portion was large and the fruit was really fresh and perfectly ripe. I happily chose the BBAA sandwich. It consisted of Bacon, Beets, Avocado and Arugula. It was absolutely decadent and plentiful. If we weren't traveling home by plane that day, I would have saved half to eat the following day, it was the big and filling. But alas, I wasn't going to waste any morsel of it, so I journeyed on. I also had my morning cup of coffee, iced. The serving was enough to have two cups yet I could have savoured more. The meal was artfully presented and the freshness of the food showed the passion the chefs have in their creations. This is a lovely place to meet a friend and enjoyed healthy eating. I usually love some meat on my salad, but this one didn't really require any as the roasted squash along with the tahini sauce made it pretty flavorful! I asked for some extra tahini on the side as well. The cafe itself looks pretty modern, and I love their outdoor seating.. esp cause it was sunny! I tried my bf's burger... unfortunately pretty dry.. and the pickles weren't crunchy or flavorful.. they seemed kinda old tbh. Tried this place for lunch and thought it was a great addition to 4th street. We ordered: Crunchy bowl - So many crunchies! Maybe too much!! Sesame seeds, peanuts and broken rice! I liked the savory dressing which was mixed into the kale and combined well with the butternut squash but I wished that it was incorporated in the mushrooms (which were flavorless). Next time I will ask for more dressing and dress the salad myself! Tahini Squash bowl - this bowl was creamier (due to the tahini), sweeter than the Crunchy bowl and I think would've benefited from a few crunchies. I also couldn't taste any chili oil which would've helped give the salad more depth. My husband preferred this salad so it really comes down to personal taste as to what each person likes. This is a good little chain that serves really fresh food. Haven't tried everything but please go for the breakfast bowl and iced oatmilk lattes (add a little splash of simple syrup at the counter). I agree with the other reviews about the poor service here. This is a fast casual place where they request tip when you pay at the register. I am always mystified that places like this would expect the same tip as full wait service. But anyway, I pay it, mostly out of confusion. The woman at the register brings me my sandwich. As I have taken a bite, I realize I do not have a napkin. Holding my sandwich, I flag her down to request one and tells me it is self service and I need to get it myself. My hands are oily so I can't put on my mask to go inside to get it. I found this ridiculous and rude. So does this mean we don't need to tip because this place is "self serve"? I really enjoy this establishment for its drinks and it's food. However, at this location they have a weekend rule where "no wifi password" is provided on the weekend to prevent people from staying for too long. Am I wrong to feel that most people come to cafes and get a caffeinated drink in return for a few hours to work? If you come here during a weekday, you could probably use the wifi here on the weekends if needed. I just chose the wrong time and day to come. I will not return to this location to do any school/business work. Do come if you want a "quick" coffee with friends or happen to snag the password on the weekday for some wifi access. read more

We ordered two expresso drinks on a Saturday afternoon (they weren't busy + no one was in line). The drinks themselves, were very good. The staff behind the counter, not so much. Snarky would be the nicest description. The girl running the register was indifferent - when we asked where to find a menu, we were told it was on the OUTSIDE of the window - when we were INSIDE, at the register. "Um, ok. We'll go outside, but don't you have one behind the counter or on the wall?" The most unfortunate part of the whole experience was the 20-something barista, who took it upon herself to make both of our drinks with low-fat milk, when one was ordered as whole-milk. When I asked if it could be remade, as it was for my boyfriend who really wanted that type of milk, I was given the most ridiculous attitude/scoff and when she finished, she literally threw the remade drink on the counter as it had foam/milk dripping down the side.
