I guess you have to go here for the experience but it is painfully average. The service is super fast because they have non stop waiters/waitresses that rotate tables. It is a tourist trap so it is a churn and burn type of spot. They serve you fast because they want to get you in and out and open your table back up. There was a rooftop you could eat on outside with a balcony and that would have been better. In general this was fine for a quick snack or desert but it was nothing special. Would spend my money at other local places if I went back.

After our Sound of Music tour, we were so happy to find Café Tomaselli right in the middle of St. Stephen's Square. This place is charming and filled with energy, and we found a balcony seat on the second floor -- perfect for people-watching! We had kombucha tea, passion fruit soda, and apple strudel, all light and refreshing. Service was friendly, though there's no AC, so it can get warm on hot days. Still, a great spot to recharge and soak in Salzburg's historic vibe.

Supposedly the oldest cafe in Austria but it's also a bit of a tourist trap. The menu offers various coffee drink and breakfast items at elevated prices. You'll need to muscle for your own table here especially when it's crowded which is always. The wait staff while efficient are not the most friendly. The quality of the food is just average.

This 300+ year coffee house is a nice detour for midday snacks. Some breakfast items but not much of a meal. They have many rooms. So if you don't see seats downstairs. Head upstairs. The staff are dressed in formal attire, but there are no requirements for you. The desserts are amazing. They also sport locally brewed beers.

Stopped by Tomaselli on a Sunday afternoon for a coffee after learning it was one of the more famous coffee houses in Austria. The service was good and the environment had a lot of character to it. The coffee was delicious and the whipped cream was thick and unique. Great spot!

This was one of my favorite places when I came to Salzburg back in 2015, and it's still good, just not as amazing as I remembered. Their hot chocolate is still elite, but their breakfast is kind of mediocre. Their desserts looked fantastic, so please try one for me! The service was fine, and the inside feels very old ice cream parlor.

Popular culture lace but was able to get in and find a seat. Service was good with fast response even though it was busy. Good selection and great deserts!

A historic cafe near Residenzplatz in Salzburg, it is rumored that this is the same place that Mozart and his family frequented. We showed up at 735, shortly after they opened and were promptly seated. Newspapers are available in German for people to read while enjoying a morning coffee. The pastries were not out yet and were still being prepared. We ordered two large coffees with cream, a cheese omelette with a croissant, and two sausages and a roll. The sausages where juicy and light and were served with fresh horseradish and mustard. The cheese omelette was incredibly cheesy and buttery and went well with the pastry. Dogs are allowed inside and you get a chance to see how the locals enjoy their mornings in this sleepy mountain town. Service was friendly and quick and our waiter was fairly attentive. It's definitely a place to go visit before embarking on any major tourist attraction in Salzburg.

Definitely worth a visit when you're in Salzburg. Service was friendly and fast. There's a great selection of coffee and recommend getting a cup of melange. We came here early morning for breakfast and was seated promptly. The interior is cozy with a traditional coffee house vibe. You'll see locals enjoying their coffee and reading the newspapers. They have a display case of their cakes and variety of sweets. Also love how they serve their coffees on the silver trays.

The oldest coffee house in Austria I'm told. Stopped in here for a late breakfast. This cafe was bustling and there was a modest wait to get a table. The venue is very elegant and upscale. We ordered a good number of dishes. Everything was good though not outstanding. I think overall it's a nice place to go for the ambiance and the experience, but the food is not spectacular. For example, the sausage was very hot dog-like in my opinion.

Light snack before exploring. We order coffee, wine, cake, and a croissant. Though to get a balcony or outside table during busy times.

Lemon mint soda drink with a chocolate ice cream drink

A very delightful place to sit in an outdoor cafe and people watch. Since the place has been open since 1705 I'd say they are doing OK. There seemed to be a surprisingly local crowd for a rather tourist area. The place is neat, clean and ever so high quality coffeehouse/cafe. Our waiter was very friendly and efficient and seemed to keep everything flowing quite well. We had a "Lobsters lemon and mint" drink and a tall glass of a chocolate ice cream drink, both very refreshing. It came with a side of water on a beautiful serving tray. They bring around a large covered tray of pastries should you decide to have some. We declined but it looked very tempting. A little bit pricey, but not outrageous, and a oh so wonderful place to hang out for awhile.

Enjoyed a full breakfast here on a recent trip to Salzburg. It was beyond delicious, and the service / atmosphere were fantastic.

Cafe Habakuk - The Strudel was divine!

First morning in Salzburg and we were looking for our first breakfast kind of like home. We walked…read morepast Habakuk and caught a glimpse of the Strudel in the window, and all thoughts of bacon and eggs were out the window! We walked in and were very warmly greeted, and sat right across from the glass cases that showcased their wares. Given two menus in German, we figured it out pretty quick. They had a NY breakfast and one below that outlined eggs, ham, cheese and bread, bingo, two orders of those please and water. Our utensils and napkins were brought on a white plate along with salt and pepper, as well as a silver plate holding our waters, which was a great touch. The interior is very classy, old school elegance, and the servers were the same, nicely dressed very polite and helpful. Our food arrived quickly, hot and abundant, not exactly bacon and eggs, but very good. We were not asked how we wanted our eggs cooked,, so what you see is what you get. My eggs were a little overcooked for my taste, but the lovely K got some yolk run. There was a very good amount of food for the price and it all worked well together. We had the chance to chat with our server who spoke very good English, as it seems most of the people we have come across in our two weeks on the Continent do. We had to go back the next afternoon to try the Strudel of course. We were recognized right away, and the place was quite a bit busier so we walked up the stairs and were sat in the main dining area. The Strudel was quite delicious, and once again abundant and swimming in warm custard, which I wasn't sure of, but man it was good. Also added a Stiegel beer which is brewed right here in Salzburg for over 500 years. Cafe Habakuk is a bit of a throwback to simpler times when good service and great food, at fair prices was the norm rather than the exception and we couldn't be happier. Our next trip back to Salzburg we will most certainly be back!

We decided to walk inside on a mission to try said apple strudel and were greeted by kind staff. We took a seat and had THE loveliest waiter. I got the apple strudel with custard, but you get the option of either whipped cream, custard, or icecream I believe. My friend got the ham & cheese sandwich with a side salad. Long story short, the apple strudel was DIVINE. The entire dessert just feels homey and hits all the right spots. The sandwich was really good too. The bread was quite buttery and crispy. The salad had thousand island dressing. So so good!
