We were exploring a different part of the city in search of a new place for coffee and breakfast. That's when we spotted Cafe Rista. The large list of breakfast wraps and sandwiches was a pleasant surprise. I ordered the spicy breakfast wrap for $9.50 in 2025. It was freshly made to order and hot both in spices and temperature. I enjoyed it once it cooled down a little. My partner ordered the Italian breakfast sandwich which was also $9.50. It looked similar to what I ordered except for it being a sandwich and less spicy. She enjoyed her dish as well. We both had a large drip coffee. The coffee was served in a generous sized cup so we thoroughly enjoyed our drinks. Noise was not a factor here as it is in so many places now. The cafe seemed to be clean. There's several tables of various sizes so finding seating should not be a problem. Overall I was very pleased with our morning coffee and breakfast experience although, strangely, the fellow behind the counter seemed somewhat indifferent to our being there. Maybe he was just having a bad day. The prices are excellent for the quality of food and coffee so I know that we'll return here. read more

The food was good and reasonably priced. I ordered the lox bagel. The guy behind the counter nodded yes when I asked if he was the owner. I found him surly, but it was 10 am and maybe he's just not a morning person. He seemed to be more friendly toward a male who came in after me. The lox bagel came unconstructed. When I asked if I could move the chairs, he said he didn't care. The guy just doesn't seem to love his work. A couple hours later another staff member came in. I had already ordered my medium latte, which had arrived hot. She may have been friendlier- did not interact with her. PB mocha and pecan flan - need I say more? But Cafe Rista is so much more than a good cup of joe! They serve up my favourite - goat cheese and berry salad with an orange teragon dressing. Price is just right for a local cafe - $10 and under for sandwiches, $5 and under for a delicious latte! I'd literally like to try everything on the menu here! Black and white checkered floor with bright red accents and loads of natural light! The perfect place to get some sunshine and a hot cuppa on a cold winter's day! How do you improve? I have recently visited Cafe Rista on two occasions and have been pleasantly surprised by this small cafe's great coffee and food. The restaurant is located on the streetside back corner of a business building and is a treat for anyone who visits for a bite to eat. They have a simple menu with great specials to ignite your taste buds. You can either eat in or take out. The cafe is just simple - with tables & chairs, stools to sit by the windows and some seating tucked in the back. The service is excellent as you order at the counter, and will bring the food and beverages to you once ready. The service is friendly, and the food is to match. Great cafe with a very simple and casual atmosphere for a great healthy (or not!) Lunch! You can sit or takeout. We ordered the sandwich of the day, which was grilled chicken and Porto mushroom on ciabatta bread. Sandwich was delicious and generously filled! Popped in to this small little cafe for a sammich on a Saturday afternoon. Located underneath an office building and off the main it's not easy to spot but it is getting a reputation as a great little cafe in the area. I opted for the Tuna sammich with cheese on marble rye and it was delicious. The bread was perfectly toasted, crunchy while still being soft in the middle. Tuna filling was tasty, the tuna had capers mixed in which provided a delightful vinegary salty zing! I'll be back. read more

This cafe is a bit hidden, but considering there are not a lot of local coffee shops in the west end of Edmonton Cafe Rista is a gem. I came here for a late breakfast, and to get some work done. There's a good selection of breakfast bagel dishes, some paninis, soup. I wanted a bagel and lox, but they were out of lox, so I opted for a bagel sandwich with egg, turkey, cheese and salsa. It was good, and unlike many bagel sandwiches made with the yucky fake eggs from a cartoon, this stuff tasted like the real deal. I also got the peanut butter latte because it sounded so weird I just had to try it. I love peanut butter, and this was interesting. Not good, not bad. It's quite sweet, and there's a lot of peanut aftertaste. I liked it enough, but I think next time I'd order something else. There is a wide variety of drinks on the menu. On a late Saturday morning, this cafe wasn't busy at all. There's lot's of parking, and the cafe was bright. The man who was working (the owner perhaps) was quite nice. If I lived or worked anywhere remotely close to Cafe Rista, I'd probably be a regular patron. read more

Cafe Rista is a bright cafe tucked away in a building just off 142 Street that opened in September 2010. It's a charming little place, but if you blink, you may miss it. Inside, you'll see a black and white checkered floor, bright red tiled counter, and a smiling face, hard at work preparing for the rest of the day. You'll hear the soothing sounds of Italian music, as you sip your latte. The cafe is fairly steady in the morning, but I imagine it picks up around lunchtime. Breakfast is fairly simple. Bagels (white or whole wheat) with a generous helping of plain cream cheese. Add tomato or cucumber, or have it with egg, ham, and cheddar. Yogurt parfaits are also served. For lunch, the cafe serves a variety of paninis, sandwiches, salads, and more. The selection for lunch is probably the most diverse. As for beverages, they serve coffee, lattes, hot chocolate, and espresso. I've heard great things about their coffee, and I was quite happy with my latte. I've heard the hours aren't the best, but it's a great neighbourhood coffee shop, which I recommend checking out if you're in the Grovenor neighbourhood. read more

This place deserves a whole 5 stars for all the right reasons: - Enter cozy neighbourhood cafe tucked away (if you don't know where you're going... or you're not using Yelp/Google Maps...you won't find it) - Add knowledgeable barista and two types of beans for the Americano choosing. We were there for a while, so I tried both kinds (large Americanos). The Danesi beans were better: stronger, robust flavour. The feature beans were subtle and the flavour got washed out in the larger volume cup. - Enjoy atmosphere for all kinds: business people, families, etc... everything goes/went! Was able to have a business meeting mid-morning while moms came and went with their small-ish bambinos. - Appreciate the change jingling in your pocket - absolutely affordable prices for the quality of coffee you receive! I wanted so badly to love this place because the people are super nice...unfortunately I can't give it 5 stars, but I did really really like the service. Went with the roast beef ($8.50) because I'm a sucker for pretzel buns. Toasty with cheese, a good amount of beef, lettuce and tomato - I was excited. Unfortunately, it was super salty and I struggled through it. I thought it was the bun, but that was soft and just the right amount of flavour when I tried it on its own. It was the beef that was very salty, so if they can lessen that, it'd be a decent sandwich. Also tried the Mars bar bread pudding, which, like the other desserts offered, is made in-house. On their advice, I warmed it up before eating it so it was gooey with melted chocolate. This had so much potential but it fell flat for me because it was dry and bland. Needed more egg and sugar mixed into the bread cubes and it'd have been great. If I come back, I'd try their soups which looked good and maybe the turkey club since I'm told it's made with real turkey and not the processed stuff. read more

Cute cafe just off Stoney Plain on a quiet corner. They serve made to order coffee and tea drinks, and best of all WINE AND BEER! They also serve food - salads, flatbreads, sandwiches which are prepared while you wait, and they have a good selection of desserts as well (currently blueberry lemon loaf, chocolate bunts cake, turtle brownies and a handful of other things). WiFi is free, service is great, coffee is hot, and it's not ever too crowded to find a seat. read more

I have something to say that was irking me for the most part of my morning. The barista, or server, whatever you wanted to call him was oddly unenthusiastic. It felt like he wasn't happy to help me, I just didn't get a very warm vibe from him. So, right off the bat, it wasn't a 5 star experience. It is a pretty cute place. They display local artwork, the seating area is mostly tables and chairs, but there are a few comfy looking seats. I would have sat in those seats if they weren't so close to the only other people in the cafe - it would have seemed like I was inviting myself into the conversation. I went all out and got the yogurt parfait, a whole wheat bagel with cream cheese and a soy latte. The latte was okay. It kind of reminded me of Starbucks to be honest. The yogurt parfait was excellent - crunchy granola, yogurt, fresh blueberries, sliced bananas, and honey - and he put everything together on a cute plate (please see photo). This place also offers a decent selection of sandwiches and paninis. Overall, I was expecting better. I was especially put off when I was asking for lunch suggestions in the area and he just kind of gave me closed ended responses. My mom, sister and I stopped in here for lunch during a day of wedding dress shopping and sat outside on their little patio. We each ordered different sandwiches and a glass of wine, all of which was delicious and so flavorful. My sister went back to order us some coffee and was asked by staff if we were celebrating something on account of the wine, she explained that I had recently got engaged and that we were out shopping for dresses. The next thing we knew we were being served the most amazing piece of turtle(?) pie. Service was above and beyond and food, wine and coffee was all fantastic. I have been getting coffee from Cafe Rista since their earliest days, but never had, or took, the opportunity to try the food offerings. That changed a little while back and I was sooo taken with the Italian sandwich that I have not been able to break away from it to try some of the other sandwiches. I did however try the soup yesterday, the Broccoli Cheddar, as a take away and as soon as I lifted the lid I was hit with the overwhelming scent of first, the broccoli and then the ample cheddar in the mix. It tasted every bit as good as it smelled! Now to take on the challenge to get further down that sandwich list and see what else will blow me away! -almost forgot to mention the stellar service! Amazing place, sadly haven't actually tried any of the food or drink but the reason I'm giving them a good review is because of the amazing service. My client who is in a wheelchair had to wait 45 minutes for a wheelchair-accessible taxi to come pick him up and even after closing, the guy working insisted we stay in and not wait out on the street. I thought that was very nice of him to say and offer us a warm place until pick up. Even asking if we have any troubles that he could help. read more

I'm so thrilled to have found this neat little out of the way cafe! I was going for lunch with a friend and it's in her neighbourhood, so she had suggested. I had never been, so I was looking forward to something new to Yelp about! Once you find it, you wonder how you haven't been here before! Because it's not along a train route, I appreciate the big parking lot and 3 hour parking. The cafe is open all day for coffees and hanging out, but we ordered from the lunch menu. Karen's quesadilla smelled and looked heavenly, but my silly low-carb thing wouldn't allow for that. Still, I loved my spinach and goat cheese salad! A very tasty and filling lunch dish, for the right price, too! The staff were very nice, and all of the patrons here just seemed, well, happy! I've heard rumours of a peanut butter mocha. Lovely coffee and sandwich shop that makes wonderful variations on classis sandwiches. Love the range of different breads they use, particularly the pretzel roll. The star is the Reuben, which is the best in city with the recent closing of Col Mustard's. Lots of off-street parking too. read more

Very lovely little cafe in the west end, almost hidden from view. I stopped in here for a coffee during a recent trip to the medical clinic in the building and found the coffee rather average. However, I was impressed with the extensive menu of sandwiches and flat breads, as well as the wonderful reviews here on Yelp. I want to go back to try some food and perhaps one of the expresso drinks. We definitely need as many locally owned and operated coffee shops as the city can handle. read more

Hubby and I popped here about 1pm. We both had a Rueben sandwich. They were great and very filling. He had a can of pop and I got a coffee, their coffee is excellent. The people behind the counter were super nice. I took a desert to go as I had no room for it and it was looking irresistible. That was very good too. The chef, Chris, is a nice guy. This place is family friendly, clean, and uses whole foods in the dishes. I love the beef on a pretzel bun with blue cheese and carmelized onions. Amazing muffins; go for the mixed berry. Caesar salad with chicken is great, awesome bacon flavour. Coffee is delicious, and prices are fair. Can be busy at lunch, so call your order in ahead of time. Not busy at all at 4pm; it's a good time to bring the kids in for a treat. read more

One of the men where very pushy to buy something when I was waiting for my aunt to show up and gave very dirty eye contact. Also the floor was dirty and some chairs I can see little bits of food and water and my coffee was not very good. Do your self a favour don't come here. I just recently moved into the Grovenor neighborhood and was excited to know that a cafe was nearby walking distance. At first glance, I was impressed with the selection of menu items that were written on their wall. I decided to have a chicken, brie, apple, cranberry panini. When I went to order, I was greeted by a man who seems to care less about making an impression or even keeping business. I asked how long the cafe has been open and he said 7 years. I told him that I just moved around the corner and he got straight to the point "what would you like?" I was a bit taken back by his harshness. There was no one else in the cafe other than me at that moment (it was Remembrance Day). I got my order in and was a little disappointed that the panini looked less than impressive (so much so that I couldn't even be bothered to take a photo). My friend met me there and she ordered a glass of white wine for herself and me. It was pretty much the company and wine that made the visit there even worth while. Too bad! I have been to Rista about 10 times and it is always good, Sometimes you have to wait awhile, as there is usually only 1 guy working and he is busy. A great unique, local cafe worth a visit. Coffee drink menu is good, with some unique local flavours, and the lunches are always decent. read more
