Charming little Cafe with a large menu at affordable prices. It may not look like much on the outside but when you walk in you are greater with a clean establishment fresh chips and salsa and friendly smiling staff. They have Mexican and American food and breakfast all day. I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to come here but if you are in the area and looking for food it's a great pit stop. read more

They have several great American home styles breakfasts. They have good service as well. I'm not a fan of heavy mole plates so I can take it or leave it for their Mexican food. They also need to learn how to batter and fry the chili rellano. I thought I was eating an omelet with pablano and cheese. Oh my gosh! I love small town restaurants. The people actually give a crap about you and your meal. Small town restaurants usually means best food, best service, biggest smile, and a full belly after a wonderful meal! A simple clean Cafe. Polite servers, clean bathrooms. The BEST strawberry crepes! Great omelets. A local favorite. We drive 30 miles from Brownwood and it is totally worth it! They are quite popular at obvious times, we went around 9:30 am and the rush was over. You can find their menu easily the food is fresh made so it takes a minute! Classic small town cafe done RIGHT. Friendly, fast service, old Waylon & Willie, George Strait and Merle Haggard videos on the tv, and chicken fry that put Mary's in Strawn to shame. (Yes, I've also had the highly praised CFS at Jean's in Cross Plains.) This CFS was just knocked-it-outta-the-park amazing; the crust was great & crunchy & crispy but the meat was the attention-getter. It was so tender but not flimsy or mushy, and incredibly well-seasoned. Did you see my eggs? Go look and just try to tell me those aren't the most beautiful over-medium you've ever seen. I'll wait while you drool over those perfect hash browns, too. (Better-half's scrambled even looked awesome.) I've had almost every "best" CFS in the state, and this is awfully damn close to the best I've ever had. I didn't even miss a mimosa option, come to think of it. If you find yourself close and don't get your CFS fix here, don't blame me, I tried! We were on our way to Lubbock when we stopped for lunch. This is a simple cafe, nothing fancy but the service was friendly and efficient. The menu has a good variety. We chose a fajita salad which was excellent. The greens were fresh and crispy. The fajitas were hot and well seasoned. It also had fajita veggies. Yum stopped at this perfect restaurant at the half way point on a trip. They have a lot to choose from here so no matter what your craving they have it. Their chili queso was good, and I had a mixed plate with enchiladas tamales and a taco. Very cheap price and a lot of food. Didn't leave hungry that's for sure. read more

Where's the cheese? Their cheese enchiladas were full of cheese back when I live here and I ate there weekly. I came in for a visit with my sister. She placed an order to go. My enchiladas tasted like corn tortilla because of so little cheese. My sister got a fajita salad and when asked what dressing, she said sour cream. Then they charged her for the sour cream. They didn't say anything about it not being a dressing or being charged extra for it. Couldn't add a pic to my review but I added a pic in the group of pics. read more

I came to this joint on a whim when I saw how busy it was. I was greeted, took my seat, and then was brought chips/salsa immediately. Staff was attentive and nice. I got the chiles rellenos which were delicious. I thought the beans that were a part of the platter were a bit under-salted but other than that, everything was on point. We were driving from San Angelo, back home to DFW. We stopped to eat dinner. I was excited to eat West Texas Mexican food. I'm originally from Midland. There was a sign on the door, No avocados. I ordered a plate with 2 enchiladas, beans rice. The beans were good, the rice was dry. The enchilada sauce bland, the tortillas were so full of preservatives... the enchilada's on a whole were pretty bad. We also ordered the Hunter steak, medium. It was so tough, the knife provided, could not saw through the gray piece of meat. Browning for a bit of color, would have been nice. I asked the owner?/Head waitress for a knife, to cut my enchiladas and she rolled her eyes and sighed. The Iced Tea tasted oily and had the flavor of oil. The waitress, never came back to our table, not even with the check. Aside from that, we are not big people, the booth was so tight, we could not turn around. The locals seemed to like it. We walked out and both said, that was the worst Mexican restaurant, Ever. I was so excited, typically little 'dives' like this one have amazing food. If you are driving through Cross Plains and see Mexico City Cafe, keep going. read more

Don't let the outside appearance of this little cafe fool you, this is the real deal. And the prices are unbelievable at this level of quality. You get all the tortilla chips and salsa you can eat no extra cost. I eat there every week, and have tried almost the whole menu, never disappointed. Everything is fresh, and well seasoned. All the enchaladas are wonderful, and if you like steak with a wonderful hot green sauce, order steak ranchero. The breakfast is also very good. read more

Great food and great service! They have packed buffet on Sundays that always changes with lots of variety... Last time I was there a few things on the buffet were roast/stew (meat, carrots, potatoes, onions), stuffed chilies, enchiladas, potatoes, soup, beans, and lots more!
