Veal Chop
Carl H.

I'm disappointed in myself for driving past this restaurant several times and not realizing what I was missing. You enter a modest, warm and inviting space and you are greeted by their professional and friendly staff. They have a specialty cocktail menu with amazing choices that you just don't see in your local spots. And they do the classics perfectly, the Espresso Martini was silky, creamy and full of flavor. The service and the pacing of the evening was perfect. The food was incredible. I ordered the Veal Chop special, my wife ordered the Chicken Giordano, our friends ordered the Steak Special and the Chicken Special with Crab Meat. Everything was presented beautifully and tasted even better than it looked. Desserts were also amazing. The Tiramisu was perfectly moist and not soggy. We split the chocolate hazelnut cake and it was so tempting that it lost a limb before I got to take a photo. Definitely a must try. Even though it's a smaller space, we never felt rushed, as if they wanted to turn the table. The staff and owners were extremely inviting, they thanked us repeatedly and invited us back. The warmer weather is almost upon us and they have a beautiful outdoor area for dining al fresco. Can't wait to try it. I know one thing for sure, the next time I pass this place I'll either be pulling into the parking lot or calling to make a future reservation. Absolutely fantastic.

A night of misses on the restaurants I wanted to go to but this was a restaurant I've driven by on my way to another. After circling back and notice the full parking lot I just pulled in to give them a try. Very old school Italian restaurant, with multiple waiters on the floor. Started with the Caesar's salad and then the veal chop parmigiana, linguine with red clam sauce. The dinner was really good and the servers were very attentive. Definitely recommend this restaurant.

This was honestly beyond a disappointment. New Jersey Italian...I highly recommend going elsewhere. From the start, the experience was terrible. We come in for our 7pm reservation, and the place is MOBBED. We look around and there is no table for six even remotely ready to turn over. Awkwardly, we watched the servers have to move a couple to another table in order for us to sit down, ten minutes later. For the food, again a disappointment. The Mozzarella en Carozza came out with stiff/cold mozzarella. The Caesar salad was a disgrace with brown lettuce and bagged croutons (the dressing was quite good). The chicken parmigiana was way too thin, causing the cutlet to be overly dry and there wasn't enough sauce to help. The seared tuna special was requested as rare which came out medium rare/medium, making it dry and chewy. The chicken Alexandra with prosciutto was beyond salty and chewy like jerky. To round it out, the service was not great. From the table debacle at the start, we were never asked after the start of the meal if we wanted another drink and after we received our meals, never asked how it was. Truly disappointing meal and service. There are a number of better Italian restaurants we'll go to in the future.

Vitello Lyndsey

This was a traditional Italian location with Italian murals and décor throughout the establishment. There was a very small bar in the back as well. There appeared to a large outside seating area on the side of the building too. The menu was somewhat limited, but there was a variety in the choosing as well as specials. The service was appreciated, and the food came out in a timely matter. They start the meal off with a loaf of bread and an oil with pesto flavor. There was a good balance of the pesto with the oil. For my entrée, I had the Vitello Lyndsey ($29). It was veal topped with sliced eggplant, ham, roasted pepper, and melted provolone in a vodka sauce. There was also a side of potatoes and string beans. My first impression of the dish was the amount of food present. There was not much at all. However, the taste made up for it. The veal was very tender, and the sauce was appetizing. The vodka sauce was creamy and went well with the veal and eggplant. I just wish there was a little more!! Will I go back? Probably.

The crew is amazing here. I can only eat here one weekend a year and they always welcome me like a friend who has been out of town and missed. Food is also amazing - that's why I come back every year. I think this is my 10th year visiting once a year. I understand the Cafe Emilia has been open 23 years this weekend. Pretty amazing. You should visit if you can.

This place has such fresh and delicious foods! I highly recommend the pasta dishes. The restaurant is easily reachable and truly gives a genuine feel of Italy. Have some of their wine and enjoy some free bread and olive oil! Service was quick and friendly and the outdoor dining set up felt very covid safe. Will definitely come back here!

The strip mall itself isn't anything special, but the surrounding area is beautiful , and once you're inside, the restaurant feels warm and inviting. The food is fantastic, and the variety on the menu is impressive. The chef clearly knows what they're doing because every single dish we tried was genuinely delicious. It's the kind of spot where you can't go wrong: date night, dinner with friends, or anything in between. We brought our own bottle and had a great time. Our waiter was super knowledgeable, friendly, and patient. The staff even joked around with me when I forgot my to‑go bag, and yes, I absolutely took it home because the food is that good. I also appreciate that they don't act like offering takeout is beneath them; even the takeout bag was nice. I honestly wish my meals were this good every night. I hope everyone who works here is paid well and enjoys what they do, because they're running the place exactly how a restaurant should be run. It feels like a true community staple somewhere that transports you a bit and makes the whole experience feel special. Lovely all around.

Luca's Ristorante is a hidden gem that proves you should never judge a restaurant by its parking lot. Not long after we were seated, we were greeted by Luca -- a Luca and not the Luca. Still he was warm, welcoming, and genuinely passionate about his restaurant, taking the time to walk us through the menu and checking in throughout the meal without ever hovering. Luca's has a partial liquor license, offering a modest wine selection but is otherwise being BYOB. As we were told with a smile, they're much more interested in what's ON your plate than what's IN your glass. We started with two excellent appetizers. The arancini, already a family favorite, were crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside, and disappeared from the table faster than anyone was willing to admit. The Polpette, Luca's signature meatballs with pine nuts and raisins, certainly earned the praise they've received from NJ.com as some of the best in the state. Even if raisins in meatballs sound unusual, trust the process. The restaurant proudly calls itself "A Taste of Ischia," the beautiful volcanic island in the Bay of Naples, and the seafood absolutely lives up to that promise. My squid ink pasta with octopus (the Polypus) was outstanding, with perfectly tender octopus and beautifully balanced flavors. The scallops were buttery, sweet, and cooked to perfection, while the Ischia -- loaded with mussels, clams, and calamari -- was every seafood lover's dream. The rest of the menu proved just as impressive. The Pappardelle, featuring burrata and a rich Bolognese sauce, was a huge hit, while the Romolo, a comforting combination of chicken, pasta, bacon, and sauce, was another winner that had no leftovers to speak of. If you somehow still have room after dinner, Luca's offers a nice assortment of gelato. But do yourself one favor: don't leave without ordering a cappuccino. Rich, foamy, and expertly made, it's the perfect finale to a memorable meal. If you find yourself in Somerset, just a few turns off Routes 287 or 1, make the stop. You'll be greeted by a wonderful staff, treated to outstanding food, and very likely leave wondering how a restaurant this good has been hiding in a strip mall all along.

Upon entering, each guest is warmly greeted by the host / waitress as family and seated. Each table is served house made bread before the meal. The special of the night, pork rolls stuffed with herbs and cheese was hearty and wonderfully cooked. The plate was delicious, but at around $40 it was a bit pricey for the portion. There was a birthday while our party was dining and the owner led the restaurant in singing a birthday song accompanied by piano and followed it up by playing some classic Italian songs afterwards. The service was wonderful and each guest was personally greeted and thanked upon leaving the restaurant. It's clear that the restaurant is well loved by locals and the owner. The restaurant is small, quaint, and cozy, run by a husband-and-wife team who split their time between Italy and Somerville. The authenticity and care really come through in both the food and the experience. We started with the bruschetta, and it was hands down the best bruschetta we've ever had - we still think about it. I ordered the Paccheri alla Norma, a fried eggplant pasta in a rich tomato sauce, and Matt had the rigatoni al ragù. Both were easily some of the best pasta dishes we've ever had. The service was wonderful, the decor was adorable, and we're honestly still dreaming about that meal. Perfect for couples or small family dinners. The best Italian restaurant in Somerville, hands down.

The eggplant rolatini was fine, although I think the eggplant was sliced a little thick for the dish. The lobster ravioli sauce was good, but the ravioli itself was extremely thick (the pasta part).
