The restaurant is small, quaint, and cozy, run by a husband-and-wife team who split their time between Italy and Somerville. The authenticity and care really come through in both the food and the experience. We started with the bruschetta, and it was hands down the best bruschetta we've ever had - we still think about it. I ordered the Paccheri alla Norma, a fried eggplant pasta in a rich tomato sauce, and Matt had the rigatoni al ragù. Both were easily some of the best pasta dishes we've ever had. The service was wonderful, the decor was adorable, and we're honestly still dreaming about that meal. Perfect for couples or small family dinners. The best Italian restaurant in Somerville, hands down.

I'll say that, while this was very tasty, it was my least favorite part of the meal. We had bruschetta, bread with olive oil, cold antipasti, the Filippo-invented arugula fritters, a small order of the paccheri alla francescana, then our entree. If that wasn't enough, we had delicious millefoglie for dessert. While this was plenty of food, it wasn't too heavy and I didn't leave feeling overfull. Service was phenomenal, from the waitstaff to Filippo coming out to explain the menu with his wife chiming in, to him coming out and playing piano. Everyone in the group loved it and most said it was the best dinner we've had as a group (which is saying something since we're usually eating group dinners together at least 15 to 20 times a year). I would absolutely recommend this spot in a heartbeat.

Parking is in the back in the ShopRite lot, or you can try to park on the street. Somerville has become quite a foodie town, and street parking can be difficult to find. We had a party of five and were seated promptly at a round table, which was nice. We could all chat and see each other. Our server was friendly and professional and answered all our questions about the food. The meals were entree-sized instead of lunch-sized. Alfonso's doesn't allow lunch portions on Sundays. To start, we were given a family-style salad. It was mediocre at best. Boring. Mostly iceberg lettuce, no tomatoes, red onion on top, carrots, and cucumber. The complimentary bread was good, but it wasn't Italian. We were given another basket after we finished the first one. The butter was in those little plastic containers. Nothing fancy. Our entrees were: Dinner Giambotta (mild): Italian sausage, peppers, onions, potatoes, garlic, white balsamic parmesan sauce. Shrimp and Scallop Scampi Scallops & Shrimp Al Limone: Imported Roman artichoke hearts, roasted peppers, and green olives in a lemon butter white wine sauce. Cheese Tortellini Al Forno: Rose sauce, parmesan, fresh mozzarella. Eggplant Rollatini. My daughter had a Mediterranean Mule, which consisted of Figenza fig vodka, ginger beer, & lime juice. She enjoyed it! We all enjoyed our fairly large entrees, and most of us took some home. I would recommend Alfonso's. I've been here before and enjoyed it as well.

The service is quick too, I felt like our food came out quickly for the size of our group. One thing to note is that this restaurant is BYOB. The food - it was okay. The eggplant rolatini was fine, although I think the eggplant was sliced a little thick for the dish. The lobster ravioli sauce was good, but the ravioli itself was extremely thick (the pasta part). It felt like more ravioli than lobster. I was really excited about the tri color pizza, it sounds so yummy with all the sauces! I was disappointed to see that the stripes however are all of the 3 sauces you get. So I felt it really lacked in sauce. What I think should have been done, is thick stripes of the sauce, cheese on top, and then the stripes for the plating. My sister got the pesto pizza and the also complained that there was a lack of sauce. Overall, I think this restaurant is okay. I'm not really sure I would be back as there are other pizza places in the area where I've had better pizza.

I mean, where else can you get Tri-Colored Pizza which was pesto, vodka sauce, and marinara with mozzarella all on the same slice? Plus, the crispy chicken on top? Chef's kiss. The crust was crispy AF, just the way my boyfriend and I like it. We really liked this pizza. Now, the riceballs... my boyfriend (a Jersey native, so he knows his stuff) thought they were just okay. Would we order them again? Probably not. But honestly, we're coming back for that pizza. Their pizza flavors and that perfect crispiness of the crust have us hooked. We definitely want to come back to try their appetizers and salads as well.
