Cinnamon roll and coffee cake with almonds
    Tricia M.

Nice spot near 4th St. We stopped for a bite and I tried their cinnamon roll and iced matcha latte. My husband got the coffee cake with almonds and a cortado. Good picks - my cinnamon roll was almost like a croissant with layers of fluffy delicate yumminess. Matcha wasn't sweet and it had a nice flavor. Plenty of seating outside.

Come & have breakfast. Welcome home, and Berkeley. Bacon & eggs, sunny side up Recommend for any morning, especially Tuesday blues. Bring your book.

Morning coffee at Café Réveille. The coffee is decent, but the ambiance is always a favorite. I love how every location has its own unique vibe, always a beautiful spot to slow down and enjoy a good cup of coffee.

This is probably the cutest cafe in Berkeley!! The interior is so chic, with beautiful natural light and an outdoor seating area. I ordered an iced coffee and wasn't a huge fan but their acai bowl always hits. The service is decent, the staff is usually warm and friendly.

Nice people. Slow service. Chocolate croissant tasted stale. The flat white was weak in flavor. Did I mention they are very slow. On the positive they have a nice outdoor space for the extra long wait.

The place was filled with homeless people, it was unsanitary. A homeless guy literally came and sat on our table while we were still eating and the workers just sat and did nothing. We had kids with us, so we asked them please escort the homeless person out but they refused to help. The homesless guy ate our food for about good 10 min, i told them at least replace the food he touched, the workers were so rude and unhelpful, they basically said it was our fault we let him sit down. Unprofessional and unsanitary. Do no recommend this place or at least the Berkeley location.

A solid brunch option! Standard prices. It's pretty crowded on a weekend brunch time. When I went a couple weekends ago, all seating inside was basically taken and most seats outside as well. There's a park nearby if you only have small transportable items. I love the vanilla pastry but they ran out by the time I swooped by. The falafel is so crunchy but soft on the inside (laudatory). I loved the latte art on my matcha latte.

Located around the corner from the Main Street. Cafe Reveille was busy not thankfully not packed on Memorial Day. My iced coffee was good but notjing notable. They have a cart with simple syrup and sugar which was helpful to adjust the sweetness. The trash in the bathroom was overflowing, so it could do with a bit more attention.

I recently checked out this café and left with mixed feelings. Café Atmosphere: This spot is constantly buzzing with activity, with lines out the door and an impressive array of modern vegan and gluten-free options. The energy is definitely lively--great for those who thrive on movement and productivity. Yet, there's a cozy, nurturing vibe in the comfortable seating, even though you're expected to bus and clean your own table. The self-serve system for utensils and water might feel a bit too hands-off for those craving a more attentive touch. I also noticed that the staff appeared somewhat stressed rather than happy, based on their facial expressions and dimmed down attitude. Cleanliness & Amenities: The restrooms could use a bit more care; they were a bit messy and needed a check for trash removal. However, overall, they're compact, tidy, and get the job done--practical, yet in need of that extra nurturing detail. On a positive note, the café is very dog-friendly, perfect for those who appreciate a little extra warmth and companionship. Outdoor Area: Patio doors opened and left opened, embracing an open-air flow concept. However, a few flies managed to wander in, slightly marring an otherwise inviting setting. With plenty of parking available and a friendly atmosphere, it's a minor hiccup in an otherwise energetic environment. There is a walkway in the patio area with Wisteria plants, which adds to the patio's atmosphere and makes it a great spot for photos. Food Highlights: * Shakshuka: Strong sun-dried tomato flavor, with a sharp acidity that may not suit all tastes. * Grilled Chicken Sandwich: Slightly over-charred but very moist. Served with potato chips, which added a nice crunch. Matcha Lattes: I ordered both an iced and a hot matcha latte, asking for one with honey and one without. Both came out sweet, which felt like a miscommunication on my part. While not overly sugary, the texture was a bit grainy instead of offering the silky smooth experience I'd hoped for. Hours of Operation: Monday-Sunday: 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM Overall, the café offers a wide range of options in a lively setting, though there are areas that could be improved for a more consistent experience but will come back for a second opinion.

This was the burrito once I opened it up, there's not even a lot of beans. not evenly portioned at all

I ordered a breakfast burrito with only avocado, black beans, & potatoes, when I received my burrito there was no hint of avocado visible in it. They told me it was in there. Most burritos when sliced open you can see all the ingredients on the surface once open but I did not see any green whatsoever. After opening the burrito and getting to the bottom, there was one HALF slice of avocado in the ENTIRE burrito. The eggs were greasy too and the potatoes had zero seasoning. For 15 dollars that's pretty disappointing. I feel like this place has a good vibe and the workers seem nice but it's too pricey and the food was also bland too. I think there are better cafes in the Bay that offer better food for the same price or cheaper.

Cafe Réveille is such an aesthetically pleasing cafe. They offer an amazing selection of coffee drinks, as well as small food items! Their acai bowl was very filling and the matcha was perfect. Service was fast. My friend and I decided to come here for a cute brunch date and when I tell you this place has so many photo ops... the film photos I took explain it all. Come here photo ready! :)

Idk if it was our timing or order, but the matcha was slightly watery and did not have a strong flavor. Additionally, my ube tasted like straight coconut than ube to the point where my husband was like yo they dyed some coconut foam purple LOL I highly doubt that was the case, but point made. The interior is fine, small but tables and wifi if you want to get some work done or study. I've visited elaichi twice since in the area already and I plan on going back again. My first visit was on a Monday morning with a friend. I ordered the Banana Chai Einspanner (chai with banana sea salt cold foam) with oat milk and the Aloo Tiki Paratha Roll (potato fritter with cilantro chutney, red onion and garlic yogurt). My friend ordered a hot latte and the Paratha Quiche (tomato, red onion, Serrano and cilantro). We also shared a piece of Pistachio Cake. The Banana Chai Einspanner is simply the best drink I have ever had in my entire life. I am truly not kidding. It is so decadent, smooth, spicy, fresh. This is the best drink to grace this plant. My friend was really happy with her latte as well. I wouldn't say it strikes the "classic chai" chord, as this is incredibly sweet, so if you're looking for that, I would select a more basic option on the menu. It's also worth noting, the Banana Chai is a seasonal option for the summer. As for the food, everything was delicious. The Pistachio Cake was moist and had such great flavor. The crusts on both of our savory dishes were so flaky! I visited again on a Tuesday morning (yes the next day) and ordered the Banana Chai Einspanner once again and the quiche. Both were as delicious as the first time around. And the product isn't it all. The staff at elaichi are incredibly friendly. Even when the shop was busy on the Monday morning, we were taken care of with respect and care. I can tell the staff also have good relationships with those in the community. I've tried the Uji matcha latte ($6.95) and genmaicha latte ($6.75). The Uji matcha latte was grassy, but still smooth and strong. I think I would've liked just a little more depth and richness, but it's still a drink I'd happily order again. I also tried the genmaicha latte, which was less sweet than the Uji matcha. I really liked how the toasted, nutty flavor of the genmaicha balanced the sweetness, though I thought it slightly overpowered the matcha. You can really taste the quality and care that goes into their drinks. I definitely want to try their black sesame matcha next! Hello, my fellow café junkies…read more I LOVE little cafés. I will happily spend my hard-earned money on an overpriced chai latte while sitting somewhere cute pretending I have my life together. So when I say I'm definitely not coming back here, just know it pains my café-loving heart. First, let me give credit where credit is due: the atmosphere is GREAT. Super cute. Super cool. Great little hidden spot. The service, however? SucKs--with a capital K. ‍ Here's how my first--and probably last--visit went: 1. We ordered THREE chai lattes: two hot chai lattes and one iced chai latte with oat milk. Pretty straightforward. Nobody was ordering a 14-step potion from Hogwarts. 2. We received only two drinks. So, channeling my inner Karen from Boyle Heights, I politely went back and said, "Excuse me, we ordered THREE chai lattes." 3. They told me they hadn't charged me for the third drink. Okay! No problem. I work my ass off. I don't mind spending money. Charge me, hermana. Let's get this chai flowing. 4. I took a sip of my supposedly hot chai latte and immediately my taste buds sounded the emergency alarm: NOPE. THAT'S COFFEE. 5. I looked at my husband suspiciously and asked, "Is yours chai or coffee?" He took his first sip and said, "This is coffee." At this point, the chai lattes had apparently entered the Witness Protection Program because nobody could find them. 6. I went back. To their credit, they were perfectly willing to remake the drinks. Thank you! And when we finally received the two hot chai lattes, they were actually GOOD. Crisis temporarily averted. 7. THEN I looked over at my friend holding the supposedly iced chai latte with oat milk and thought, Wait a minute... "Taste yours." He takes a sip. "This is coffee." GIRL. THREE chai lattes ordered. THREE chai lattes misunderstood. At that point, I wasn't ordering beverages anymore. I was participating in a listening-comprehension assessment. ‍ The person taking our order seemed rushed, distracted, and all over the place. And listen--mistakes happen. I teach for a living. I have patience. But when every single drink in one order is wrong, we've moved beyond "oops" and entered performance art. No manchen--venimos a gastar, no a pendejear. ‍ So here's my recommendation: If you're particular about actually receiving the beverage you ordered, you may want to try another café. Or, if this place has an app, USE THE APP. Let technology translate "chai latte" into "chai latte" because apparently the spoken version is giving everybody trouble. Better yet, buy your drinks somewhere else and bring them here. Then you can enjoy the cute atmosphere without participating in Chai Latte Roulette: Will It Be Chai? Will It Be Coffee? Nobody Knows! The place is called Hidden Café, and after today's experience... I can see why it's hidden. Cute environment? Absolutely. Would I trust them with another three-chai-latte mission? Esta mamona la cosa. Hard pass. ‍ Come for the atmosphere. Bring your own drink. And may the odds of receiving what you ordered be ever in your favor. Signed, A recovering Chicana Karen from Boyle Heights who just wanted her damn chai.

Good to know: Jaffa cakes are only available on the weekend Parking: Some of the streets nearby are resident-only parking so make sure to double check!

That, however, shouldn't detract from the personalized experience you'd likely receive with how small the coffee bar is. If you're expecting something more permanent this coffee shop is more like a temporary coffee cart that has roots in the back corner of this gift shop On the whole this place despite the hidden location has folks very much eager to bring specialty coffee to anybody interested. They have a large selection of relatively high end coffee in the likes of Geisha from Panama and Ethiopian coffees. Additionally, they're the only place I've ever seen across the US that is showcasing any coffee grown in China which is nice to see as that allows more exploration into how the terroir affects the taste of coffee For my first time here I came with a small group of coffee enthusiasts so we tried a selection of their Alo Main Station (notes of Sweet Orange, Bergamont, and Peach Oolong Tea), Finca Santa Maria (notes of Cherry, Mango, and Berry Jam), and Lerida Loma Washed (notes of White Floral, Mandarin Orange, and Longan) Each cup was uniquely different from each other but arguably the most enjoyed was their cheapest option in the Alo Main Station at $9. Each cup seemed completely different and may seem pretentious to say but they did have sweeter notes that you'd be very unlikely to taste from your well known coffee chains. This place definitely caters to the coffee enthusiasts in a way where even my group wasn't quite near the level of but it had a great atmosphere, nice outdoor seating, and staff who were very passionate about their craft If anything, I would probably come back as they do elevate coffee for those who are unaware of coffee coming from China but that coffee doesn't need to taste bitter, burnt, or chocolatey. The cups here were more like tasting a mellowed fruit juice but it just happens to be coffee. That said, unless you are eager to try specialty coffee this place may seem overpriced as their pour overs are between $9 - $25 which heavily differs from most other coffee shops. Having Masterpiece provide a glimpse of the specialty coffee scene within the Bay Area is still a welcome blessing as it has a similar vibe to specialty coffee shops you'd experience in Asia

Since my husband was doing an iced Shiro, I went with a hot version of the Kuro. We both got whole milk rather than oat milk. While I loved both options the Kuro was definitely my favorite and did not disappoint. There's some seating options outside to enjoy your coffee and tons of vintage items to browse through inside while you wait for your coffee.
